Clasico RCN
The CT is heading for South America, where the Columbian stage race Clasico RCN goes into it's second edition. This mountainous race did attract some of the very best climbers to start here last season: David Arroyo would then take out the GC ahead of Daniel Moreno.
And of course we could expect a similar strong startlist this time. Three mountain stages (featuring two uphill finishes), two rather difficult hilly stages and a short flat stage will make for an interesting route. Given the amount of ascending kilometres, anything but a climber taking the GC would be a huge surprise though.
The Startlist
The Favorites
Climbers | MO | HI | Puncheurs | MO | HI | Arroyo | 79 | 73 | Godoy | 74 | 75 | Rodrigues | 78 | 73 | Beltran | 74 | 74 | Iglinski | 78 | 73 | Rosskopf | 71 | 74 | Ochoa Quintero | 77 | 73 | Selander | 67 | 74 | Schwab | 77 | 72 | | | | Sorensen | 76 | 74 | | | | Txurruka | 76 | 73 | | | | Kulhavy | 76 | 73 | | | | Castano | 76 | 72 | | | | Alizadeh | 76 | 72 | | | | Moreno | 76 | 71 | | | | Ardila | 76 | 71 | | | | Zurita | 76 | 69 | | | | E Parra Bustamante | 76 | 68 | | | | Raisin | 76 | 67 | | | | Montenegro | 76 | 66 | | | | RodrÃguez | 76 | 64 | | | | Saggiorato | 75 | 72 | | | | Infantino | 75 | 71 | | | | De Greef | 74 | 72 | | | |
It's pretty hard to see past this fight between defending champion Arroyo, the division's superstar Rodrigues and Iglinski. We may add Ochoa Quintero from local team Nutresa to that list and the race looks set for a thrilling battle for the GC-victory. Those four riders alone would make for a elite startlist in this C2 race.
Sorensen, Txurruka, Alizadeh, last year's runner-up Moreno or local heroes like Ardila, Parra Bustamante or Montenegro add some more depth here. We've already seen guys like them fooling the very best, so anything can happen here.
Godoy or an ever dangerous Beltran feature the top of the "more of a puncheur"-list. If those guys deliver big time on that early hilly stage, they may well be a threat for a GC-result as well.
The Sprinters
A few sprinters made it to Columbia, too. But it ain't really a too packed list of fast men, so let's keep it short for this one:
Peeters and maybe LS Haedo should be considered the top-favorites for the third stage. All they need to do is to survive the short, but tricky second day and here you go for a nice chance to score a victory.

Uhh I'm excited for this race. It's my last goal race and also very important for my rankings goal. I hope that Rodrigues will show himself as successful as in all of his other stage races so far (except Burgos). |

Hello win goal!
oh wait...
Goodbye win goal.
Anyway, should be an interesting race and it's our only home race of the season so I'm hoping for (rather than expecting) a good showing from the Alpina boys. Maybe we can finally get some luck going our way in what has been a horrifically unlucky first season.

Our only win year goal this year and the reason i picked this race was because of Arroyo's victory here last year.
If we can win this race that would be a huge step towards the CT-Title as I cant imagine Bonsucro to score big-time here with only the likes of Txurruka and Godoy.
Lets go!

Peeters getting his first win here then? I'd be really annoyed if he finished the season without any win.
De Greef can just do his usual stuff, he usually manages to climb decently.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Ha! If Guillen can finish the Tour of Bulgaria in the top 10 I am pretty sure it is feasible for Txurruka to podium, at least, in this race if has a good run of luck and form, which he hasn't had all season. You do realise 3 points in one stat isn't the biggest difference in the world?
Though based on how this season has gone Kulhavy will probably win this race from a mid stage break and Txurruka won't make the top 10.
Would be nice for Godoy to do something, his only result of note this season has been a podium finish in Armenia.
Regarding the title race, If we don't win, I hope we lose by a huge margin as it would be very bitter to lose marginally after our unprecedented bad luck in ToA.
Hats off to ONCE for where they are in the division, apart from Guillen really, they are a team of nothing but climbers, massive luck aside. Good planning by them or too many mountainous races on the calendar?
As long as we extend our margin back to fourth in this race I will be over the moon.
Thanks for taking up another race tsmoha, so close to the finish now. |

Would love to see Raisin do a top 10 here. Probably will be hard, especially as his more direct competition are a bunch of local riders who will get the national boost. Still, am hopeful. |

Hoping to see some breakaway action on most stages. We shall see if Safarzadeh pulls out another miracle points grab.

Oh...
We just have to do well here.
Come on Moreno, surprise me.
Tons and tons of 76+ climbers here though. ONCE with a crazy lineup.

C'mon rivals, fuck up. Hoping for some random breakaway wins or alternatively ONCE going full retard, as long as my promotion hopes can stay alive.

I'm guilty, too.
I would love to see Txurruka win but I think it is unlikely so a ONCE domination would please me as well.

I hope Sørensen can pull something out for this one - especially seeing as he's also among teh best punchers so with a bit of luck and good tactics he could possible gain a bit of time on the hilly stages to base a good GC.
A very strong field overall though.

Hopefully either Alizadeh or Saggiorato can still manage something despite how packed the field is, a CG top 10 should be the minimum ask from here really if we want to keep our top 10 standings goal alive.

Great start list for a lowly C2 race. Then again, one of the most important for Nutresa being 'home ground. Although clashes with Yekaterinbourg, we have an excellent balance in our line-up, and the 3 Colombians are desparate to show themselves in front of family, friends and fans. With the battle for the CT title so tight, results over the next 6 days of racing could have a significant bearing on the CT Championship crown.
Here's hoping for good weather up in the mountains so the tv coverage properly represents our beautiful country!

Hoping my three Colombian's Parra Bustamante, Infantino and Arredondo can do well here. Some breakaway luck would be nice again.

What a beautiful stage. (The first time I have been over the moon with a result in a while.)
Godoy with his best show of the season, he looked really strong there. He might well be the stage favourite for stage 2, if he could, dare to, go all out for the win there he could have a monster good GC here.

Great ride by Godoy. He almost took the win here and if it was not an Azteca rider who took the win I would have loved this stage
