Just bought and downloaded the game through the official store, but I can't find any serial number, just an activation code?

no e-mail with the serial number?
With me, steam informed me of my serial number.

No chance that it can be used for both?

Didn't work last time I tried both, but this time it cited an problem connecting to the server, I'm going through the steps to set it up without connecting to it now, to see if it works.
