Thought I'd make the thread as no one else has yet
A poorly designed stage, with the same boring old climb in it that is far enough away from the finish not to make any impact on the race, with the race winner decided ages ago. Yes it's the final mountain stage of the Tour. What more could you ask for?
Whole stage broadcast on Eurosport I think, although why you'd want to watch the first 80kms or so I have no idea.

Can you only get to Hautacam from Pau?
Only place that ever seems to be the start town when Hautacam is climbed.

I think thats the only possible way to make a stage with Tourmalet in it, you can also start the stage in Tarbes

I hope one from the favourite group should be able to win this. Tinkoff, Ag2R, Francaise des Jeux and Astana all have decent chances of winning at Hautacam, so they should be able to control the race to Tourmalet. Especially the french teams should be interested in a stage win.
We will probably see some random guy from either Ag2R or Francaise on the bottom of Hautacam, but halfway through its business. I dont know how hard the climb is compared to others, but it will all come down to how hard they goes. 7,8% is much though, more than I expected.
Valverde will do everything to defend his podium. Maybe he will fall to 3rd or even 4th, but if he doesnt lose 1.30-2.00 to Pinot, he should be able to get on the podium. Movistar will probably send guys in the break again (Intxausti maybe) to be safe if Valverde have a bad day and gets dropped on Tourmalet like in 2008. Else they can duke it out on Hautacam, but I would be disappointed not to see one of the GC-guys tacking the last MTF.
Oh, and another thing to watch is the times on Hautacam compared to 1996 and 2008. Just rewatched Hautacam, Saunier Duval was ridicolous, holy crap. Not to mention good, old Bjarne!

I wonder if LeMond is blind or i didnt hear good but saying that Van Garderen has better chances to be at the podium than Peraud I think he already forgot Peraud is better TTler than Pinot and Maybe Valverde other than that he has been climbing better than Van Garderen and will be probably putting some more seconds on him today again |

I have a feeling Nibali wants this last mountain win so he wont let anyone get to big a gap in a break.
So im betting on Nibali. With Majka close by to secure his polkas.

Izagirre, Herrada, Kadri, Boom, Oss, De Marchi, Marcato, Ladagnous, Guillou, Bakelants, Coquard, Voeckler, Reza, Wyss, Chavanel, Machado, Huzarski, Simon, Nieve, Trofimov - all in a breakaway. 120 kms to the finish, around 2:40 advantage for them.

Izaguirre just cant get enough, lol. Good move as we have seen in the past how the 10-15 km rather flat between Tourmalet and Hautecam can be used, either defensively or offensively. And of course, if the possibility for a stage win presents itself, what it doesnt like look it will today. Astana seems rather determined and will probably invite Tinkoff to the front.
