If there is ever a race for the sprinters then the Berlin ProRace is surely it. Virtually flat from start to finish, it is expected that a mass sprint will decide the victor in this HC. race.
Race Favourites:
| | FLAT | SPRINT | ACC. | | Ciolek | 75 | 83 | 79 | | Vantomme | 73 | 82 | 78 | | Cavendish | 73 | 82 | 81 | | Goss | 74 | 82 | 78 | | Vanderbiest | 74 | 81 | 77 | | Van Staeyen | 76 | 81 | 77 | | Maksimov | 72 | 81 | 84 | | Holloway | 78 | 80 | 82 | | Corioni | 74 | 80 | 76 | | Greipel | 74 | 80 | 78 |
After a recent victory in the Melaka Governor's cup, in similar terrain against similar opposition, Ciolek starts as favourite for a team where anything but a win is unacceptable. However, Team Puma - SAP certainly don't bring the strongest lead-out to support the home favourite and therefore may struggle to control the race in the final.
Venchi - Ferranti will be looking to follow up their win at Race Horizon Park, Van Staeyen should be there or thereabouts if there is a bunch sprint and he is abily supported by Corioni and Van Avermaet.
BelarusBank Pro Cycling rode a great race in Malaysia, however, Cavendish couldn't finish it off, will he fare better here with a pan-flat run in?
Oz Cycling Project will expect Goss to finish on the podium, but there are plenty of sprinters who are more than capable of challenging for a top3 here.
The Rouleurs:
| | FLAT | STAMINA | | Maes | 80 | 79 | | Vaitkus | 78 | 74 | | Del Nero | 78 | 78 | | Nuyens | 77 | 76 |
These riders will be prominent in the racing at the end of the race if hard conditions arise. All four have already proven they can attack late on in stages and may well feature in Berlin.
Boeing-Bulgaria Bicycling and Gazelle simply have to make the breakaway as it is unlikely they will do anything, top20, in the sprint.
In this HC. race we only see pro-continental teams take the startlist.
We leave you with the startlist and the fact that:
- 31 riders here have 78 or higher in sprint!

Sprinter win!
Ciolek for me to win this I hope. Home classic.
Greipel would be a nice bet as well.
And last but not least Vantomme, who would be my 3rd favourite.
I like this race a lot. Usually try to be at the road side for the annual event and this might even be my created version in case it`s not Bigggasssi`s version. |

Should be a ridiculous race. I don't expect much, Top 5 would do.

Our obvious win goal this season.
No Meiji in this band was the best news of HC selection, so with the home bonus, a straight sprint should really have a promising outcome.
That said, sprint train. Well I don't see 73/75/75/73 flat and 74/75/76/77 sprint leading out Ciolek as bad as the preview puts it.
Holloway is worse off, Vantomme is worse off, Cav not really better, Goss is worse off, Vanderbiest does have Docker indeed, Privatbank lives for good trains but can hardly assemble their strongest one, granted that Maksimov has a fine one, and let's not talk too much about Venchi anyway.
We should be equipped well enough, and if the often rumoured case of the best three sprinters getting trains is true, we are tied best among 82+ riders.
Of course, 31 good sprinters doesn't mean a lot as we all know 15 of those won't even sprint.
Still, that should hopefully mean enough interest in a bunch finish, fuck up the AI completely for the rest of the season if you want, but not here please.

Top 5 race goal for us, so that is what's expected. I'm really hoping a breakaway doesn't win this. That would be a damper.

Brought 4 of the 31... Would be shocked if none of them could get some sort of a result...
If we happen to make a train (unlikely) I hope Kobe won't fuck us up (unlikely). If we don't make a train we could well get 4 guys in the top 15... Or we could see Vaitkus trying a solo... Or if a break should make it, I hope either Lima or Abakoumov is in it...

AMEXpc's history of success in sprint classics has been miserable. We have little chance of success with the PCT's top sprinters all on the starting line. We do need to see some progress. Two of our young sprinters are Germans (Selig & Reinhardt) along with them is a solid flats domestique Kurth and two cobblers Eisel & Breschel.
Our top sprinter Paride Grillo (ESP) is on good form but he has not shown he can explode out of a pack to challenge for PCT level podiums. Our goals are simple (1) Keep Grillo in contention to the final 3 kilometers and hope he can tag along on one of the better sprint trains.
Our 2nd goal is get someone in the day's breakaway in the hopes they can steal a finish away from the sprinters. Matti Breschel rides the flats well and has the stamina and the sprinting to do damage if he gets into the breakaway. Here's hoping!

I disagree with you because the Down Under Classic had an excellent AI and a fair winner

This is basically a training ride for us. But you never know; we might get lucky with some breakaway success.

That might have cost us promotion next season with the budget points lost there. If we even stay PCT. I'm so done with 13. Anyone wants my sprinters? Yard sale.

I can't be sad since Vantomme failed anyway
Shame about the AI though...ridiculous. But dayum Heinkenen always seem to pick the right breaks, even when having a favoruite in the race. I wish my riders did that more too xD
Sucks for Puma, missing a goal completely is never nice..

I'll take Demare and Bar!
Shit luck there cio, as someone with experience of misfiring sprinters I feel your pain. This AI is horrible.
20 pprd for us here isn't bad - although I'd have liked Sandakelum, Carsi or Altanzul in the break instead of Boroš. Still, I'll take it in a race where I expected to struggle. |
