After the 2014 World Cup, it's time to host another football prediction game, this time for the European Championships. The system works largely the same as two years ago, though there are some changes here and there. So I'd advise everyone, returning and new player, to read through the rules carefully.
- Everyone can participate, no restrictions!
- This is a match-to-match prediction format. This means you don't need to predict the entire tournament beforehand, such as predicting who will advance from the group stage and which teams will reach the final.
- For now you can only predict the group stage matches. Once both teams have advanced to a next round match that fixture will become available for prediction. All the available matches will be listed in the second post of this thread.
- The deadline for every individual prediction is the kick-off time for the match. You can change your prediction as many times as you want before the kick-off. After that your prediction will stand.
- You can send me your prediction by either uploading the Excel-file with your predictions and send the link in a PM, or just a simple PM with the result.
- If you want to predict all group matches in one go, I'd prefer you use the Excel-file and fill in the first 36 matches. However, if you predict in small pieces or predict every match one hour before kick-off, it is easier to just write a simple PM.
- You need to predict the outcome of each match. For example, if you think the match France - Romania will end in a 2 - 0 victory for France, you will need to fill in that result in the file, or write a PM with something like France 2-0 Romania.
- In the knockout phase, the results will be those after 90 minutes + injury time (so no extra time/penalties).
- When you predict a draw in the knockout phase you need to specify which team you think will advance to the next round (or in case of the final, who wins the trophy).
- There will be six bonus questions during the game. The first one will be predicting the winner of the European Championship outright (before the first match of the tournament). The other five questions will be based on the various stages of the competition (one for the group stage, on for the quarter finals etc.).
Group stage
- Correct winner/draw: 10 points
- Correct number of goals for team A: 5 points
- Correct number of goals for team B: 5 points
- Correct outcome of match: 10 points
Knockout stage
- Correct winner/draw after 90 minutes: 10 points
- Correct number of goals for team A after 90 minutes: 5 points
- Correct number of goals for team B after 90 minutes: 5 points
- Correct outcome of the match after 90 minutes: 5 points
- Correct team to advance to next round (or win the championship): 5 points
- From the quarter final onwards, all matches will receive double points.
- The final will receive quadruple points (x4).
Bonus questions
- European Champions outright: 100 points
- Other bonus questions: 25 points
- Doubling/quadrupling does not apply to the bonus questions, only to the matches.
- In case there are multiple correct answers to a question, all of them will give the full 25 points.
Examples
France - Romania (Group stage)
- Prediction: 2 - 0
- Result: 0 - 1 (0 points)
- Result: 2 - 2 (5 points for predicting 2 goals for France)
- Result: 0 - 0 (5 points for predicting 0 goals for Romania)
- Result: 3 - 1 (10 points for predicting the winner)
- Result: 2 - 1 (15 points, 10 for predicting the winner, 5 for predicting 2 goals for France)
- Result: 3 - 0 (15 points, 10 for predicting the winner, 5 for predicting 0 goals for Romania)
- Result: 2 - 0 (30 points, 10 for predicting the winner, 5 for predicting 2 goals for France, 5 for predicting 0 goals for Romania, 10 for predicting the outcome of the match)
Netherlands - Greece (Round of 16)
- Prediction: 0 - 0 and Greece to advance
- Result: 2 - 1 (0 points)
- Result: 1 - 0 (5 points for predicting 0 goals for Greece)
- Result: 0 - 1 (10 points, 5 for predicting 0 goals for Netherlands, 5 for predicting Greece to advance)
- Result: 1 - 1, Netherlands wins aet (10 points for predicting a draw)
- Result: 1 - 1, Greece wins aet (15 points, 10 for predicting a draw, 5 for predicting Greece to advance)
- Result: 0 - 0, Netherlands wins aet (25 points, 10 for predicting a draw, 5 for predicting 0 goals for Netherlands, 5 for predicting 0 goals for Greece, 5 for predicting the outcome of the match)
- Result: 0 - 0, Greece wins aet (30 points, 10 for predicting a draw, 5 for predicting 0 goals for Netherlands, 5 for predicting 0 goals for Greece, 5 for predicting the outcome of the match, 5 for predicting Greece to advance)
- You don't need to predict every match, but you can't score points for matches you didn't predict.
- I will give a scoring update after every match or match day (depending on the amount of time I have). The scoring can also be found in the third post of this thread.
- If a game gets postponed for whatever reason, the time to send in the predictions will be extended as well.
- If, due to any circumstance, the UEFA changes the outcome of a match or orders a rematch, the results will be changed according to that decision. Any other decision by the UEFA that have an impact on this game will be followed as well.
- I would like to ask not to reveal your predictions before the kick-off. There is no punishment for it, but for the spirit of the game I'd be fairer if all predictions were kept secret.
- When you discover a mistake in the scoring please notify me. If this mistake is in your advantage and you report it you'll receive a fair play award.
- If, during the game, a situation comes along in which the rules don't clarify (enough), my decision will be decisive.
- Feel free to ask any questions you might have either here or via PM.
- Have fun and best of luck to all the participants!

Love it, I'm in as well! Just one thought, maybe give more weight to the bonus questions? For instance, predicting the perfect result of the final gives more points than "just" predicting the right winner of that match PLUS predicting the right champion outright (if I'm not mistaken), which would be a much bigger achievement in my mind. But those things are always hard to balance, so I don't know.
Thanks for organizing this btw, I know that it can be quite some work

If you predict the perfect final score you'll get 120 points (30*4). The bonus questions are meant as little add-ons to give some extra scoring opportunity. I tend to see them as an "extra match" to not put too much weight on them, which is why I assigned 25 points to them.
Anyway, I've increased the amount of points for that question from 75 to 100, which is 4 times as much as a regular bonus question (because the final also gives 4 times as much as a group stage match )

We're a week away from the start of the tournament. The squads have been announced and the last friendlies are being played. Don't forget to send in the predictions for the first matches and also don't forget to answer the bonus questions as it could cost you 100 points.

An hour and 20 minutes left before the first match - , the tension is rising! We're at 12 participants right now, and still waiting on some to send in their prediction for the first match or the bonus questions! Don't forget the deadline is 21:00 CEST, which is the same time as the kickoff.
