place in pack at start of race

Is there anyway to alter where you start in the pack at the start of a race?

I just had a 7 stage race where I was put at the back at the start of every stage, so not a single chance to get into a breakaway, as by the time I had managed to get near the front of the peleton, the breakaway was over 2 minutes in front.

No way I'm sorry, you're only guaranteed to be in the front if you have won the previous stage/lead a standing.
