The TT is underway! One of the most crucial stages of this Tour de Suisse, today is perhaps not going to show us who will win the race, but at least tell us who should be counted out of the battle for the podium places. No one among the GC riders, besides pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Amador, is among the very top favourites for today: the best TTists here are the likes of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met_ukr.png Zmorka, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Durbridge, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif_gre.png Vlatos and many others. However, it wouldn’t be unexpected to see a relative outsider take this either, if you know how the MG often goes!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/6.png

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc_aus.png Olman sets a good time early on, finishing in 26'08", to overtake pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Burke – with 26'34" - and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bud_rom.png Nechita - 26'36" -, first and second before the Australian champion finished his time trial. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Bernaudeau a few positions after him is 12" short of the 1st place, and settles in 2nd for now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0081.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif_gre.png Vlatos is one of the first to start, among today's big favorites. It looks like he'll live up to the expectations based on his time at the first checkpoint: 10" faster than pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc_aus.png Olman, 13" faster than pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gre.png Dempster, who took off just a minute later than the Greek champion.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0082.jpg

We'll have to wait for the other favourites, but for now one thing is sure: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif_gre.png Vlatos is the first to stop the clock in a time below 26 minutes, 25'47" exactly, which means he's been 21 seconds faster than pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc_aus.png Olman. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Dillier, who was 3rd after the halfway point, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gre.png Dempster, with the same time as the Swiss, will partly confirm this.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0083.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gre.png Dempster is just 1 second too slow to occupy the 2nd place, that fellow Aussie pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc_aus.png Olman will keep.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0084.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Dillier on the other hand sets the same time as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc_aus.png Olman as it seems, and it's not sure yet whether he is 2nd or 3rd because of some problems with the timing.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0085.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met_ukr.png Zmorka, today's very top favourite also takes off, and he certainly does so quickly: the Ukrainian, with half time trial to ride, holds a 15 seconds advantage on pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif_gre.png Vlatos, that looked good to battle him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0086.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Viennet has also gotten past the halfway checkpoint, and he's looking very good for a podium: the French is holding a 2nd place, 11" behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met_ukr.png Zmorka and 4" ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif_gre.png Vlatos.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0087.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met_ukr.png Zmorka gains 5 more seconds on pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif_gre.png Vlatos to get the first place at the end of the race, too. His 25'26" will be really really tough to beat for everyone, and no one seems able to do so, so far. Before him, Jayco'z pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Li finished in 6th place, between pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gre.png Dempster and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif.png Bernaudeau.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0088.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Viennet on the other hand loses time from pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif_gre.png Vlatos and he has the same time as the Greek champion at the end of his ride.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0089.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Durbridge sets a surprisingly good time halfway through: he's 2nd, just 2 seconds slower than pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met_ukr.png Zmorka. Might he be the first one dethroning the Ukrainian?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0090.jpg

Right after him, it's pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Sütterlin who sets the expectations bar to a podium place: the German is 1" quicker than pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Viennet after 10 kms.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0091.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Durbridge finishes it off as 2nd in 25'36": not bad at all, considering how fast pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met_ukr.png Zmorka went.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0092.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Sütterlin is very close to the podium, but he's just 5th in the end, 21 seconds behind the lead, but still 1" off pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Viennet's and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tif_gre.png Vlatos' times. Danish NC Christensen after him finishes in 10th place, with a time of 26'16".

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0093.jpg

Another good time halfway through is set by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gre.png Howson, 3rd, 1 second quicker than pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Sütterlin.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0094.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kdd_nzl.png Sergent started just one second after him and he manages to be 3 seconds quicker than pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gre.png Howson. We'll see what the Oceanian two can do in 10 kms time.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0095.jpg

Not a bad time at all by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gre.png Howson, who manages to stay on the podium for now with a time of 25'44". But will he keep it with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kdd_nzl.png Sergent finishing his ride soon?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0096.jpg

He won't! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kdd_nzl.png Sergent is now 3rd, with a time 6 seconds quicker than pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gre.png Howson’s, but just 2 behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Durbridge. A few minutes later, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tsa.png Vorobev is also done with a time of 26'07": the same as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Dillier and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc_aus.png Olman.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0097.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vsa.png Kittel mildly disappoints so far, after so many favourites outdoing each other: halfway through the race, he's 8th, 17 seconds behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met_ukr.png Zmorka.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0098.jpg

The former German champion pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vsa.png Kittel keeps his 8th place, neither improving nor worsening his situation: he's 22 seconds behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met_ukr.png Zmorka, but just 1" behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Sütterlin, which will hurt frankly.

Several riders follow, and among them, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tsa_ita.png Malori is 9th at the end of his stage, 38" behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met_ukr.png Zmorka, but also 16" behind one position above his. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met.png Hepburn is 1" behind the only Italian in Tinkoff's team, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gre.png Sterobo, off to a great start, can't keep it up and finishes just outside the top 10. Lastly, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/rbc.png Kreuziger is just 1" slower than pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gre.png Dempster to momentarily fill the 16th place.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0099.jpg

The first puncheurs and climbers start to cross the line: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/mus.png Fraile is one of the best today, currently 9th in 25'59". After him, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gzl_slo.png Koren is 17th in 26'08", while before him, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pok.png Izagirre had finished 19th in 26'10".

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0100.jpg

The GC’s top 5 riders start to arrive: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/akm.png Guldhammer doesn't exactly have a brilliant day and finishes it off nearly 2 minutes behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met_ukr.png Zmorka with 27'17". The other 4 are not doing very well either...

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0101.jpg

...pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pnd.png Dombrowski in fact has exactly the same time as the Dane, while the top 3 all seem to be doing a bit better than that.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0102.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ozc.png Morton does 16 seconds better than both of them, to currently occupy a mediocre 84th place. Only pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vsa.png Schleck and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs_crc.png Amador left for this TT to end.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0103.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vsa.png Schleck finishes 82th in 26'56", with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs_crc.png Amador who looks to be going quite a bit stronger too: not looking good for the Luxembourg star.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0104.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs_crc.png The Costa Rican is in fact 22nd at the end of the stage, “just” 51" behind pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/met_ukr.png Zmorka and more importantly, a solid 39 seconds ahead of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vsa.png Schleck. He not only will retain his jersey, but he'll cement his first place too, ahead of 3 important stages.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/Suisse/PCM0105.jpg

So as we can see, not much changes in the top 10 aside from the gaps: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/bpv.png Van den Broeck is actually the biggest mover, and he was even very close to the 6th place held by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ora.png Quintana. He's paying the consequences of BPost's terrible TTT, but nothing that can't be fixed!
