When I play flat stages on PCM13 it occured to me that the breakaways are very very difficult to catch. And I wonder if this happens to some of you as well?
I wanted to win some stages in TDU (stage 1,4 and 6 are flat and shouldn't be no problem at all for a bunch sprint) with Greipel so I chased the breakaway down together with some other teams. The gap slinks very quickly to somewhere near a minute but from then it becomes nearly impossible to real it in. So I put my entire team to 90-95 effort (good flat guys like Sieberg, Hansen, Kaisen and Roelandts so that can't be the problem) and I make up something like 2 secs per km. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong so I check out the breakaway and they are riding at 60 km/h (!) after 150 km in the breakaway and with HEADWIND. That's something I haven't seen any rider doing, not even Cancellara can pull this off in real live.
This is very annoying if you're aiming for a sprint. Nearly every flat stage I played so far ended with the breakaway getting the victory. I replayed most of them to try to take a win and if I was lucky I could get the breakaway on 2-4 km from the finish, but I really had to empty my whole team for that. I can't even imagine the huge fatigue will cause on sprinter's teams in GT's.
