Long time, no see! Well, Im finally back to this forum with something completely new and totally different from what you've seen in this Forum so far. Due to the athletics season being over and the GAA season coming to its Highpoint in Ireland I found myself bored and decided to design my own GAA jerseys (GAA Wikipedia) for the non-irish teams. Since I like the outcome of my trials, I decided to run a simulation on both club and Intercounty Level. (who knows, maybe even global)
British GAA
The British Council of the Gaelic Athletic Associationor British GAA is a provincial council of the Gaelic Athletic Association outside Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in Great Britain. The British Council is responsible for the seven GAA counties of Britain: Gloucestershire, Hertfordshire, Lancashire, London, Scotland, Warwickshire and Yorkshire.
The Pinnacle of the British GAA Season will be the All-Britain Senior Football Championship, in which the 7 counties of the British GAA fight for the title. London GAA will get a first round bye, as they also compete in the All-Ireland Senior Championships. The second most important tournament organised by the association is the Interclub Champions Cup in which the County Championship winning clubs are facing off against each other.
The British GAA will also send Teams to international Competitions such as the European GAA Championships as well as the GAA World Championships.

The Lancashire GAA Board organises Gaelic Games in the Northwest of the county. Additionally, the Board organises the Lancashire Intercounty Team that competes in the All-Britain Senior Football Championship. The Board has 10 members. The Fullen Gaels do not participate in the Lancashire GAA competitions, being the only club in the Region to organise Hurling. Instead they compete in the Warwickshire championships. Most Teams from the Lancashire GAA are from the Cities of Liverpool and Manchester, however, two non-Lancashire Teams (from the Isle of Man and Chester) compete in the County Senior Football Championships and the players are eligible for selection on the Inter-county team.
The organisation of the Lancashire Championship is done following British GAA rules that Championship Tournaments of 8 or more teams have to be played out in a single game, knock-out stage format. As Lancashire GAA has 9 members that play Football, the County Senior Club Title is decided in a 4 stage knockout tournament. The preliminary round sees the two non-Lancashire Sides Ellan Vannin (Isle of Man) and St. Patricks (Chester) contesting for a spot in the Lancashire GAA Quarter-Finals on an Annual basis. The 7 Lancashire based teams join the competition in the Quarterfinals and are seeded by a random draw, with the top seed facing the winner of the preliminary round.
The Scottish League is played as a single round Round-Robin. At the end of the 5 weeks, the two top placed teams play out a championship game at Pearse Park, the Home of Scotland GAA. Record Champion are Dúnedin Conolly from Edinburgh with 9 Championships and they are set to add several more titles in the near future, as the club can draw heavily from Irish Expats playing at University Level. Other fierce competitors come from Dundee and Glasgow.
The Gloucestershire GAA Board organises Gaelic Games in the English County of Gloucestershire. The Board organises the 6 team Gloucestershire Championships in Gaelic Football, which are played as a three round knock-out stage competition, as well as the Gloucestershire Inter-County Team that competes at at the All-Britan Senior Football Championship.
The Gloucestershire Senior Championship is organised by the Counties GAA council. The 1st round of the Championship pits the teams ranked 3-6 in the previous championship against each other, with the two finalists entering the championship in the semi-finals. The champion qualifies directly for the interclub championship, while the second finalist enters the preliminary round.

Well I've watched a bit of Hurling and Gaelic Football before, so I'll give this a go. Might have to have a read up of the rules a bit, but still probably know a bit more than most of the European users on here
I know a little about gaelic football so will follow, hope to learn more!

I changed the thing slightly. Ill focus on the 7 British County Boards and then Ill post the Euros and World CHampionships when I decide its time for them to come up!
This will progress slowly, but hopefully steady once all the jerseys and championship formats are done If I focused on all overeas boadrs Wed never finish a season

Good news guys! I have been working on a couple of Excel Spreadsheets today, and I think I have found a way to simulate the league just based on strength points of individual players. This could make it possible to make a fun little manager game out of this series too, if there is interest from the forum. If so just post below to indicate your interest. Dependent on that I might move this to the games thread and we can make this a nice little manager game (with some frisky rules to make it interesting...).
I would however like to point out some limitations to the method that should be known and considered (in either case, and who knows, maybe some of you can help me refine some of the points).
Firstly, this calculation works under the assumption that every player can only score 1 goal per game.
Secondly, the simulation assumes that every player can only score 4 points, additionally to a goal. Thus the total score contributed by a player can only be 7!
The game works with randomized statistics, i.e. all values are randomized, so for the British GAA simulation this can cause very surprising results.

Cheers Waghlon. If everything pans out how I hope it will, it should make for an interesting simulation. At this stage I have only the bare minimum variables included in my database, i.e. Offense, defense and derivatives of the offense statistic to create the match scores. But I already have some ideas for the inclusion of more variables, such as injury and discipline to make the whole thing more interesting.
I added some graphics for one of the Glasgow teams. I think I will start the first season with just a simulation of the scottish champs to see If i can get the simulation running properly.
Im all set to simulate the Scottish GAA season... Im currently trying to figure out scoring probability (an attribute in my Database) to get the potential scores right. Im hoping that I can figure it out tonight and try some tests!
Dúnedin Connolly successfully retains Scottish Interclub Title
Dúnedin Connolly has successfully defended its Scottish Championship after defeating Dundee Dalriada in the Scotland GAA Interclub Championship Game.
Dúnedin Connolly
The Edinburgh Side opened their Campaign at home against Sands McSwiney, defeating the Coatbridge side by a Margin of 1-9 to 1-7. The season was far from perfect however, as the Team fell short of victory to both TÃr Connail Harps (2-8 to 3-6) and Dundee Dalriada (2-5 to 1-9). Both away losses meant that Dúnedin had to secure a win over the Glasgow Gaels in their second Home fixture of the season to secure a spot in the Championship Game. The Gaels were defeated by a record Margin of 2-17 to 0-5, securing 2nd Place in the Pool Stages for Dúnedin. After Narrowly squeezing into the final, the defending Champions outlasted Dundee 1-15 to 1-8 to claim the 2015 Scottish Championship title at Pearse Park. Their win qualifies them automatically for the first round of the All-Britain Interclubs Championship.
Dundee Dalriada
Dundee's Season ended in Disappointment. After obliterating TÃr Connail away (1-6 to 3-9), the team suffered a set back in their Home opener against Glasgow, with the Gaels beating Dundee 3-6 to 1-8. Dún Deagh then finished the Pool Stages strong beating both Dúnedin Connolly (1-9 to 2-5) and Sands McSwiney (2-6 to 0-10). Thus the team travelled to Pearse Park on the outskirts of Glasgow as the winner of the pool stages, but were defeated by Dúnedin Connolly by a margin of 7 points (1-8 to 1-15). The season is not over for the club however, as the Dundee side will compete in the Preliminary rounds of the All-Britain Interclubs Championship, to secure a qualification berth for the British Club Championship.
Glaschu Gaels
The Gaels from Glasgow missed out on the Qualification for the Finals once again. After enjoying a bye week in week one, the Gaels kicked off their season with a win at Dundee Dalriada (3-6 to 1-8 for the Gaels), before suffering a tough loss to Sands McSwiney at Home (2-4 to 3-7), which ultimately proved costly in the Gaels bid for a final qualification. The Team bounced back from the defeat by beating TÃr Conaill at Home (3-6 to 3-2) before loosing to Dúnedin in Edinburgh 2-17 to 0-5. The total points tally saw Glasgow drawing on points with Edinburgh, but loose out on the final due to the Points differential.
TÃr Conaill
Scotlands biggest GAA club had a season to forget. The Team finished last in the Pool Stages after loosing against both Dundee (1-6 to 3-9) and local Rivals Glasgow Gaels (3-2 to 3-6). Their sole win came against Dúnedin Connolly in a nail biting finish that saw the Glasgow side hold on to a 1 point victory margin with a score of (3-6 to 2-8 [Agg: 15-14]), with a draw against Sands McSwiney (1-11 to 2-8) sealing TÃr Conaills fate to finish last this season. The club hopes to bounce back next season.
Sands McSwiney
After a disappointing 2014 campaign, Sands McSwiney's sole aim for the 2015 season was to not finish last. Despite losses to both Dúnedin (1-9 to 1-7) and Dundee (0-10 to 2-6) the Team finished 4th in the Pool stages after defeating the Glasgow Gaels (3-7 to 2-4) and tying with TÃr Conaill (2-8 to 1-11). The 3 points (2 for a win, 1 for a draw) and the better points score differential saw Sands McSwiney finish in 4th place ahead of TÃr Chonaill.
I updated the Graphics to do better presentations in the future. You'll see what I mean when we get to the All-Britain Stages
Also, before I am starting with the next Championship simulation, I am going to finish my database for the 7 counties, to have all teams included. Once I have it all done, I'll upload it here with explanations etc. If you guys want to have a look. Since its just continuing the numbering for the Names (players are called XX YY, XX being their position and YY being the Number that this player at the position occupies) I can have it done pretty quickly. The most tedious part is making sure that every Player gets into a team and all the stats are randomised.
Also, and perhaps I should have explained this before, but one or two basic understandings that you need to have for the scores:
-I mostly left them in xx-yy to xx-yy form since that is the usual expression you'd find in the media.
-The two scores have different meanings. XX is the number of Goals scored per game, while YY is the number of points (shots between the posts, like a rugby drop-kick).
-A goal has the same value as 3 points. Thus if the score between Team A and Team B is 1-3 to 0-5, then Team A wins by a margin of 6-5. Likewise if the score is 0-17 for Team A to 1-12 for Team B, Team A wins as they have scored more points (17-15).
-The number of goals scored in any match is only relevant for the points score. You do not lose if you score less goals than the opponent!
I hope this clears things up for you guys that are unfamiliar, or were confused by the scorelines I posted in the Scottish GAA Championship
