Welcome to the World Team Time Trial championships! Over 52.5 tough kilometres climbing through Paarl this year’s world champions will be decided. Netherlands are definite favourites, having won the past three editions of the race, so too are Spain, with 2 victories and 2 runner-up spots. Other teams are worth noting, such as France and Russia, podium finishers last year, as well as Germany, Italy, USA and Great Britain. Hopefully an exciting race for us today.

Denmark is the first team off today, they have some strong time trialists but no real climbers aside from Guldhammer and reach the first time check in 38’50.

You can already see Germany in the background though as Keinath leads them over the line 1’39 faster.

Norway begin fast and are just 17 seconds behind Germany at the first timecheck. Although USA is even faster crossing the line in 37’06 to top Germany, while Great Britain follows just after 16 seconds slower. These are four good chances for the win today.

Defending champions Netherlands start fast and finish in 36’48 topping USA by 17 seconds.

Colombia is fast through the first timecheck and is just 5 seconds faster than Netherlands, if they can limit their losses on the more time trial focused parts of the course they could seriously contend the win from here.

And Italy tops Netherland’s time! They reach the first timecheck 9 seconds faster than the defending champions.

Germany reach the second timecheck in 58’25 and the third in 1h08’55, setting the times to beat there.

Spain are just 14 seconds off the pace at the first timecheck, as one of the later starters today.

Netherlands continue strongly and reach the third timecheck in 1h08’08, topping strong times by USA, Great Britain and Germany by around 43 seconds. Further up the road, Germany has finished with a time of 1h25’56.

And Colombia reach the third timecheck, 2 seconds faster than The Netherlands! As Anacona leads them past Slovakia. The race isn’t over yet though, as they still have 8km to climb.

Italy are racing an amazing race though and are 23 seconds faster than Colombia! Just Spain left of the main contenders to reach the final time check.

Netherlands finish with a time of 1h25’23, now they can only hope for a fourth victory here.
