Vuelta a Colombia - Stage 4
trekbmc
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Colombia/MG15_colombia_4_000.jpg

Stage 4, a rest for the climbers or a reward for the sprinters who survived the mountains so far. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Howard and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Grosu were the main sprinters who will start today, although it could prove to be a chance for other riders, weaker sprinters or opportunists, given the two favourites don’t have many lead-out men left, the break today will also have a good chance today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Colombia/MG15_colombia_4_001.jpg

5 riders get away without too much trouble today, they are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pnd.png Siutsou, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Hivert, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png Clarke, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mus.png Blanco and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mei.png Salerno. We’ll see if they can stay away today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Colombia/MG15_colombia_4_002.jpg

The break isn’t very interested in any of the sprints, the first goes to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mus.png Blanco and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png Clarke takes the second.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Colombia/MG15_colombia_4_003.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Hivert is first across the final intermediate sprint, more importantly though is that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Nutresa’s chasing has brought the break back to 1’40 with 30km remaining. Despite pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Quintero, their best sprinter being near the back of the bunch.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Colombia/MG15_colombia_4_004.jpg

15km remaining and the bunch has split, with 50 riders behind the bunch, fortunately there are no big names with the best in GC being pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mus.png Warbasse, who is in 38th position. The break has 1’15 on the peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Colombia/MG15_colombia_4_005.jpg

10 kilometres left for the bunch but the break still has a 1’15 gap. They are likely having trouble pulling the break back because climbers such as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Ardila Cano and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Velits are chasing. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Grosu, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Howard pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Quintero, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/tcs.png Pokidov and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/btc.png Fukuda are the sprinters up there.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Colombia/MG15_colombia_4_006.jpg

7km to go and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/boi.png Clarke and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mus.png Blanco both can’t keep up. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/mei.png Salerno, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pnd.png Siutsou and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Hivert push on, they still have just over a minute on the bunch.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Colombia/MG15_colombia_4_007.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pnd.png Siutsou goes for it under the 5km banner, he is the worst sprinter of those three so he has decided to go for it. He still has 50 seconds on the bunch, which is led by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Talansky.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Colombia/MG15_colombia_4_008.jpg

3km left and the first three come back together at the front and they still have 50 seconds on the pack, where pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Hosek and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Velits are trying to lead out pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Howard.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Colombia/MG15_colombia_4_009.jpg

2km left and the peloton have the break back to 30 seconds, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pnd.png Siutsou is doing most the work keeping them away.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Lavery leads pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Grosu in the peloton, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Becherovka has pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Hosek and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Velits for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Howard. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ven.png Yates and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok2.png Roche are right on pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Howard’s wheel, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/qst.png Barbin and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/btc.png Fukuda follow as well as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Scheunemann, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Beltran, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Quintero, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Dekker, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Spilak and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/btc.png Taaramäe.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Colombia/MG15_colombia_4_010.jpg

The break are still playing games and now they’re almost caught, despite having a reasonable lead just 2 kilometres ago. Now pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Grosu begins to come past pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Lavery, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Velits tries to pull pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Howard up to him! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ven.png Yates, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok2.png Roche and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/qst.png Barbin are beginning to launch sprints behind, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/btc.png Fukuda, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gnu.png Quintero and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Dekker wait, but they look to be too far back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Colombia/MG15_colombia_4_011.jpg

1km left and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Grosu comes past the break! Only pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Hivert tries to match his speed, but he begins to fall back, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Howard is now launching his sprint and looks to be the only other rider who could catch pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Grosu. Further back pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ven.png Yates and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok2.png Roche are trying to catch up.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Colombia/MG15_colombia_4_012.jpg

500 metres and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Grosu has a massive gap, which pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Howard is desperately attempting to close. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Velits leads pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Hivert, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ven.png Yates and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok2.png Roche at the head of the pack, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Lavery, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Dekker and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/btc.png Taaramäe are nearing the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PT/Colombia/MG15_colombia_4_013.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Grosu wins by a huge margin! He really was the best today, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Howard can only watch in second place. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Dekker and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/btc.png Taaramäe come right to line for third place and a time bonus, which pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Dekker and
takes by mere millimetres. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/pok2.png Roche finishes fifth ahead of yellow jersey pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Spilak, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ork.png Hivert takes 7th after being in the break. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ven.png Yates and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bec.png Velits get 8th and 9th respectively while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Lavery still gets a top ten despite his great work helping pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/met.png Grosu.
