Another question from me Smile

On the old versions of the game you used to be able to control the default camera with your mouse and use your scroll wheel to zoom in and out.

So far I haven't found a way of doing this on the current game.

Is there a key I need to press at the same time or can I only use the camera options set with the F keys?

Cheers

If you hold your middle mouse button, you can move the camera.
To zoom press ALT and scroll.

Thanks roturn.

I'm getting into the swing of things. First lesson learned is that you can't assume the leaders team will chase down the break. They chased them until they were about a minute ahead and then gave up and let them ride away. Would have won the TDU with Porte at my first attempt if it wasn't for that.

Oh well, he won the GP Costa Degli Eatruschi a few days later to make up for it Smile

Cheers

Breakaways usually save up energy for the final part of the stage. Easy to notice if you have a rider in the breakaway. After getting away from the peloton in the first place everybody seems to be relaying at about 50. The peloton will start to catch up in the second half of the race, often slow down again to not catch the break too soon and then the break will accelerate, dig into the energy reserves.

On flat stages with sprinter teams chasing they will be caught 99% of the time but in hilly or mountain stages, the break stands a decent chance. Just like in real life, the chances of success for the breakaway in one-day races, especially the long classics, is basically zero. The big exception are the national champs, like they've been for years. Maybe you saw that at the Australian nationals, unless you chased the breakaway hard it probably won by 30 minutes.

Nah. Aussie Champs the break got caught (probably because I had Chris Sutton in it Smile)

I'll remember to personally chase down any breakaways when I want to go for the overall win.

I've come up with a few more quick questions Smile

1 - On the previous games I have played there was a ridiculous issue where after 60 race days a riders fitness would begin to be affected. This made it almost impossible for a rider to be competitive at 2 grand tours a year. Is this still the case in this game?

2 - I've not really been watching too much cycling over the last couple of years so this may be a stupid question. In my career I am a British manager managing Team Sky. I was given the choice of Britain or Columbia to manage at the Worlds. Is there any reason why I was given the choice of Columbia?

3 - I understand that the game does not have the licence for all of the teams, including Sky. On the original game Richie Porte is called Morte. However, the commentator still says Porte (or at least porTAY) whenever he attacks. How come the commentator can say his real name if they don't have the license (Unless this is something added by the PCM DB from a sound bite from a previous game?).

Cheers

1. I wouldn't say it is totally unrealistic tbh. But I think it's decreased even though I've never noticed too big fitness level decreases.

2. It's based on the best riders in the team and the team nationality. Since Sky's got British nationality and British best riders, the game must see what are the 2nd best riders, in this case Uran or Henao Wink

3. Yes, Daily DB has added lots of sound comments for loads of riders, Porte is the case as well.

Just to add to matts answer to question 1: The 60 day limit no longer applies. Riders can race a lot more days now without losing fitness. Of course very busy periods of racing reduce their freshness and long periods at peak fitness will increase their tiredness. It's all visible whilst looking at a rider fitness curves

1. Fitness works differently in PCM 2014. Have a look in the official guide (which can be found online or by clicking the link in the game).

3. If you still play with the original database, consider using a real name database or better even, download and install an expansion pack.
But to answer your question: Nobody checks the sound files for licensing issues. I guess it would be hard to prove anyway. If you must, report it to Sky and see what happens.

Me again Smile

I've been looking through my teams schedule but the World Championships don't appear to be showing on the calendar.

Is this correct. If so at what point does the date/route get released.

Cheers

It shouldn't show up on the calendar indeed, you have to go into the National Team schedule in career mode. Also, you have to wait 'till the January 30th, because before then you won't be able to manage your national team. After you've made your choice you can already start all the preselections going on the National Team schedule Wink

Yeah, that's a bit odd. The dates are always the same - 26th of September for the ITT, 29th for the road race. You get a first glance of the route by going to Manager -> National Team after picking a new national team on the 30th of January. It won't tell you where the WC is taking place nor how long the route is, but it'll be roughly 250 km.

Edit: Matt was faster.

I made an example fitness schedule for this question. Will the rider's stamina decrease, because "zmęczenie" (fatigue) is strong in "wrze" (september) ? Or not, because fatigue effect doesn't "touch" stamina column ?

Not at all, Stamina won't decrease unless the rider you're controlling is a very old one and he's getting worse and worse Pfft
What'll actually change will only be the fitness level Wink

I don't understand the tiredness on this screen anyway, it never matches up with tiredness on the other screen (squad -> fitness). The only riders in my team who ever get tired according to the fitness screen are those who race both the TdF and Vuelta, even though in this objectives screen there is no red area until October.

Attached is an example, this rider will get "slightly tired" during the Vuelta, maybe even "tired" at the end of the Vuelta. Too many consecutive racing days in a short period?

Fitness, right, I used a wrong word, sorry Grin
And now, how can I calculate how much fitness is gonna decrease ?

Maybe I'm totally wrong about this, in that case somebody correct me, please. I assume the fitness level can be judged from the top of the green area. So in your example, you reach a peak in March, then another in early May (after LBL!) and then from mid-July onwards your fitness will be lower than at any time earlier in the season, including the drop in early April.

If I'm right then this season planning with the objectives doesn't work very well, especially for one-day races like LBL. You train hard in the week of the race but don't reap the benefits until after the race. So I adjust my training quite a lot after I entered the objectives. Check out this season plan for one of my hilly classics specialists. I reduce the training for the spring classics (Amstel, Fleche, LBL) earlier than the game does, the fitness level is still fine and only starts to drop in May (from 2 for LBL to 5 by the end of May, where I currently am) and it's back up to 2 for San Sebastian.

So, fitness is more important than freshness ? I assumed the opposite and planned season so that my riders are absolute fresh in most important races for them

Lachi
The higher the fitness, the better the performance.
Bad freshness and fatigue can only reduce the performance.

Ripley
I try to take into account all the factors, fitness, tiredness, rhythm and freshness. I'm not really happy with the freshness, it can go from excellent to bad from one day to the next, which doesn't make sense. Best to select a race as an objective, that usually guarantees excellent freshness.
