Team Puma - SAP was founded in 2012 with a clear focus on developing German and Western European talents.
Some high-profile youngsters were indeed signed immediately, first and foremost the puncheur duo of Wilco Kelderman and Mario Vogt and the best German TT talent in Jasha Sütterlin.
The surprise late transfer addition Daniele Bennati proved strong enough to lead the team to the highest division in its first year, two years earlier than anyone could have expected.
2013 started with the acquisition of a highly sought-after Arnaud Demare who is touted a better Peter Sagan than Sagan himself could ever become, alongside further interesting neo-pros like Daniel or Bongiorno.
The German focus wasn't abandoned though and in Dominik Nerz, the best available German stage racing talent arrived.
The season itself was characterized by ups and downs.
Bennati managed to take a monument podium in Milano-San Remo along with four stages in the Giro d'Italia and the new arrival Jurgen Van den Broeck surprised in several shorter stage races.
With a late-season surge by B&O not completely countered due to weaker performances in the closing races, relegation couldn't quite be avoided in the end, but the fight our riders put up impressed many.
The team was always planning long-term with so many talents, so while there was certainly some disappointment, no sponsor saw the need to pull the plug early.
Reinforced with new motivation from every staff member, the team went into the 2014 transfer season with the clear goal of getting the brightest German star talent in at least a decade and it indeed secured the signature of Silvio Herklotz, who will be a focal point of the team for years to come.
The departure of our beloved sprint legend Daniele Bennati was compensated directly in a swap with team manager favourite sprinter Gerald Ciolek.
Leaving the team were former leaders Van den Broeck and Nuyens as well, as the HQ decision was to further invest in talents and use the upcoming season as a transition phase to await the maxing out of several 2012 talents like Kelderman and Bar.
Thus, a lot of cap space was again used on some interesting new riders like Tim Declerq, Jo Kogstad Ringheim or Sebastian Lander.
While the team had the potential to achieve a promotion spot, a weak early season saw us even slipping down into the realms of relegation fears.
Luckily, good performances by Ciolek and Nerz got us out of that zone and we were able to finish the season in a respectable 13th place, which actually was only 60 points away from what should turn out later to be a place granting promotion.
Looking at the present and forward to the 2015 season, both main sponsors Puma and SAP still have full faith in this project and thus will continue their support as dedicated as ever.
And after most teams ahead in the rankings were promoted to ProTour and further talent development in the off-season lead to an even better roster, there is only one goal in the minds of anyone involved in this project:
A convincing promotion campaign back to PT!

Our goals always were built around Gerald Ciolek, and the fact that he was our best rider in all of these races is no surprise.
He achieved what could have been achieved and delivered nicely in Down Under, Eneco and in France.
Our home race and supposed highlight of the season, Berlin ProRace, saw a very weird development and its results were discussed vividly across the division.
Missing this goal was disappointing, but we didn't blame Gerald.
Finally, the standings goal was supposed to be set on the lower side of our expectations, but a disappointing spring put us in a position where 13th overall is a success in the end, and our sponsors agreed on that evaluation.
Overall, achieving 3 of 5 goals and closely missing out on another one is a good result.
We gathered important data regarding next year's goals selection, and we pleased the sponsors enough to ensure their continuing support.
Expect the 2015 goals to be published in the very near future.

The standout performance this year obviously was the one of Gerald Ciolek. He dealt with the pressure rather well and delivered basically everywhere but in his home race (go figure...).
He will continue to be a cornerstone of the team's success.
Dominik Nerz overperformed where he needed to, which was in the second half of the season. We expect him to return to racing even stronger and outscore himself next season.
Wilco couldn't really impress yet, but his off-season stat improvements should definitely ensure that will change next year. We have great expectations in him.
A young talent who actually may have scored more points in his first season than he will in his second comes next in our statistics already: Silvio Herklotz.
There is no need to further introduce him and his potential, and we were delighted to see he already showed a lot of that potential in a few high-profile races. He already rides smarter and stronger than many veterans.
Further down the list, we expected more from riders like Delage, Felline and Vogt. The latter two will continue to develop in the off-season though and they should live up to their expectations again in 2015.
Many more riders in that points region, such as Bar, Lander, Bol, Declerq and Ringheim, will benefit from better stats next season too.
We can definitely look forward to a much improved core, which will be vital to our promotion hopes.

These are the goals for Team Puma - SAP in 2015. Not much has changed, and considering the rather dominant performance of Ciolek throughout the last year, why would that need to happen anyway.
The rankings goal is straightforward: Earn a spot that secures promotion regardless of possible disbandments.
We ultimately aim to fight for the division title, but that risk isn't worth the extra goal point.
If transfers and the season itself go roughly as planned, this goal has to be achieved.
Berlin ProRace has been a goal in all our PCT seasons so far, and that won't change with Gerald Ciolek most definitely staying.
Its last edition was a disappointment for us, so we strive to take revenge this season and win it, and we will ensure to have a dominant sprint train lined up.
For the first time ever, we also set our eyes heavily on the second major German race in this division, Bayern Rundfahrt.
Wilco Kelderman will lead a very strong squad here and should be among the favourites for the hilly stage.
Wilco is a good TTer, especially among puncheurs, but there will be far better ones present, and some of them might be stronger in the TT than Kelderman will be on the hilly stage.
Therefore, going for the win will be a big task, which made us take the safe route and expect a Top 5 of him instead.
With a change in the bonus allocations, Eneco Tour will be an interesting test this season.
We are yet to be sure whether the new points system will benefit Ciolek or possibly hinder him, but we are certain either way that he can repeat his Top 5 performance of 2014.
Our last goal takes advantage of the new rule allowing two races to be targeted, with the ultimate decision only being made after transfers.
As you can see, we didn't make use of this option because we were unsure which terrain to target, as both races are flat and were successfully achieved goals last season already.
The reason for this approach is that Paris-Tours, which we favour over Down Under Classic in a straight matchup, is in our band choice #3 while the latter is in #2.
It is probably highly unlikely that any #3 choice will be rejected this season, but we want to allow for all possibilities.
Being unable to participate in a goal race because we felt too safe in planning could be fatal.
If things go the normal way, expect Paris-Tours to be our final goal for this year.
These 5 goals make us come very close to the maximum possible goal points (22/23).
With a good performance in the goal races last season and this ambitious, but very achievable selection, we hope to have a nice budget available for transfers and training this year as well as 2016

Well it seems that beyond the obvios targets in common, now we will also have some goals in the same races..
But for me there is no problem, I win one stage in Bayern Rundfahrt and you can even win the race, and then I win Eneco Tour and Ciolek can finish second

If trained ever so slightly he should be immense imo... However I am very eager to see how many riders cio have to loan out to stay within his wage cap. There are some very very strong riders in the team, who will probably demand a decent wage.

Plus I simply don't like having to scroll through a whole HQ to find the one important post for my transfer planning or similar.
@fintas: Exactly. Please win the TT in Bayern though, as I plan to win the remaining 4 stages. 
With Eneco Tour, as you see we don't dominate our goals but rather go for the minimum effort necessary..
@aidan: I think there will be enough podium spots for the both of us at all times.

@Count&SotD: I am sorry, but I slightly wonder what you're talking about...
Taking last year's wages, I have 28 riders on 2.590.000€ wage.
Among these are indeed riders like Ciolek, Nerz, Kelderman and Demare who will have increased wage demands, but don't forget I also have guys like Herklotz, Bontenackels and Ringheim who all should do with much lower wages.
Plus, there is no way I will keep all 28 anyway. You'll see exactly who I mean later.
Regarding Ciolek, let's just say he is not my training target #1.

Renewals were tackled yesterday in our HQ, and final decisions were made after round 2 already.
The riders appeared greedier and less interested in compromises than ever, so it didn't went perfectly to plan.
Especially our leaders Ciolek and Kelderman were not easy to talk to and will go into 2015 with nearly tripled wages, but there was not much we could do to convince them to go any lower.
We are not quite sure if they are aware that more cap space means a more competitive team and a better chance for them to ride PT races next year!
Kelderman disappointed us as we made sure to give him the best possible environment to develop all the time since he went pro in 2012.
Luckily, some riders were more accomodating. Herklotz saved us from being over the salary cap, but his wage drop was to be expected just as the ones for Bontenackels and Ringheim, although the latter two still earn too much now in our opinion.
Small surprises were Nerz and Demare who are expected to step up even more this season, yet they will both be on a lower wage than 2014.
Especially Nerz, who came from a great season, was amazing to talk to last night.
Further down the list, we got expected small raises for riders like Lander, Bar, Bongiorno and Daniel, but one rider who really pissed us off was Felline.
Yes, he is a great dual threat now, but he attempted to triple his wage coming from a season in which he scored 37 points, 483 less than Nerz who now earns only €5.000 more!
On the other hand, we are happy that really good riders like Bol, Declerq, Giaux, Sütterlin and Vogt were content with the minimum wage offer we sent them in round 1.
Last but definitely not least, we said goodbye to 3 riders last night.
While Chenaux and Voss weren't able to make a significant impact last season, Sébastien Minard was with us all the way since our team started, and his contributions to our surprise promotion as a very valuable leadout man for Bennati cannot be overstated.
Still, he hit an age in which we can't keep him around considering there are 7 better sprinters in our team right now.
We wish these riders all the best for the future and hope that Minard will find a CT team honoring his experience on the road. We would love to race against him in the future one last time somewhere.
His legacy will live on in our team.
Overall, we end renewals with 25 riders on a combined wage of €2.490.000.
That just kept us out of the costly fee range and should allow us to make one significant move in transfers after factoring in a couple of loans and transfers out.
We are confident that this is a good start into our promotion campaign, we should hopefully be competitive enough to target a Top 5 result in every race we enter.
