Bayern Rundfahrt starts off with a flat stage to please the very few sprinters in here. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Stauff, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Kump, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/sva.png Van der Sande are the favorites to take the first leader jersey – and wear it for just the few kilometers of tomorrow’s TT.

No break gets away before the first sprint of the day, so it's actually the sprinters battling it out this time around. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Stauff is faster than pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/sva.png Van der Sande, to grab some valuable green jersey points. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Petit is 3rd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Bayern/PCM0001.jpg

Later on, 3 riders build a margin on the peloton: they are pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/san.png Duran, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/frs.png Pavarin - a very dangerous rider, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lse.png Prado.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Bayern/PCM0002.jpg

Pavarin shatters the opposition to get the first KoM points of the race, as expected. Prado is 2nd and Duran is 3rd. That's also the point where they get the largest advantage on the pack - 8 minutes and a half. There's no big teams in the front relaying, which helps the break's chances a lot.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Bayern/PCM0003.jpg

The gap has gone well down to 2 minutes and a half with 40 kilometers to go. Pavarin officially claims the 1st place in the KoM standings with a top spot in the 2nd category climb, again well ahead of Prado and Duran.

About ten kilometers later we do see the same result with the Italian ahead of everyone in the 2nd of 3 intermediate sprints.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Bayern/PCM0004.jpg

When the pack is very close to the break with 15 to go - the gap has been trimmed down to just 1 minute - Pavarin decides the rest are not strong enough to go the whole hog and tries his own chances.

While the other 2 have already gotten caught by the pack, he leads the race past the last intermediate sprint of the day, ahead of Van der Sande who sprinted for the green jersey points. 7 to go for him and he still holds a convincing 45 seconds advantage on the bunch!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Bayern/PCM0005.jpg

It takes 3 more kilometers for him to get caught, but what matters is that the stage will come down to a bunch sprint! We can already see the first trains getting formed with 4 kms to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Bayern/PCM0006.jpg

The situation in the head is the following, with 3 kms to go.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/sva.png Zanotti
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Park
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/sva.png Dupont
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Maikinpcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Pasqualon
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/alm.png Lavoinepcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Kadri
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Gerdemannpcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Serebriakov
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Stauffpcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Petit
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kar.png Santospcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/sva.png Van der Sandepcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Kump
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/alm.png Matysiakpcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nns.png Sobotapcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lse.png Geschke
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/frs.png Navardauskaspcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/san.png Richeze
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kar.png Haussler
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nns.png Sanchez Gilpcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ubs.png Grillopcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Aberasturi

Strava's train seems not to have worked out, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/sva.png Van der Sande who got boxed and couldn't follow pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/sva.png Zanotti and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/sva.png Dupont, with much the same happening to Kraftwerk's and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Stauff.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Bayern/PCM0007.jpg

Therefore, the healthiest train is definitely Novatek's, who are doing some great work to keep pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Serebriakov in the front. The first on the Russian's wheel is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/alm.png Lavoine, but then there's also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Kump. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kar.png Santos got caught off guard in the wind too early, so he has no choice but to start his sprint as soon as he can, which he does, and cross his fingers.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Bayern/PCM0008.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Kadri is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Serebriakov's last man and lead out, and still is in the front with his captain on his wheel. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/alm.png Lavoine, however, decided to get out of their wheels sooner, as we already got past the last kilometer arc for some time, so he might have gotten the timing correctly.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Kump and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Petit are also close to the lead, as are pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/sva.png Van der Sande and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Stauff who managed to get back to the front thanks to their respective leadouts.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Bayern/PCM0009.jpg

Our spider-cam shows how pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/alm.png Lavoine didn't really make the correct decision by going early, and as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Kadri is done with his work, he delivers pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Serebriakov in the best position to sprint. With less than 100 meters to go, the Russian is already in the lead. However, pay attention to the riders behind them too, with pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Kump and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Petit who could take advantage of their wheels up to the last few meters and then throw their bikes past the finish line the quickest.

Behind them, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/sva.png Van der Sande, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Stauff, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lse.png Geschke, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/san.png Richeze and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nns.png Sobota still have chances to go for the podium if not more.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Bayern/PCM0010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Serebriakov takes a perfect win, and does so in front of a great pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ayu.png Petit and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Kump, who takes the boni seconds he really wanted - although still losing 2 seconds from pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/frs.png Pavarin because of the 2 earlier inermediate sprints.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/sva.png Van der Sande and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kmm.png Stauff come short of a podium, but they'll have to be content with 4th and 5th place, respectively.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Bayern/PCM0011.jpg

The sprint for 6th place is a close one, but it's pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lse.png Geschke who claims it. pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/san.png Richeze, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/alm.png Lavoine, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/nns.png Sobota and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Tolleson round off the top 10.
