Round 1
I would like to apologise about the jerseys, as quite a few of them are incorrect.
We begin the competition in Great Britain with a puncheurs course, Today the winner will be decided by the fastest men up short steep hills and the favourites include Gilbert, Valverde, Gerrans, Kwiatkowski, Rodriguez, Costa, Sagan, Betancur, Nibali, Van Avermaet, Mollema, Kreuziger and Ullisi. 21st is a position most likely to be won by a more pure climber, or a sprinter who is allright on the hills, but anything can really happen.
The race and the competition begins in Exmouth, 177km until the finish line of this stage.
Mugerli (Yolo) begins the day, sprinting from the start, Henderson (StarCraft), Renshaw (Kiwis) and Haller (Al Fozan) are right on his wheel.
The break is caught! but Henderson, Renshaw and Haller look like they want another go!
Henderson, Renshaw and Modolo succeed in getting away, they have 1 minute and 30 seconds on the bunch.
Our first casualties, De Maar (RGiBC) and Bennet (Novo-Banco) hit the deck, but they get back up and don't seem to be nin pain, the break now have 5 minutes 30 seconds and we have 115km to go.
100km left and the break's lead peaks at 6 minutes 40 seconds, Yolo are setting a fast tempo in the peloton.
50km left for the break! but they only have 3 minutes on the peloton.
40km left and Sagan goes, it might be a bit early, the break still have a minute and 30 seconds.
Just seconds later Rodriguez decides to follow Sagan.
Renshaw decides that he doesn't want to work with the rest of the break, so he attacks, it's unlikely that they'll let him stay away.
Renshaw is caught and the peloton almost has them, so Modalo goes! 30km left. Sagan and Rodriguez still hang on between the groups.
Most teams are out of riders to chase, Valverde, Quintana, Costa and Evans are doing the work.
Sagan and Rodriguez practically catch Henderson and Renshaw as Kwiatkowski and Valverde attack! 20km left and Modolo has a minute left.
The favourites stretch their legs in a move that brings Kwiatkowski up to Modolo, sorry for the confusion, we'll have the time gaps soon.
Sorry for the confusion, as we hit 10km to go we can explain the race situation: Kwiatkowski-8 seconds-Gilber-12 seconds-Modolo-10 seconds-Gerrans- 13 seconds- Valverde-20 seconds-Nibali, Sagan, J.Rodriguez, Mollema, Costa and Betancur-30 seconds-Ullisi, Contador-10 seconds-the peloton. Every team except Al Fozan, Exxon and RGiBC have a rider up front.
We cross the finish line for the first time, meaning 7.4km left. Gilbert has reached Kwiatkowski as Gerrans, Modolo and Valverde are just behind, they are followed by the Sagan group, then Ullisi and Contador, with the peloton 1 minute 30 seconds behind them No-one is chasing!!! 21st is Quintana at the moment, but it is likely to change because it's in the peloton.
Gilbert Goes!!! He sees Kwiatkowski weakening and takes advantage of the moment, Gerrans has just about reached Kwiatkowski and Valverde cataches Modolo behind.
Don't discount this group, they have just reached Modolo as Valverde has another go at catching Gerrans and Kwiatkowski, but they can see Gilbert just ahead of them, they are Rodriguez, Ullisi, Costa, Betancur, Mollema, Sagan, Contador and Nibali! 4km left for Gilbert up front!
Gilbert hits 1km left, it looks like he'll make it!!!
Sorry about the interface.
Gilbert wins Round 1 of 21 Ways to Lose a Race!!!
Gerrans launches a sprint for seconds, Kwiatkowski and Valverde follow!
Kwiatkowski edges out Gerrans for seconds, Valverde takes fourth.
Nibali takes 5th, then team-mates Contador and Modolo, 6th and 7th respectively, great work by Modolo today, he spent it all in a break but held on for 7th.
Mollema sprints into 8th, followed by Rodriguez, Sagan, Costa, Ullisi then Betancur, next is the peloton, who will be 21st?
11 minutes later the peloton reaches the final kilometre, Kittel leads the sprint for 14th, followed by his team-mate Degenkolb.
Kittel takes 14th.
Degenkolb takes 15th behind his teammate, next is:
16th: Cadel Evans
17th: Eduardo Supelevda
18th: Mark Renshaw
