Tour of Vancouver - Stage 4
trekbmc
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Vancouver/MG16_vancouver_4_013.jpg

We finally reach the mountains! And the riders will face a more than tough climb today up the Cypress, as well as a tough hilly circuit to tire them out. A good chance for pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Amador to gain time but also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ino.png Intxausti, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/col.png Úran and the other climbers have been waiting for today so will be eager to make an impression.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Vancouver/MG16_vancouver_4_001.jpg

Everybody wants to be up the front on a stage like this, and eventually a large break establishes itself:

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Craddock
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gen.png Ghyselinck
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Sisira
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cpl.png Dyachenko
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ssc.png Sayar
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Sinelobov
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/flc.png Egidio
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wha.png Buchmann
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/alm.png Pszczolarski

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Vancouver/MG16_vancouver_4_002.jpg

A lot of interest in the mountains points today means nobody can really control them and gain enough points to take the lead in the mountains standings, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Sinelobov takes 13 points by finishing first on the first and last sprint and second on the second, while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Craddock and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ssc.png Sayar take a sprint each as well.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Vancouver/MG16_vancouver_4_003.jpg

The break, minus pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gen.png Ghyselinck and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/alm.png Pszczolarski reaches the final intermediate sprint where pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cpl.png Dyachenko rolls over the line first, no competition from them as they must be saving their energy for the climb as they are almost at the base of it. Just 25km left now and the break has a 2 minute lead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Vancouver/MG16_vancouver_4_004.jpg

As soon as the pack reaches the base of the climb, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/afr.png Ricco is off! He accelerates up to the break which has now been reduced to just 3 riders, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cpl.png Dyachenko, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Sinelobov and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wha.png Buchmann. There’s no reaction in the peloton though as the pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png UBS and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ino.png Indosat domestiques chase.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Vancouver/MG16_vancouver_4_005.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wha.png Monsalve decides he isn’t happy with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/afr.png Ricco’s lead as the Italian enters the final 10km alone with a lead of a minute already. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/col.png Úran and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Amador attempt to follow the attack but can’t quite keep it in check.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Vancouver/MG16_vancouver_4_006.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ino.png Intxausti and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ino.png Signorini work together to catch pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/col.png Úran and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Amador, brining pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/eus.png Valls with them. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Pinot and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Duarte also follow but now begin to let a gap open.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Vancouver/MG16_vancouver_4_007.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/afr.png Ricco goes under the 5km to go banner with still a minute in hand!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Vancouver/MG16_vancouver_4_008.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ino.png Intxausti begins to stretch out the group! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wha.png Monsalve and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Amador can follow, just. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/col.png Úran lets a gap open and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/eus.png Valls blows up!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Vancouver/MG16_vancouver_4_009.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ino.png Intxausti goes again and finally opens a gap with 4km left! As he begins to approach pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/afr.png Ricco! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/col.png Úran and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/eus.png Valls return to pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wha.png Monsalve and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Amador as these 4 attempt to hold off a chase group composed of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Pinot, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Duarte, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ioc.png Pozzovivo and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ino.png Signorini that has formed. As well as the 24 rider chasing peloton that is still within a few minutes of the front of the race.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Vancouver/MG16_vancouver_4_010.jpg

The climb flattens out for the final kilometre but pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/afr.png Ricco only has 17 seconds on pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ino.png Intxausti! These two have managed to extend their lead to 1’50 on the chasers though!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Vancouver/MG16_vancouver_4_011.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/afr.png Ricco takes a sensational win! He attacked right from the base of the climb and it payed off! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ino.png Intxausti was strong today but went to late and finishes second.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Vancouver/MG16_vancouver_4_012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/eus.png Valls wins the sprint for third 1’54 after the winner. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Amador just steals 4th off pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wha.png Monsalve on the line, while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/col.png Úran lets a gap open, unable to sprint.

Almost a minute passes before pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ioc.png Pozzovivo beats pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Pinot and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/avc.png Duarte. Further backpcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kar.png Nazaret’s extreme sprint brings him within millimetres of taking the final top ten place off pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ino.png Signorini as they lead home the rest of the favourites, over 3 minutes down.
