Welcome to Germany for the Berlin ProRace. 186 completely flat kilometres, there is no doubt that the big sprinter teams will control this one.
3 star favourites are Vantomme, Napolitano, Roelandts, Kennaugh and Hoffman.
Lane, Cruz, Prevar and Lecuisinier are the first riders to attack.
But an attack from Voskelnans brings them back.
Schachmann and again Lecuisinier are next. They get joined by Prevar and so the break is formed.
Their lead over the peloton quickly rises over 4 minutes as Breschel falls. Luckily he has no troubles getting back to the peloton.
The early work in the peloton is shared by most teams. Bpost, Armavia, Sram, Evian, Amex, Prio and Tinkoff all help out.
Worth noting is that Mezgec and Keough are already working. Isn't it a better idea to save them for the leadout?
100 km left for the escapees. Their lead which topped just under 8 minutes has been brought back to 6'20 as the pace in the peloton is turned up.
Evian, Amex and Prio are now doing all the work behind.
Remco Broers is the first to jump out the peloton with 45 km left. Chasing him is Russian timetrial talent Vorobev.
The pace in the peloton gets higher and higher entering the last 30 kilometres. High winds stretch out the pack. Some important names sitting at the back are Santos, Kip, Weylandt and Drapac.
Vorobev and Broers worked well together for 20 kilometres but couldn't close the last 30 second gap to the breakaway. They then see that it's of no sense to continue and sit up.
That makes the pace in the peloton drops for a while and so everyone who was stuck in the back has a chance to move up.
The pack doesn't wait to long and right after passing the 20 kilometres to go banner, the leading trio is caught.
Everything looks ready for a mass sprint. Evian, Amex and Prio seem to be the three teams that are looking to create a leadout-train.
Not confident in his teammate Lo Cicero, Nooytens wants to avoid the mass sprint and attacks. Sprinter Hoffman, Vanspeybrouck and Eichler jump in his wheel.
They don't last long so the race will be decided in a mass sprint. Strangelly enough, Caldeira, Santons, Eisel and Farrar drop back as the move started so Avelino and Kupfernagel have to search for a wheel in the Evian-line.
So only the Evian leadout-train at the front. Petit - Averin - Napolitano is their plan but Petit has to dropp off quite early so Averin has to start his leadout from far out.
Vantomme, Davis, Kennaugh, Avelino and Lo Cicero are following in Napo's wheel.
Roelandts, with Kupfernagel and Haussler in his wheel, tries to grab Lo Cicero's wheel but never fully reaches it.
But Averin can't hold on for long so Napolitano has to start his sprint when the riders turn up the wide final straight with 2 kilometres left. The riders in his wheel are getting a perfect leadout.
Napolitano looks cooked already with 1200 metres left and starts to lose speed. Sign for Vantomme and Avelino to jump out.
Avelino doesn't have the power to pass anybody, nor has Lo Cicero. It looks like it will be a fight between Vantomme, Davis and Kennaugh. Vantomme is leading but the other two are not far behind.
300 metres left. Vantomme is done. He went to early. Davis is still leading but it seems like Lo Cicero has found an extra gear. Can he threat the Aussie?
it's all to late as Davis takes the win here! He continues a very succesful season. His 6th win already plus some very good results in the Giro.
Kennaugh takes third. He used Davis slipstream very well but never had the speed to pass or even threat him.
Avelino completes the podium while Lo Cicero just overtakes Vantomme for 4th. Kupfernagel is the first German on 6th while Napolitano has to have a good word with his leadoutman toninght. 7th for him right in front Haussler and Roelandts.
Hoffman with a strong last kilometre after his attack inside the last 10 km to take 10th. Smukulis, Lorenzetto, Rowe, Drujon and Reimer complete the top 15.
