4 riders taking part to the Tunisian Championships, that this year will be raced in a mountainous route, in the whereabouts of Kasserine. The question is: given that the 4 of them all are from different teams, will we see a non-early breakaway win?
Homrani (Sodexo) and Chtioui (Swisscom) attack as soon as the racing is off. They struggle to build a gap over the other 2 though. Their advantage will never hit the 1 minute mark.
Therefore, they get caught halfway through the first climb of the day, the longest.
Homrani (Sodexo) knows he can make it and tries his luck yet again, just a few hundreds of meters later. The 3 behind won’t even try to follow because he looked to be sooo strong and why even actually make an effort to try to win a worthless jersey?
This way Homrani flies up the next 2 climbs undisturbedly.
…and he takes a deserved win, after not giving up after his first attempt. Nice work. The other 3 didn’t cross the finish line. Nice work to them as well for making it to the last climb before being forced? to withdraw.
The very same riders will also take part to the pan-flat Time Trial. Chtioui (Swisscom) looks to be the clear favourite for this one, everyone else needs to hope something unexpected happens to threaten the defending Champion.
Ben Nasser (Kenya Airways) is the penultimate rider to take the start and the first to set an acceptable time.
Chtioui (Swisscom) is going even stronger though, after the second checkpoint he is more than a minute in front of him, predictably.
Ben Nasser (Kenya Airways) crosses the line in 1 h and 11 minutes and momentarily takes the lead.
Very momentarily, because Chtioui (Swisscom) arrives less than 40 seconds later and is delighted to know he will wear the Tunisian National Champion jersey in every Time Trial he’ll face for yet another year.
Homrani and Khederi fought it out for the podium and the latter managed it for less than 20 seconds.
