Kaiku has today announced its sponsorship of a new Cycling team. The daily products company from Spain has pledged to come into the sport until at least the end of the 2017 season. The focus of the team will remain Spanish, particularly Basque riders. The motivation for this move has come since the decline of the Basque team Euskaltel Euskadi. The company believes that it can revive the sport in the area again and make the travelling Basque fans proud once more. In races such as the Tour de France, the fan base for the old Euskaltel team and Basque riders was enormous, with thousands turning out for the stages in the Pyrenees.
“We hope to galvanise the region once again with this team, it is a continual project that will take time to set up. The Sport is a results business now, so we need to make sure we are winning races, especially those close to our area.” Kaiku CEO said.
“We have entered the Sport at Pro Continental level and that takes a lot of commitment. There are number of very good teams in this division and teams that have been around for a long time. We will have our work cut out to get the results and the wildcards that we are looking for. We hope in the riders we have signed and the calibre these riders bring will help us in that sense.” Said the CEO.

Good luck with this! A nice team, although Coquard doesn't have much in terms of a lead out... Should be strong on the climbs though

Kaiku Cycling will make their Cycling debut in the Tour de San Luis in Argentina. We will be sending a squad capable of winning this race overall. "We want to make an early stamp on this sport and show our competitors what we are all about." said the DS.
Team
Stage 1- San Luis to Villa Mercedes
Today's stage is perfect for those sprinters in the peleton. It is virtually a pan flat run to Villa Mercedes. Bryan Coquard has the perfect opportunity to start the season with a win.
After numerous attempts to establish the break of the day. Sven Erik Bystrom went clear on his own. The peleton is only 96 riders strong,so anything could happen.
Despite the efforts of Kaiku mainly, the Norwegian stayed away to take a fantastic solo win in Villa Mercedes. It is a fantastic start to the season for Katusha and the former U23 Champion.
The sprint for second was won by Caleb Ewan ahead of Bryan Coquard.
Stage Result
1 | Sven Erik Bystrøm | Team Katusha | 3h28'57 | 2 | Caleb Ewan | Orica GreenEdge | + 1'08 | 3 | Bryan Coquard | Kaiku Cycling | s.t. | 4 | Brett Lancaster | Orica GreenEdge | s.t. | 5 | Davide Appollonio | Androni Giocattoli | s.t. | 6 | Magnus Cort Nielsen | Orica GreenEdge | s.t. | 7 | Theo Bos | MTN - Qhubeka | s.t. | 8 | Armindo Fonseca | Bretagne - Séché Environnement | s.t. | 9 | Matthew Hayman | Orica GreenEdge | s.t. | 10 | Simon Clarke | Orica GreenEdge | s.t. |

Stage 2- Tilisarao to Terrazas del Portezeuelo
Another chance for the sprinters today in what is a slightly lumpy day. The lone break of Bystrom stayed away in the first stage, the sprinting teams won't want the same to happen today.
It was another lone break on the long road to Terrazas del Portezeuelo. It was the turn of Roompot Orange Cycling Team. Brain van Geothem built a sizable lead over the peleton.
Kaiku began to control the pace on the front with the gap at a dangerous 7"35 with 74.5km to go in this race.
Disaster for Kaiku and the chasing peleton as a crash happened right towards the front. Involved where Spanish riders David Lopez and Sergio Rua, Dutch rider Marc de Maar, Argentine sprinter Ariel Richeze.
Pressure from Igor Anton and Mikel Landa forced a split in the group towards the top of the final climb.
Van Goethem held on to win the stage 34 seconds ahead of a group of 17 riders. Another great solo win in San Luis. No doubt the crash disrupted the chase in the peleton and handed the advantage in the Dutchman.
Davide Appollonio won the sprint for second ahead of Bryan Coquard who finishes third for the second time in succession.
