Since I haven't seen it before, here's a thread for athletics. I don't know how many people are interested in it, but there must be more than just me.
Which disiplin interests you the most, are you going to any of the competitions, do you have a favourite, etc.
Personally I'm a big fan of Kenenisa Bekele and have been ever since I started following running. This is partly why I got into long distance running.

I refuse to let my baby die.
There is apperantly a major doping scandal heading this way right before the 2013 World Championships. Some 30 athletes from Turkey is under strong suspicion of doping after sine recent tests. The results have been described as "shocking" and among the sucpects are several medal-winners in different disiplins.

I will ot let this thread die either! I only saw it just now so excuse me on that point!!!
As you may have figured from my activity in the Runnersthread, I am mainly interested in the sprint distances...
First off: Germany's top sprinter (2nd on the alltime time list in Germany) Julian Reus has defended his german national title over 200m in Ulm last weekened, while also winning the 100m... Oh and in both races he ran A-Standards for the World championships, so hell be competing in the 100,200 and 4x100m disciplines...
In other news, Brian Gregan was quickest in the semi-finals in the 400m's at the Universade, while Jessie Barr qualified for the final in the 4hurdles. Both will also be representing Ireland in Moscow!
And as for the news in turkey: I am not surprised. After the russians have scaled down in vast numbers, there was inevitably gonna be a nation that will be the focus of fishy doping results. Wouldnt be surprised if quite a few of those suspicisous results came from the throwing disciplines... Oh and several of the runners that won medals in the Euros last year...

Didn't Yanit, aswell as some other runners/throwers test positive not a long time ago?
It's a bit shocking to see that India apperantly has 52(!) athletes currently out with a suspencion, ahead of Russia with 44, all due to drug related incidents.
55?! Come on, India! I mean, atleast Russia won something!

Prepare to be schocked:
If Blake or Fraser-Pryce ever turn in a positive test, theyll be banned for life, as it will be their seciond stike! Both have been nailed for Diuretic and Masking Agent use before (same as Campbell-Brown now...)

Is there any sprinter we can trust?
I am starting to think the doping problems in athletics are much worse than in cycling...

4 more Jamaicans aswell. Is there some kind of new test? Or a reason to clean up before the WC?

It might be that they suddenly turned the screw? When they finally got to testing runners training in the Rift Valley a flurry of athletes tested positive, apperantly.
I'm starting to mentally prepare myself for a positive test from the big man himself...

They're blaming a new food complement.
Apparently it's 2 sprinters, not sure if makes or females, who won Olympic gold (doesn't say if it's London only or Beijing as well). Blake wasn't there, so it's two to pick among Shelly-Ann Fraser, Usain Bolt, Nesta Carter and Michael Frater.
So much for the "do you also blame Bolt because he dominates ?" argument among Sky defenders. |

I think this threat great and i'll for sure be a part of keeping this alive! My favourite athletes are Greg Rutherford and Mauro Vinicius da Silva.. as noticed maybe, i love long jump and triple jump competitions!
But to continue a bit...
There has been a doping problem in Athletics for a longer period of time than in cycling..
"Doping" have found place in sports since the time of the greeks, where athletes at one point started to eat massive loads of meat and protein to gain an advantage on their opponents. It's a problem in all sports, but some federations just have a bigger interest in hiding the truths of their stars! Which is really sad when you, like me, hate the way people talk about cycling and athletics!!
But as long as sports at this level exists, doping will exist aswell... It's simply impossible to endure for the human body, and to achieve the constantly rising expectations of us, the spectators.. |

If any of those are doped it's going to be a major, major blow for Jamaican sprinters. If that's the pick, I'll go with Fraser-Pryce and either Carter or Frater. Bolt is odd; his results says that he is the most likely one to be doped, but still there is something about him.

From what I've read so far, Asafa Powell is one of them.

They are much worse, only the media is pretty silent about them. Remember the Belarussian shemale that won gold in London with shotput? Positive, but nearly no attention.... Remember the '88 sprinters (7 of the 8 in the final, with Ben Johnson as the biggest scapegoat), remember Marion Jones? Remember the systematic dope abuse by the Eastern German and Russian athletes? Remember Florence Griffith? Remember those recent Kenians? Remember almost every athlete?? Absolutely a bigger problem than in cycling!

Richard Moore's book was so depressing. I don't know how Johnson's not committed suicide in the 25 years since.
