From the start I'll state that I'm not a gamer - so bare with me.
However, I really liked the look of PCM having seen it on YouTube and on the website etc.
Looks like a great concept with lots of strategies, and the idea of playing simple stages or complex managing teams also looks great.
However, rather than spend £30 on the new version and find I don't take to it, I bought the PCM12 for £5 (brand new still in wrapping). With great excitement I installed it earlier, and for once there seemed to be no problems there.
However...
Once it came to the front screen the 'cursor'/yellow triangle seems to move slightly slower or more juddery than any normal mouse cursor. First question: that can't surely be the same for everyone - with the technology there is now-a-days, surely they can make the cursor move steadily!?
I didn't mind that too much and so got into a quick race, finding the simplest set-up so I could learn the ropes during a 3D race (the reason I'd bought this!). And that is why we are here:
The cursor/mouse was about 5 seconds behind, which as you imagine caused great frustration trying to put it onto anything which I needed to change. Once I finally worked out how to start the race, the cyclists went off incredibly juddery and as though I was back in 1997 (nothing like I had seen on Youtube/trailers). I couldn't use the cursor and the cyclists slowly juddered their way through the first kilometre before I gave up.
Now I can assume this is no fault of the game (which seems hugely popular), and instead a problem at my end.
So the $64m question for you boffins: how do I fix this so it works like I'm in 2015?!?
I believe my system requirements fit the bill (from the basic knowledge I have), but I have saved the file stating what graphics card etc I have as per one of your forum threads from a system diagnostic test I did.
Before paying for an IT dude to come here to answer the question I thought I'd throw it out to you guys.
Help would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to spending the weekend getting to grips with the game!

Seems your graphics card is just way too slow to process the game. What graphics card do you use?
Inactive due to personal reasons.

Another problem: I think I changed the screen size (?) if that's possible in the settings (?) - I now can't see all of the page so can't click NEXT etc.! Argh!

It says it requires NVIDIA8600 and mine is 9100 so I assumed that's enough?

Yes, that's possible in the settings of the game. If your resolution is 1024x768, then it's gotta be 1024x768

Actually, the 9100 is probably a worse card than the 8600. The first number is the series, while the rest is an indication of the "quality" of the card. So basically, you have a card that is 1 year newer than the 8600 but of lower quality. I am sad to say that it will be difficult to make the game run properly on that card...

Thanks but now I've mistakenly adjusted it, how do I get it back - I can't see the Settings button in top right hand corner to allow me to reset it.
Uninstall and then install the whole game again I guess??!

Thanks for the info: so I guess the next step is trying to figure out if I can buy a Graphics card which is better right? Then get an IT guy to fit it?
Does the PCM14 need an even better graphics card still or would a 8600 suffice both games?
Anybody understand the cursor being slow, or does that not sound familiar at all?

Is there anything to do with having AVG set on or off? Or was that a red herring that I heard?

?
There must be a settings button somewhere, can't remember where in PCM 12, but once you enter PCM it shouldn't be hard to find.
What do you mean with avg on or off?

There is also a config.xml file somewhere in my documents/PCM12/...
Open this one with notepad and you can change the settings like resolution. |

PCM would require more, but i wouldn't recommend a GeForce 8600 either, since its just throwing out money. I don't know if you want to get more into gaming, but if you want to, buy yourself a a new gaming pc including a GTX 560 ti and an i5 2500 non-K. Your hardwarde is that old, that investing in it, is no good idea, in my opinion.
But if you still want to invest, look out for a 8800 GT. It may cost more, than a 8600, but it will be worth it.
But you should know, that buying such an old GPU can be expensive, since those old PC parts are always expensive(f.e. DDR2 RAM).
I hope I could help a bit.
If you have more questions feel free to ask.

Thanks much appreciated Paul!
I'll have to have a think about long-term decisions then.
Is it possible to play PCM on XBOX360 or can you only play TDF (or is it the same game but different name?????)
Not planning on doing any more gaming - really liked the look of this game only.
I'll have a think
Thanks
jh
ps - any ideas why the mouse cursor would be juddery (is that to do with graphics card too??)

You can only play TDF on xbox, and yes, its a different game. I would suggest watching a gameplay video. Maybe its your thing.
The thing with the mouse cursor. I think, its not neccessarily(o god i hate that word) the GPU. It could be that your RAM isnt enough(or your CPU is too slow), because when PCM takes all your RAM or CPU, there is nothing left for the mouse.

okay again thanks for your advice - don't fancy TDF as I like the manager games better, and prefer to play on PC.
looks like a new PC needed then - but it's a minefield in terms of knowing what I need!
Wish me luck!

Just put that and anisotropy on 0 - you can live without them and the an old gfx card can't really handle them. Also make sure that motion blur is on 0 as well, it's even worse than those and a bit annoying for the gameplay as well.
