I got a bit bored after the end of EPIC, so I started thinking of a new fantasy game. This game would start in 2016 and would be based on real life cycling, but with fantasy teams.
After a draft where people can select riders, you will end up with a team. 30 riders per team seems ok, as there will most likely be too many riders for the signups I expect. So now you have a team for the rest season, and you need to select riders for races, pretty obvious. The day before each race, you will need to post your lineup of the riders of your team that are in the race. Riders will earn points depending on their finish.
The major part will be cycling knowledge, you can have Froome and Contador in your team, but if you sign them up for Tour Down Under, you will most likely end up pointless. Some riders will target very specific races, like Stannard is likely to get a good result in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, not so much in Ronde Van Vlaanderen.
The tricky part will be which riders you select. For example, a good climber used as a domestique in the race (let's say Ritchie Porte working for Froome) will likely earn less points than a worse climber who is the leader for his team (let's say Matthias Frank). But in some races, Porte would get leadership and you better select him there.
Would people be interested in this game? Do you see any flaws?
I would do something slightly different to your suggestion. (This is already being done in CyM Spain, so credits to that community)
After the draft, we get this team for the whole season (except some transfer periods we can open whenever we want) and depending on the CQ Ranking, our teams get more or less points.
This sounds really interesting, but I think EPIC still has the interest, but maybe adjust a) how much role playing has an effect on points. Like I guess custom riders an exception but HQs can be less so affected, but maybe adjust it more to general activity? And b) Reports, I know this was the issue towards the end but maybe impose a ban on dreary pan-flat no cobbles reports being too long and mostly big detailed ones to be important stages. It should go without saying but yeah...
Even spend a few weeks or couple months changing up various aspects of the system, I for one would still be interested in almost exactly same EPIC with changes above, plus draft system and new teams as you said.
Not to say your idea there isn't good, on the contrary, I'm still very interested in your ideas there.

Well, I think EPIC needs a break, I doubt the few months break changed people's motivvation to help out with the reports and furthermore Atlantius has a game going now, so I would need someone totaly new to help with the database etc.
This is also something completely different as it has nothing to do with PCM
Either way, if just Marsu is interested in your game, I doubt it will be working, so I'll probably just cancel this project
Oh no no no please don't misunderstand, I'm very interested in your original idea here, was just giving my two cents on EPIC but I guess you are right. This sounds very good and without reports, etc, it would probably work quite well.

hahahahahahahahaha, that's a death sentence for sure

does Marc de Maar end up with huge amount of points if he happens to win TDU? otherwise that's a flawed system. punishing good riders for standard results but not rewarding "bad" riders for excellent results
