pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Tasmania/MG15_tasmania_1_015.jpg

The tour of Tasmania begins in Bicheno, a town on the Eastern coast of the island, with the first stage moving North over a 205 kilometre route to St Helens. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Goss is a definite favourite today, given the stage finishes just 2 hours away the world champions home town of Launceston. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok2.png Mohs and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Tzortzakis are also favourites today, amongst others, as long as they survive the many undulations on the route today. There are also some strong cross winds blowing today, so the riders will have to be wary of splits in the bunch.

14 riders are allowed away today, which is surprising given the terrain today, not only that, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Zmorka and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png McCarthy, outside contenders to win the race overall, are allowed into the group. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bac.png Honkisz takes the climb followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pro.png Lammertink and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vsa.png Paajanen. While the other nine riders in this group are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vtb.png Pellaud, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gde.png Caruso, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Mudarra, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/qst.png Barbin, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pnd.png Marycz, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Viennet, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Stybar, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/btc.png Kneisky and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vwa.png Archbold.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Tasmania/MG15_tasmania_1_002.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gde.png Caruso attacks the break as the others get caught, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png OZ, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok2.png Pokerstars and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Festina all weren’t happy with the group away and pulled them back, there are 130km remaining and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gde.png Caruso has a 45 second lead on the bunch.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Tasmania/MG15_tasmania_1_003.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Kennaugh and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok2.png Stauff went right to the line in the sprint with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Kennaugh just taking the points. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Holloway finished third. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vwa.png Zabel, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Tzortzakis and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Goss were all interested up there as well, but not prepared to give everything. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gde.png Caruso was also caught just before the sprint there are 115km remaining.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Tasmania/MG15_tasmania_1_004.jpg

The next 20 kilometres are ridden easily as the riders catch their breath, before pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png McCarthy decides to go, he is a contender for tomorrow’s stage as the general classification, so it will be interesting to see how much ground their give him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Tasmania/MG15_tasmania_1_005.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png McCarthy wins the intermediate sprint, despite the peloton almost catching him before it he should be able to get a bit further out now. Of the peloton pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Holloway and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Kennaugh take the remaining places, just ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok2.png Mohs.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Tasmania/MG15_tasmania_1_006.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png McCarthy has 10 kilometres to go but only 25 seconds on the peloton, where a full pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Festina train have been setting a very hard pace, with the crosswinds today, the riders will have to watch out for them at this pace.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Tasmania/MG15_tasmania_1_007.jpg

As predicted several riders are behind due to the crosswinds this includes pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Skujins and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Viennet!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Tasmania/MG15_tasmania_1_008.jpg

Even pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Coppel is expected to work today and he catches pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png McCarthy with 7km to go, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Tzortzakis is well placed on his wheel given the small hill to come.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Tasmania/MG15_tasmania_1_009.jpg

5 kilometres to go, the riders watch each other up the hill, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/akm.png Hagen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tcs.png Trofimov right up there watching for attacks. Most sprinters have sand bagged a little for the climb, although they mostly up in the top 20 riders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Tasmania/MG15_tasmania_1_010.jpg

3km to go! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Durbridge is trying to lead out pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Goss from way out, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok2.png Mohs, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gde.png Rowe, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Kennaugh and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ven.png Van Avermaet line up on his wheel. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png Bennett, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/akm.png Kristoff, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vwa.png Zabel and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ven.png Kruijswijk line up on the other side of the road in that order, followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/akm.png Hagen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tcs.png Trofimov while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Holloway is also well placed.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Tasmania/MG15_tasmania_1_011.jpg

2 kilometres left, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Durbridge still leads pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Goss, but now pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Coquard launches a massive sprint and comes past on the right side of the road, although his teammate pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Tzortzakis is further back. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ven.png Van Avermaet also decides to go, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Kennaugh, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png Bennett and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vwa.png Zabel on his wheel, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Holloway tries move up past pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vwa.png Zabel. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok2.png Mohs and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gde.png Rowe still wait patiently behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Goss.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Tasmania/MG15_tasmania_1_012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Holloway leads them under the flamme rouge, just coming past pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Coquard as they reach it, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Kennaugh and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vwa.png Zabel both follow pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Holloway with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ven.png Van Avermaet trying to stay on their wheels. There’s a small gap to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png Bennett, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok2.png Mohs, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Goss and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gde.png Rowe, who got caught behind when the others moved forward. Even further back pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/akm.png Kristoff and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Tzortzakis are both coming to the fore but are likely too far back now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Tasmania/MG15_tasmania_1_013.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Holloway still leads while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Kennaugh tries to move past him, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vwa.png Zabel still waiting patiently as well. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Coquard and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ven.png Van Avermaet were both unable to hang onto these two and are moving backwards.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Tasmania/MG15_tasmania_1_014.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Kennaugh just gets it on the line, winning the stage! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vwa.png Zabel came too late and couldn’t close the gap in second, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Holloway went too early and couldn’t hold them off, finishing third. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gde.png Rowe beats pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/akm.png Kristoff for fourth, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok2.png Pokerstars duo pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok2.png Mohs and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok2.png Lay finish sixth and seventh respectively. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Coquard finishes eighth after going early, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/akm.png Hagen is attentive enough to finish ninth. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Tzortzakis and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png Goss take tenth and eleventh respectively, both disappointing performances, especially for the world champion at home.
