So I've sent my scout of international fame out to discover talented riders. He mentions a few of those youngster as "promising" and claims that we must sign them, but a closer analysis of their stats shows that they are mainly between 53 and 65. I would assume that these riders don't have much talent and I'm inclined not to sign them, but maybe I should listen to my scout and hope that they will improve their stats. What is the wise thing to do here: wait for talents with more decent stats or does my scout know better and will I miss out on some amazing talent? I'm playing with a World Tour team, so I'm not desperately looking for a bargain. DB is PCMDaily for Patch 1.4. |

Well, "promising" or "great future ahead" is more about their potential. Their starting stats are less important, it's all about how strong they can get in the future, after a couple of years training. |

But if a young rider really has much potential, he would not have such low stats.
The scouts are wrong in most cases, it is quite a gamble if you listen to them. |

That's true also. Though 65 isn't that low, depending on the age.
So it's always best to monitor first, and wait for most stats to appear, before signing. |

I'll just follow my intuition then. Or fire the scout, he's rather expensive... |

What he said.
The riders winning the U23 races are most likely quite good. If you want a sprinter, look at who has won a lot of flat stages and sign him. He will probably have a very good sprint stat.

I find the 'cold readings' of Legendary scouts with their relevant stat at 9/10 or 10/10 to be reliable so far. In 4 seasons, I signed four riders who were deemed 'future great's and after looking at their potentials with an editor I confirmed they were, even though they had low stats to start off with.
However, when I accidentally hired an International scout instead of Legendary, who had 9/10 in his relevant stats, he scouted two riders as 'future greats', but when I checked in the editor, they completely sucked...
My advice, you can only trust the cold readings of legendary scouts with stats at 9/10 or higher. |

I doubt that you could prove that statistically when analyzing several careers.
I only use legendary scouts and I found huge differences between scouted and real potential.
The best thing is to either scan their stats or look at the U23 standings.
If I remember correctly, a sprinter with potential 8 would have a sprinting stat above 70.
Obviously this also depends on the young rider potential or however the XML files are called. If you are using the default files from Cyanide, you might find other stats, but there is a reason why this/these files have been updated by the community. |

I will most likely look at the U23 results closely and monitor the most successful riders from those races. I don't want to look into the xml files, because I don't want to make it too easy for myself and I work with xml on a daily basis... |

It makes no sense to look at the XML files because it only tells the game how to create young riders.
The information mentioned by ShortsNL could be found in the table DYN_young_riders which can be found in the save of the career. |
