Welcome to Busan GP, plenty of sprinters here should mean a lot of riders to contest the sprint, on top of that there are some reasonably strong crosswinds at the moment which could impact the race.
Surprisingly there’s little interest in the break today despite the large television time that comes with the distance today, with just two riders escaping the pack:
Schwarmes
Moulingui
There’s a touch of wheels in the pack and both Guillén and Thorsen are down! Awang and Jones are also involved, fortunately Ticos Air and Spark send their teams back and they have no trouble returning to the pack.
Fast-Forward to 30km left, the strong wind and fast pace sees 30 riders who clearly were badly placed getting dropped, including:
Awang, Manan
Vingerling
Uugunbayar
Scully
Vanderaerden
Rizza
Abdallah
Cano
The break has just 40 seconds left entering the final 15km, but now we get some Goodnews - Clifford, launches an attack!
The move doesn’t last, Brammeier and Alaphilippe chase him, and the morning break down almost immediately, leaving us with status quo going into the final 10km.
Podium Ambition leads the pack into the final 3km, Ewan is the only rider in front of Nelson though, with Soupe behind his leader, Allaphillipe is also at the front, but on the wrong side of the road. Stauff is right on their train, Kip let a gap open to them, but now closes it down with Salleh on his wheel, while they still have a small gap to the rest of the sprinters, led by Thorsen, Rowe and Kurth.
500 metres later Podium Ambition still control the situation, Rowe and Denz make a last minute acceleration to get on their train as they leave the rest of the group, now led by Colbrelli behind!
Soupe surges forward with 1.5km left! Even Nelson struggles with his teammates violent acceleration, as Stauff begins to come around the Australian! Kip and Salleh are the only ones to hang on behind as Rowe can’t follow the acceleration!
The final kilometre! Stauff accelerates on the right of Soupe and Nelson does likewise on the right! Kip decides he has more faith in the German taking Stauff’s wheel, while Salleh holds on behind him!
Kip moves out, Salleh comes up alongside him, with 500 metres left they line up, Nelson is barely leading the four, but it’s anybody’s game as they approach the line!
Salleh does it! His perfectly timed sprint sees him take a great win, closer to home than usual as well making this a special occasion. Nelson takes second as Stauff barely holds off Kip for the final podium spot. Soupe looks like he’s about to collapse but still manages a top 5, while Drapac was easily the best of the riders to miss the train, convincingly beating Nizzolo and Clarke. Rowe holds onto 9th after exhausting himself too early and Docker just manages to finish off the top 10.
