Hi!
I started this game when I was about 15-16 yrs old. I had been playing a Little bit of PCM 2005 and demos of the previous games.
I bought the game PCM2006 and started playing. My first career was with credit agricole. I Think I had two victories in the whole season.
Years Went on and I became more and more fascinated with the game, at the same time I tried to make it as a pro in cycling in real Life.
During periods of my early 20: s I sometimes had lots of spare time, which I filled up either with training or sitting by the computer. I didn´t realize that you can be addicted even though you otherwise have a healthy Life.
This year (Im 24) in the summer I got a breakdown. I had trouble sleeping, and thinking about any other thing that the game. I could sit sometimes 10-11 hours without problems. One day, when my parents were visiting me and I felt really, really low, I automatically said: "
I have so much cycling statistics in my head. I don´t know what to do with it" and my breath started increasing. I burst out with tears and realized that my behaviour and relationship to this game wasn´t in any way healthy.
It might be, if you use it as sort of relaxation or relief. But not if you play many hours in a row.
I was away from the game for about two months, but last week it triggered again and I started playing. And just as I thought, I played too much with no idea how to stop.
Anyhow, I was in my 7th season with what started out to be saxo bank-tinkoff (now Gazprom) and I decided to stop the game when I finished that season. I didn´t write any new contracts and just did my best with what was left of the game. In my last season I won e3-prijs, tour of flanders, paris-Roubaix, LBL, Giro, Dauphine, tour de Suisse, tour de france, vuelta a espana and gp de montreal. On extreme ofc. I won the giro, tour and vuelta almost every season and I´ve been playing this career since january, with some breaks. This last season took me less than a week to play (!)
I´m not saying you guys should stop either. Just Think if for a moment if the game Controls you, or if you´re in Control of when you can play. Might seem like a cliché, but there´s truth in it.
I will in a day or two uninstall the game and put the box in my shelf. I want to spend more time with the things I really want to progress in (acting and dancing). I hope you guys don´t have the same problems I´ve had with this game. I both hate it and love it. But I´ll never be able to play it again. I have had almost as much success as possible with this game, so that won´t be triggered. You know, to do better than last career.
This is it, and I´m not looking back!
Thank you for Reading

Thanks for sharing.
Sounds like a classic case of addiction as they usually look. Be it to drugs, alcohol, gambling, PCM or something completely different. Fortunately I'm not quite that far out, but it's important that people are aware that sometimes a hobby can get out of hand and become a problem.

Well, that sucks.
I don't have that at all actually.
Though it might happen starting tomorrow, but with GTA
Good luck with your acting & dancing!

Good luck recovering. I had it worse years ago, from 16-21... way too much computer time.
Good thing to try to do more with friends believe me you'll like it more.
PCM is fun, but in moderation, like all things |

Well nice to hear you could overcome this on your own. I've known people that have had similar problems with Football Manager.

It's nice that you realized it before you go completely to waste. For me it never happens though...I'm usually not motivated to play PCM and it takes me a year irl to advance a year in PCM.

Well I've been there for about 2 years and I have no motivation to stop as I forgot what it's like to live primarily in the real world rather than PCM.

It helps if you don't have an OP team, you lose motivation after awhile.

thx for the comments. It´s going very well, mostly because I did got a good end to it, I achieved so much that it wasn´t much left of it. It´s easy to replace the game by still sitting at the computer but maybe watch movies as a substitute instead, but I´m working on it. Seems like you´re not as freaky as I am when it comes to this game. That´s good I guess |

One suggestion.
What ever you do, don't ever play World of Warcraft. |

Well, there are a lot of things that people gets addicted to. I'm an avid gamer and nearly went on that threshold almost 10 years ago.
PCM is a very nice game, but sometimes "boring" strikes and won't touch PCM for almost a month.
Good thing you overcome your challenge. Why don't you cycle in real life? That's better.

Maybe the site owners would consider placing a link to an addiction advice centre.... |

Wow, deep post mate, good that you let the people from PCM community know, it can solve the possible problems for someone, big thumb up from me to you.
I was also addicted to pcm, especially with PCM2008-2010, i was playing like ten hours a day sometimes and i had a big problems in school and also health problems, because lack of sleep.
Fortunately for me, i dont have much time for it now and most important, Cyanide is so kind to me and release every year the shittier game, so no problems with addiction, rather problem to have motivation to even play.
So for me no end of addiction, but end of being PCM player, i am pretty sure i am not buying next game and i will give or sell PCM13 to anyone interested already. I will stay in touch with the game through MG here.

I had that type of addiction with CS 1.6 , CS:S , CS:GO , and that was really serious. As you said, i could sit 15 hours without problem, playing it without stopping. A month ago, i decided to delete all types of Counter Strike, and suddenly 400GB was free on my Hard Drive. All of that files for CS, demos bla ,bla , made game 399 gb's bigger - that's best way to show you how much addicted i really was.
Now , i am successfuly "recovering" , but , to be honest , i am still spending too much time on computer, about 4-5 hours per day. I need to reduce that to about 2 hours per day, and that will be perfect. I stopped training basketball , and one of my main reasons was (this is funny , but ye, it's true) that i didn't have enough time for CS. Now , i started again table tennis, and i really hope i am going to be back in form that allows me going on National Championships again (4 years ago was my first time). Still , i have to spend more time with my friends (group of 5-6 good friends) from Monday-Friday, since we're together almost whole weekend.
Huh, it's somehow easier now, when i said all i had in my head.

I was a cyclist, but I thought too much of the terms of if my form was in red, orange, yellow or green (you know, just like in the game) and too much of my weaknesses and strength. Like: "Am I a good sprinter, hill specialist, climber or breakaway specialist?
I also got sick of traveling so far and race so seldom, cycling is not very big here in Sweden. It´s not like I am not fit. I have very good health and work out almost every day, but as I´ve written the game got the control of me and I didn´t realize it.
Love to see your comments and thx for the encouraging words!
I was also addicted to CS, just like admirschleck. But that was in 2003.
It has been easy to let go of the game, much thx to the fact that I don´t feel that I have undone anything i it, and that the real cycling season is almost over. But I still need to reduce the amount of hours in front of the computer. My dad had to deal with the same problems for a couple of years ago, but in Flight simulator games instead.
