Does equipment effect performance?

From playing previous cycling managers the equipment didn't effect performance. Are things different in 2015?

The equipment actually affects performance but its effect is so low than you can't notice it really. If you haven't noticed it before PCM 15 then you won't notice it in PCM 15 either.

Well, if you attack on a mountain stage, arguably you could gain a second or two on your nearest yellow jersey competitor depending on the kit you have chosen?
