Tour de l'Ain - Stage 2
Spilak23
imageshack.us/a/img690/522/mangame216.jpg

Second stage in Tour de l'Ain is only just over 80 kilometres long. That means that the riders shouldn't be tired for tomorrow's TTT. Favourites once again are i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/abc_zps288913e0.png Dekkers, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/reg_zpsf2e631b7.png Jorgensen and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/var_zps06f2aa1f.png Richeze but i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Bibby showed yesterday that he has a fast finish aswell. The shorter route should mean that weaker fast men as Trussov should have more energy left aswell.

imageshack.us/a/img515/540/mangame217.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/pvl_zps0bcc4e74.png Hasanovic is the first rider to attack today. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bin_zps9ee3c16e.png Montenegro, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/vtf_zps1d97281a.png Ginsjo and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/csc_zpsbdf7f4ce.png Fraile immediately jump in his wheel.

Just like yesterday, the first attack is succesfull as their advantage quickly grows to over 2 minutes on the peloton were Jaguar is controlling.

The breaks advantage tops at about 3 minutes and a half.

imageshack.us/a/img836/8189/mangame218.jpg

That's because i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/abc_zps288913e0.png Allianz, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/tcs_zps625f9315.png Tinkoff and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/var_zps06f2aa1f.png Vespa have taken over from Jaguar. The three most active teams in the sprint preparations are once again working hard today.

imageshack.us/a/img189/9236/mangame219.jpg

There is a nice fight at the intermediate point as the escapees sprint for points and seconds. Hasanovic just edges Ginsjo in what was a very close sprint. Fraile takes third while Montenegro didn't seem to care.

With 25 km left untill the finish line, their lead over the peloton just got under 2 minutes.

imageshack.us/a/img850/5367/mangame220.jpg

Fraile, Montenegro and Ginsjo attack away from Hasanovic right after the 10 km to go banner. A desperate attempt as you can see that the peloton is not far off.

imageshack.us/a/img254/3408/mangame221.jpg

A crash occured in the peloton. Luckily it was at the back and no one important fell or got caught behind. Most important riders here are i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/vtf_zps1d97281a.png Vattenfal sprinters Crespo and Moren.

imageshack.us/a/img37/8286/mangame222.jpg

5 km remaining and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bin_zps9ee3c16e.png Montenegro still has a decent gap over the peloton. His earlier companions are caught but he is still going strong.

Strangely, the pace in the peloton has actually completely dropped and Montenegro's lead is back up to almost half a minute. They probably don't want to take an advantage from the crash but nobody important got left behind.

imageshack.us/a/img208/5791/mangame223.jpg

The Vespa squad then moves to the front of the peloton upping the pace again. This means that Montenegro is almost caught as the sprint is about the start with 3 km to go.

imageshack.us/a/img17/7981/mangame224.jpg

No leadout trains got formed and most sprinters are sitting around 25th-30th position. You can see Richeze, Bibby, Tzortakis and Jorgensen on the left there. Dekkers and Teruel try to use the confusion to their advantage as they already start their sprint.

Trussov is already out of contention sitting only around the 100th place.

imageshack.us/a/img854/8089/mangame225.jpg

Around the final corner with just over 1 km left to the line and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/abc_zps288913e0.png Dekkers and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/csc_zpsbdf7f4ce.png Teruel were the first to overtake Montenegro. They have a good advantage, both in speed and in distance over the rest of the pack were now everybody has started his sprint.

imageshack.us/a/img713/8261/mangame226.jpg

Well inside the final kilometre and Dekkers is still leading. A fading Teruel is overtaken by i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/var_zps06f2aa1f.png Ascani. Richeze's final leadout looks really good here going behind Dekkers. Coming fast from behind are GC threat i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/prp_zps2240497e.png Plaza and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/pvl_zps0bcc4e74.png Borrajo.

No sign of Bibby, Richeze or Santambrogio as they are stuck in traffic further down.

imageshack.us/a/img801/8953/mangame227.jpg

Almost at the line now and it's i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/tcs_zps625f9315.png Kiryienka who is Dekkers' biggest threat. Tinkoff's all around rider played it smart and waited till the very end to start his acceleration. This will be a really close finish here.

imageshack.us/a/img692/6469/mangame228l.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/abc_zps288913e0.png Dekkers pulls up and starts to celebrate! It's not sure he won though as Kiryienka came really close in the end. Let's take a look at the photo finish.

imageshack.us/a/img708/4329/mangame229.jpg

It's only milimetres but Dekkers is right. He can celebrate the win here. He used the confusion to his advantage by going early and just holding on with the smallest margin.

Even though he was really close, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/tcs_zps625f9315.png Kiryienka can still be happy with second while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/pvl_zps0bcc4e74.png Borrajo takes third.

Eltink, Plaza, Hoogerland and Cataldo, names we had expected to see later on in this race all finish in the top 10 here showing good form.

Tzortakis is the only sprinter that could come from behin into the top 10 taking 6th while Teruel only finishes 15th after going along with Dekkers.

Dekkers is the new leader after Bibby only finished 17th.
