Hello everyone, here you can see all the stages of Volta 2015. I made the profiles with cronoescalada.com because the oficial profiles are ridiculous, a little climb like montjuic seems Tourmalet or Angliru...
Stage 1
Stage 2
Stage 3
Stage 4
Stage 5
Stage 6
Stage 7
And the maps if someone want to make on the SE...

Good job.
I looked forward to Catalunya (allthough its generally one of the more boring races) due to the many star riders attending, but this route seems boring. More or less only one stage I wanna match here, unfortunately.. |

Yes.. It's shameful that they design this type of routes having a lot of possibilities to an amazing race.. |

Nice preview dude. Personally I never cared for Volta Catalunya, mostly because it's a boring race, badly shown by local TV crew and it's during Dwars door and E3 so my focus switches on those races. Maybe they should move this race to other date like May or early August.
Edit: or just simply downgrade it to 2.HC and give World Tour status to Tour of California. Done.

But the route and the bad broadcast is relatively easy fixable. It easily has potential and obviously attrack ALOT of big GC-riders, it just lacks something. Throw in a timetrial and a couple of interesting stages and you suddenly have a really good race with Contador, Froome, Purito etc.

Sure let's increase focus on this race by clashing it with the Giro And as usual upgrading AToC is not a good idea because then they cannot invite the local US teams that really can make it into an interesting race.
But yeah Catalunya prretty much passes me by without much notice. I'll see who wins but i'd rather be watching the classics

Well it clashed with the Giro until 2009. When becoming PT it was moved to March to avoid a clash.
And I would hate seeing a race like California WT. Just because it`s usually nice to follow and well organized, it does not mean, that WT is good for a race. Imo it`s great due to the fact that it is not WT as this way teams like Bissel, Bontrager etc. are able to race there.
Regarding Catalunya. Sure one of the most boring and uninteresting WT races. Here we agree. |

Of course Volta a Catalunya used to be in a more preferable summer slot. But since they changed it, it has struggled for identity a bit with some many classics and small tours around.
In the summer Volta it was always a mountainous affair but with weather like it is - it really has become a bit more of a hilly one with weather still a bit of a factor.
Has attracted strong startlists though in recent times, though the racing hasn't always been quite as good as we might have hoped for. Dan Martin/Garmins brilliant performances here have been a highlight for me in recent times. They badly need some forward momentum as they have been horrible early doors this year.

Yeah, Catalunya is usually a proper letdown. Great line-up, but dull profiles, very bad coverage and typically not too much going on. Thank god Vuelta a Pais Vasco rescues Spain's honours just a week later. That race is one of my favs.

Why all the hate on Catalunya? I remember when the proposed UCI changes thingy was published, removing Catalunya everyone was up in arms about this but now seemingly no one would care if it disappears
Granted, it's neither the most exciting nor the most intriguing of the WT races but it has still offered us some interest over the past few years, like last year where Purito managed to triumph over the triumvirate of Quintana, Contador and Froome and Quintana's glorious win in the snow that showed us his superiority to Valverde back in 2013 (although admittedly I may be looking through my rosy glasses at this one)
To be fair, the route this year is disappointing, only really allowing us one chance to see a Contador vs Froome battle, here's hoping that Froome has recovered from his cold and we get to see them go mano a mano on the stage to La Molina.
Also, great job on the profiles there Hijo, cronoescalada is an excellent website and those profiles look so much better than the ridiculous official ones.

But yet, as Shonak says, Pais Vasco just massively outclasses Catalunya for reasons stated above. There have been some nice pair of mountain top finishes the last couple of years while the rest of the stages are.. not unwatchable, but close with 2nd and 3rd tier sprinters and nothing really going on. If they just mixed it up with a timetrial and some more hillier stages (alá Pais Vasco) this would clearly be a more watchable race imo.
Im actually a bit surprised so many of the absolute best GC-riders choose this race so its certainly not due to the riders its not as interesting as other races (allthough classic specialists, sprinters etc. downgrade this race for obvious reason).

Here you could see all the climbs from the "king" stage (stage 4)
And here the last climb of stage 3.

I think the big guns like to choose Catalunya (and I guess part of the reason it changed from it's previous summer position) because it is a good chance to train in the pyrenees. I mean you have Suisse, Dauphine for the alps - but this is a good March leg warmer and the roads are usually a bit nicer that Tirreno.
With it being after Milan san Remo and too close to the cobbled races we don't tend to get so many of the hard man classics experts so we do get very controlled racing until the GC guys (who are really here for training) go at it on the hardest stage.
In short it is a good training block for the guys - nice for those preparing for the Giro and/or the Tour and also the Vuelta too. Much nicer than the gnarly Basque race which is really for those targetting the Ardennes classics (i.e not Froome/Quintana)

Nicely summarized Smowz, the Pyrenees and Volta's fairly "undemanding" racing with little possibility of dangerous crashes et al. is probably a good chance for the GT guys to get some racing kilometers and also collect some "easy" WT points cuz of it's fairly one-dimensional racing.
That being said, holy shit that queen stage remarkable excellent and I definitely have to watch that one.
