Hello and welcome to the start in Harelbeke for the 2016 edition of the E3 Prijs. All eyes are on Danny Summerhill, but after his recent head-to-head battles with Kenneth Vanbilsen, he is not as dominate as he used to be.



Sergey Nikolaev, Pawel Bernas and Vegard Robinson Bugge attacked just after the flag drop to form the early break of the day, and the trio quickly opened up a 2'00" lead over the opening kilometers



Make that a group of a group of 7 off the front for the day! Niki Terpstra, Martin Velits, Ronan Van Zandbeek and Patrick Bercz were alloed to escape from the peleton, and within no time joined the lead group off the front.



Lierse, Becherovka and Azteca set themselves up on the front of the peleton, and as the break hit the first cobbled section of the day, their lead was just under the 3'00" mark.

The break's lead peaked at the 7 minute mark out on the course, but as the race hit the halfway mark, the difference began to drop.



60km remaining and with a handful of pave sections remaining, the break gap was down to 2'00. Azteca were working hard for Summerhill, and Strava were looking like they were in a good place for anyone of your riders.



CRASH! A touch of wheels and a number of favourites are down. It has caused some serious splits in the peleton, and there is utter chaos amongst the riders.

The peleton was in pieces as the dust settled on the race. A group of Azteca, Strava and Lierse riders were ahead of a slightly larger group, with the crash victims chasing on behind. The situation was a case of win or bust for many teams:

ATTACK SUMMERHILL! The American sees his chance to go with 30km remaining. The break is swallowed up in the process, and a 30" gap quickly opens up to the other 9 riders behind.



Vanbilsen and Baugnies try to respond on the next berg, but it is a difficult chase after missing the initial acceleration from Summerhill. No one else is able to follow the move, as the other favourites try and just make up ground after the splits.



Ferreira and Kruijswijk are the ones making moves further back, but if anything it is just for minor places now. Many of the Strava domestiques are caught with this attack, but the pair are still 2'09" down on Summerhill.



20km to go, and Summerhill's lead is just over a minute to the chase of Vanbilsen and Baugnies. Behind them, Kruijswijk has opened a gap on a group containing Gaudin, Langeveld and Ferreira, whilst Tsatevich, Cancellara and Thwaites had all chased onto the back of the same group, along with Kump.



I think Kump has ambitions of a podium today! He attacks his group to chase down Kruijwijk, jumps clear of him very quickly and with the flamme rouge just ahead, he has the Baugnies/ Vanbilsen group in sight! Surely, he can't catch them...



One man who isn't being caught and that is Danny Summerhill. His attack was never countered by any other rider and he solos to a fantastic victory. He had plenty of time to take the applause from the crowd and celebrate this win.



In the battle for a podium, Jerome Baugnies outsprints Kenneth Vanbilsen for second place, whilst Kump is just 50m too short! and takes fourth.

A long time later, Steven Kruijswijk betters Sebastian Langeveld for 5th. The Top 10 is rounded out by Tsatevich, Schlechter, Thwaites and Marcato.
