Monterey serves up a new addition to the Continental racing scene – the 1.1 rated Team Time Trial. The point scoring works rather differently to the regular classics and the chances to really profit here is much higher. Despite that, there are only ten different teams who have turned up and of those 2 of them are from the Continental teams. So let’s see who has made the trip.
Without a doubt Oz Cycling come in with all of the pressure on their shoulders. They have consistently been the top time trialing team in the PCT. They are lead by no less than the World Champion Michael Rogers but they go much deeper than that with riders like Michael Ford and Miles Olman. Anything less than a win would surely be a disappointment.
On paper Metinvest-Emirates are probably the second best team here. Sebastian Lang, Haijun Ma and Sergiy Lagkuti are their three leaders and there are no weak spots on this team, so they should certainly be able to put in a challenging time.
The Canadian team Alstom – RBC have brought another strong team here. Sebastian Ivars and Canadian TT champion Christian Meier lead the team and interestingly Jeremy Roy, the team’s puncheur, is also here. There are a couple of short and not particularly difficult climbs here and perhaps that was the reason for his inclusion?
After these three there are several other teams who will be hoping for a strong result here. Tinkoff come here lead mostly by Vasili Kiryenka and, though they don’t have any standout starts, they also have a solid team of third tier time trialists. On the opposite side of this equation are Jaguar, who will rely mostly on Ian Stannard and Andrew Tennant to put in the hard yards.
Team WWE are another team without any big leader but lots of solid TTist. They will be hoping to outperform the Ruben Plaza and Pedro Nicacio dominated Prio-Porto team. VolksWagen will also be trying to match these two, but they have a couple of weak links in their team who could well struggle to go the distance.
Perhaps not surprising in the test of a team’s strength the last two teams to be mentioned are Adira Isq-Project and Boeing–Vviacom. The former might well be competitive against one or two other teams while the latter would be thrilled with anything better than last, I am sure.

I do not know what to expect from my team here ... Already guaranteed at least 20 points but if we could win more it would be optimal .... everything that is not the last place will be good

Last = Points, so i will always be happy with this result Finally found something Bakari can score points in! Really looking forward to this
Oz really have to win though, anything else kind of is a failure. Will be very interested to watch Metinvest and Alstrom as well

Looking at the startlist, there is no excuse for losing out on the win. No offense to the other teams, but if we don't win, no one of this Ozzies will get a contract next year

Surprised to see us as "second seed, i expected stronger teams. Podium would be nice, Oz should be clear winner. At least good points are guaranteed.

Top 5 would be too demanding so we're focusing on beating Volkswagen and WWE for 6th. Anything outside the 6th-8th range would be a surprise. Oz seems unreachable for everyone else so I'm picking them to win.
Looking forward for some easy points whatever the outcome though

That's what i wanted to see a bit nervous after first check, but still never looked in real trouble after that. Even if its not too many points here, a win is always nice, especially with the pressure here. Should haved set my season goals more clever
And of course, it can't be said too often: your reports, and TTs in particular, are outstanding, Count! Love the way you manage to make a trimetrial worth following closely, especially as its my favorite type of races this year So huge thanks for this great work!

I am quite pleased with the performance of my team, the goal was not to be the last that the 7th overcomes this very purpose. 30 points turns out to be very good considering that this was a feature race.
The month is over, now only running back in the Tour de Pologne and by the end we will have just another presence in racing C1 so the points should begin to increase
Thanks for the report Count
