Busan GP

Welcome to Busan GP, plenty of sprinters here should mean a lot of riders to contest the sprint, on top of that there are some reasonably strong crosswinds at the moment which could impact the race.

Surprisingly there’s little interest in the break today despite the large television time that comes with the distance today, with just two riders escaping the pack:

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lpm.png Moulingui

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Busan/MG16_busan_1_002.jpg

There’s a touch of wheels in the pack and both pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tcr_crc.png Guillén and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spb.png Thorsen are down! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spr.png Awang and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wcc.png Jones are also involved, fortunately pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tcr_crc.png Ticos Air and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spb.png Spark send their teams back and they have no trouble returning to the pack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Busan/MG16_busan_1_003.jpg

Fast-Forward to 30km left, the strong wind and fast pace sees 30 riders who clearly were badly placed getting dropped, including:

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tvm.png Vingerling
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hpa.png Uugunbayar
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/0r8.png Scully
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lse.png Vanderaerden
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spb.png Rizza
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nwb.png Abdallah
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tcr.png Cano

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Busan/MG16_busan_1_004.jpg

The break has just 40 seconds left entering the final 15km, but now we get some Goodnews - pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wcc.png Clifford, launches an attack!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Busan/MG16_busan_1_005.jpg

The move doesn’t last, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas.png Brammeier and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Alaphilippe chase him, and the morning break down almost immediately, leaving us with status quo going into the final 10km.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Busan/MG16_busan_1_006.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Podium Ambition leads the pack into the final 3km, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Ewan is the only rider in front of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Nelson though, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Soupe behind his leader, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Allaphillipe is also at the front, but on the wrong side of the road. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Stauff is right on their train, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tvm.png Kip let a gap open to them, but now closes it down with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spr.png Salleh on his wheel, while they still have a small gap to the rest of the sprinters, led by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spb.png Thorsen, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas.png Rowe and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Kurth.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Busan/MG16_busan_1_007.jpg

500 metres later pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Podium Ambition still control the situation, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas.png Rowe and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Denz make a last minute acceleration to get on their train as they leave the rest of the group, now led by pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hpa.png Colbrelli behind!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Busan/MG16_busan_1_008.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Soupe surges forward with 1.5km left! Even pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Nelson struggles with his teammates violent acceleration, as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Stauff begins to come around the Australian! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tvm.png Kip and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spr.png Salleh are the only ones to hang on behind as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas.png Rowe can’t follow the acceleration!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Busan/MG16_busan_1_009.jpg

The final kilometre! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Stauff accelerates on the right of pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Soupe and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Nelson does likewise on the right! pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tvm.png Kip decides he has more faith in the German taking pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Stauff’s wheel, while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spr.png Salleh holds on behind him!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Busan/MG16_busan_1_010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tvm.png Kip moves out, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spr.png Salleh comes up alongside him, with 500 metres left they line up, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Nelson is barely leading the four, but it’s anybody’s game as they approach the line!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/CT/Busan/MG16_busan_1_011.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spr.png Salleh does it! His perfectly timed sprint sees him take a great win, closer to home than usual as well making this a special occasion. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Nelson takes second as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Stauff barely holds off pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/tvm.png Kip for the final podium spot. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/t3a.png Soupe looks like he’s about to collapse but still manages a top 5, while pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/chi.png Drapac was easily the best of the riders to miss the train, convincingly beating pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nwb.png Nizzolo and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/0r8.png Clarke. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/yas.png Rowe holds onto 9th after exhausting himself too early and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/cdb.png Docker just manages to finish off the top 10.
