Here is my new Giro variant. The Giro is to begin in Croatia with three stages, including a hilly stage to Rijeka. Then a team time trail in Trieste is followed by two flat stages and two hilly stages to San Luca and San Marino before the first mountain stage to Prato di Tivo. After the first mountain stage there will be a rest day, then two more flat stages.
The 12th stage to Siena goes through Tuscany and seven gravel road sections. The 13th and 14th stage is respectively a mountain stage and a 50+ km individual time trail. After the second rest day, the 16th stage will begin in Austria. In what is arguably the hardest stage, the riders will finish in Sölden after a very hard finish.
The next stage goes to Livigno, including over the Stelvio Pass. Stage 18 is a transfer stage to Como, before stage 19 that goes through the Aosta valley and finishes in La Thuile, after the climb of Colle san Carlo. The penultimate stage and last mountain stage will finish in Montcenisio after passing Col d'Iseran on the way. The Giro will end with a time trail in Turin.
