The much-anticipated Tour of Northern Europe will start off with a Team Time Trial. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Metinvest, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png OZ and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sui.png Swisscom are the favourites to take the first race lead, but teams like pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Festina, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vsa.png Vesuvio and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tcs.png Tinkoff could surprise as well.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/FavouritesStage1.png

The first team to start is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bpo.png Team BPost. They are not really going that fast, and their performance is definitely not aided by the pouring rain that is falling on the race right now. It’s to be expected the weather to be more favourable later on.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S10001.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vsa.png Vesuvio and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vwa.png Volkswagen take off while it already stopped raining. They had the exact same time at the first intermediate point, but comparing their second checkpoint’s times, we can see that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vsa.png Vesuvio prevailed and they’re now 12” in front of their opponents.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S10002.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vwa.png Volkswagen’s riders may haven’t managed their energies too well as they cross the line 30” behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vsa.png Vesuvio. BPost is currently third, after having accumulated 53” from the leaders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S10004.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Festina stands out at the moment as they are leading the 2nd intermediate by 11”.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S10006.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/kar.png Karcher are in the lead as they get past the first checkpoint. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/kar.png Fiedler has been relaying for most of the time and you can see the effect.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S10008.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Festina made it to the provisional 1st place until the finish line! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Coppel’s team have lost 5” from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/vsa.png Vesuvio but they still got in front of them by 6”!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S10009.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png OZ are in the race as well and after the 2nd checkpoint, they are only behind the current leaders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S10010.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S100101.png

…nothing has changed though and they will come to the finish line with 3” behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Festina. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ven.png Venchi also cross the line in 4th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S10011.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Red Bull are in the race now, and they have already set the fastest time, after the 1st intermediate. It could be both a good and bad sign, seeing that the teams that are leading now have done worse than the others behind them, in the first few kilometers.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S10012.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S100121.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/kar.png Karcher are also done now but they are visibly disappointed after their first intermediate time. They’re just 5th, 15” seconds behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Festina, which is still comfortably leading.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S10014.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Metinvest are in-race now. The Ukrainian-based team, which is also considered the top favourite for today, just approached the TTT, and they have set a solid time in the first checkpoint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S10015.png

Meanwhile, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Red Bull finish their trial in 27’27”, which means they just get to take up the 4th place.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bac.png Bacardi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Metinvest and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Becherovka also get to the finish in quick succession.

The Ukrainians have the better time of the 3, but they still can’t dethrone neither pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Festina nor pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ozc.png OZ. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bac.png Bacardi are just behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Cancellara’s team, while the pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Czechs get to sit in the 7th place for now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S100171.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S100231.png

Now that even the last team to start, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sui.png Swisscom, got past the first checkpoint, we can get the final standings for it. As we can see, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/rbh.png Red Bull dominated it fair and square, but they just couldn’t keep that pace up until the last kilometers.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S10021.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S100211.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tcs.png Tinkoff on the other hand are not really living up to their expectations, as we were expecting them to be around the top 6. Even though the Russian force set a decent time at the first intermediate, they’re now losing quite some terrain.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S10022.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sui.png Swisscom also leave the second checkpoint behind them. They’re going really strong so far, as they’ve got the third time up until this point.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S10024.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S100241.png

And finally, the last 2 teams cross the line. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tcs.png Tinkoff are 11th, disappointingly just outside the top 10, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sui.png Swisscom manage a good 3rd place. This means that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Festina won the opening stage of the TONE!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/TONE/S100251.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Yoann Paillot is the one who will wear the leader jersey tomorrow.
