GP Tokyo Preview
June 15, 2013 : Asia C2 : Japan
It's the 1st edition for this sprinter's classic taking place in Tokyo, the heart and capital of Japan. Not only can the Japanese create futuristic technology but they can also design very lengthy routes to challenge even the best sprinters. At 262kms it's the longest C2 classic of the season and it scared away some of the best sprinters in the division. So let's take a peek at the riders that are willing to take on the challenge and are looking forward to a long day in the saddle:
Since Japan is such a nationalistic country I will start with the home favourites.
Peeters and Manan
However, the problem is neither of them are Japanese they are just the team leader's for the two Japanese teams. Will be interesting to see if the home crowd has any effect on helping their local cycling teams have success.
Now to the heavy favourites:
Hochmann/Abakoumov
Awang/Haider Anuawar
Speirs/Demare/Belletti
Sonnery/Averin
It's hard to separate who might shine out of this group as they are all very close to the same talent level. However a few things to put out, Evian has the best team out of the group with all their riders above 73 sprint while Abakoumov and Belletti have the best stamina out of the riders list above, also at 73.
Speaking of stamina, the best out of the sprinters is Nooytens (76).
Also with high stamina that can't be forgotten are:
Abdallah
Sutton
Schinker
Oh and somehow Drapac and Ciocan still haven't been mentioned as they round out the team leader's for this lengthy but hopefully eventful classic.

A very weak field here, hoping for a top 5 from Schinker to keep the points coming in. |

Rooting for CJ Sutton once more - though I would also be pleased to see Haider make a decent placing.

So am I.
Need a good result now. CJ has been my best rider so far, so I hope he can get another good result.

Something tells me Awang won't survive and it will be Haidar Anuawar leading the sprint for us.
Hopefully at least one of the two of them will be able to get a decent placing out of it as we could use the points towards the Asian Ranking.

Have brought my "breakaway" squad here, and Nooytens with his valuable flat and stamina if it was to be windy. Obviously hoping a breakaway can salvage this race for us. |

I have a feeling that a break may succeed in this race.
Otherwise we could get a good result? Who knows with our sprint team....

Congrats to Die Berg. Abakoumov falling was really unlucky, but Hochmann more than made up for it.

Drapac! Man, he is doing great recently. And our C2-trips seem to pay off, maybe the only good thing i did when planning the season so pretty happy we got points here, as Evian once again did the same! You're doing too good atm, jph
Thanks for the report, Mre! I would congratulate Die Berg, if their manager would care

Ooooh, great try by Nooytens and Bakienga, but 3 in top 20 is still better than I expected, so quite happy with the race |
