Welcome to Holland for the Cauberg Classic.
As the name indicates this race features the almost mythical hill Cauberg, famous from its appearances in the Dutch semi-classic Amstel Gold Race. This one is for the C2 riders though.
It's up and down for the entire 189.7 kilometres stretch and to simplify things for the riders they will litterarily only have to go up or down with bascially zero flat roads to negotiate. Pure logic calls that a simplification. Oh well.
Make no mistake though, it does not take a simple rider to win it. With a total accumulation of roundabouts 2,700 vertical metres throughout it takes power and will to keep going.
Who has that? There's actually not a whole lot of riders to choose from. The field consists of only 61 riders, but there's a few very tough nails in-between.
The top-favourites must surely be Dietmar Mehr-Wenige and Pieter Weening from the dominant Gazelle, who also have Westra and FBD Eire Tour winner Minnard here. Other riders deserving a mention are Vorganov, Chaoufi, Niemiec, Magna and exciting Brit Appleby from ANC.

Gazelle looking strong, but Mehr-Wenige should also stand good chances. Good to see the Cauberg included in a C2 race anyway, the smaller teams should get the opportunity to ride on the famous climbs more often.

Top five goal here, so it's imperitive we get a great result. Chaoufi needs to fire and produce a better performance than in Phosphatiers.
Gazelle have a win goal here iirc as well, so they need to win. I fancy Mehr-Wenige though. |

Surprised to not see Iberia here. The presence of Mehr-Wenige, who strangely has been absent from most of the C2 hilly races this season, does make up for that though. We need to win and it will not be easy.
The other teams will probably let us do most of the chasing, making it hard for Westra and Furdi to try something in the final. So it's all up to our leader Weening, who is not really a killer when it comes to finishing first. Let's hope the Dutchness of this race inspires him.

The race that marks the return of Mehr-wenige for his antepenultimate race of the season ...
Team Gazelle is clearly the favorite and set more prepared to dominate the race, the question is whether the pressure to assume the costs of the race will not damage the hopes of victory. For us, the podium is the minimum acceptable but will be very difficult ..

Goal missed, and promotion rivals all do really well... a terrible race for us. September has been terrible for us, promotion seems to be slipping away.
Thanks for the report niconico |

Not the victory, as I expected but 2nd place is nevertheless a good result. Soto Pereira in top10 is also a good result ... Overall it was not the best race but with my team could not ask for better.
Congrats to magna and tanks for the report niconico

As always... Entire team up front, failing to get the tacticts right...
Instead of Kononenko, Fonte should've been that midrace attacker... But I can't complain, some very valuable points gained here.

Ouch, some not so clever team tactics from Gazelle. That doesn't take away the fact that Ilias was brilliant though. He really deserves that win; congrats!
Despite scoring a decent amount of points, this is a disappointing result. We could have gotten a perfect 5 out of 5 goals reached this season if we had won this like we should have. Not even reaching the podium in our home race is painful.

Yay Ilias!
He's been a fun rider to have this year because while he might not always have the most success, he at least attacks and makes things interesting (which is of course more fun to follow).
Thanks for the report niconico!
