Tour de Pologne - Stage 4
matt17br
The second long, flat stage awaits the peloton at the start in Tarnow. Looking at stage 2's result, where several types of sprinters fought for the win in the end, I might have to reassess the chances of sprinters such as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tvm.png Kip, who came really short and had a really good train to lead him out.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Soupe was perfect the last time and the same can be said for his team, while others such as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Manarelli, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/fnz.png Von Hoff or pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/esc.png Cimolai had to fight for their position alone. We'll see if history will repeat today or a different scenario will unfold, seeing how the terrain is as similar as it gets.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Pologne/4.png

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tcr.png Kasperkiewicz and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vdc.png Mihaylov are the only ones who have managed to actually break away before hitting the first sprint of the day, so it remains to be seen whether this is today's definitve break or others will join in.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Pologne/PCM0037.jpg

And in fact, the definitive break is formed 10 kms later, when pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Hassan, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tvm.png Bauhaus, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas.png Lampier, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lse.png Schwarmes and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/esc.png Van der Ploeg also get to the front.

Their maximum advantage is around 7'35" on the pack, and it is reached close to the 145 kms to go mark, but it slowly but steadily starts to get down by then. With 112 kms to go they then reach the second intermediate sprint of the day, which is then won by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas.png Lampier, followed by Van den Ploeg and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tvm.png Bauhaus.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Pologne/PCM0038.jpg

Same result regarding the first 2 positions in the last TV sprint of the day, too, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vdc.png Mihaylov claiming the 2 points of the 3rd place in that case.

With 78 kms to go, the 7 in the front still hold a 4 minutes edge on the main group.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Pologne/PCM0039.jpg

With 19 kilometres to go, the riders hit the only categorised climb of the day, ranked as a 3rd category - though I personally wouldn't even call that a climb and I bet the riders didn't notice the slope! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/esc.png Van der Ploeg and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas.png Lampier take respectively 6 and 4 points, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lse.png Schwarmes who grabs a 3rd place.

Their advantage on the pack has diminished heavily, and they're only 1 minute in front of the pack, that will have to push hard to catch them nevertheless. The sprinters teams are definitely doing a good job at the front!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Pologne/PCM0040.jpg

4 kms to go, the peloton is still 40 seconds behind but the break is getting weaker and the riders more and more tired.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tcr.png Kasperkiewicz, the most lucid of the men in the front, sees it as a chance to attack: it will be very hard to catch him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Pologne/PCM0041.jpg

1 km later, however, the situation changes as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tcr.png Kasperkiewicz' action isn't as strong as he would have liked and he gets caught by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vdc.png Mihaylov. Behind them, trains are getting built by the likes of Podium Ambition, Chiquita and Fox Sports further behind.

Sprinters such as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Soupe, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hpa.png Uugunbayar, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/frs.png Navardauskas, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tvm.png Kip, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Manarelli, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cdb.png Boonen, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/esc.png Cimolai, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Bole and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/fnz.png Von Hoff are the ones we should look out for today!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Pologne/PCM0042.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Hassan and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/esc.png Van der Ploeg are the last 2 riders from the original break to survive, but they eventually get caught with about 1500 metres left. Chiquita's train is going the strongest right now, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Matthews setting a great pace for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Manarelli, while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Ewan got caught in the traffic a bit and needs to recuperate some positions to get pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Soupe further in the front.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cdb.png Boonen, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/frs.png Navardauskas, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/elt.png Bouglas, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tvm.png Kip, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Bole and the likes are pretty much on their own and jumping from wheel to wheel.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Pologne/PCM0043.jpg

Several riders in contention when the leadouts are done with their job and the break leftovers are out of sight. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Ewan leaves pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Soupe in a perfect position, but maybe does so a tad too early, and some of the sprinters close to his wheel might take advantage of such a situation.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Manarelli on the other hand is in an even worse position as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Matthews totally screwed up his last metres and left it up to the Brazilian, who has pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/esc.png Cimolai following him, to make up some metres on the rest of his rivals.

Meanwhile, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/fnz.png Von Hoff still has pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/fnz.png Witmitz to help, while only pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Bole and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tvm.png Kip look able to rival the sprinters I listed before, since others are fading away.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Pologne/PCM0044.jpg

It appears to be something between pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Soupe, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tvm.png Kip and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Manarelli right now, when it comes to today's stage victory: the Dutchman is in the front but is not going as fast as the other two, while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Manarelli and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Soupe seem able to overtake him in the last metres.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Pologne/PCM0045.jpg

But it's pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Soupe who absolutely nails it yet again! Had you given 5 more metres to pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Manarelli he would have overtaken Podium Ambition's main sprinter for the race, but he has to be happy with a still very nice 2nd place. He'll likely be blaming his leadout!

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tvm.png Kip started his sprint too early and doesn't go further than a 3rd place for today, but still holds off pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/esc.png Cimolai and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/fnz.png Von Hoff, 5th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Pologne/PCM0046.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/iso.png Bole takes 7th, preceding pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cdb.png Boonen, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/frs.png Navardauskas, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/fnz.png Witmitz and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/elt.png Bouglas, who rounds out today's top 10.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Pologne/PCM0047.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Alaphilippe played an important role in today's Podium Ambition train and still finds the energies to sprint for 11th, in front of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nwb.png Trusov, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Yates, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nwb.png Abdallah and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/frs.png Barbin, 15th for the day.
