As the title suggest.
So i'm 15km from the line on a flatish stage, i set a youngster to leadout on Dot 87 with 4-5 guys behind him.
With 10km to go i increase to Dot 95 until his out of the red/yellow bar.
Next guy Dot 95 until 4km to go, increase to 99 until out of red/yellow bar.
Ok so 3 guys left in the train with about 3km to go, Dot 99 until tired, usually with around 1.5km to go.
2nd to last guy Dot 99 until 1km to go then sprints. Guy behind them sprints with 700 - 800m to go.
Sounds ok?? No.....but the time the final sprinter sprints he is A) knackered and B) already being overtaken but every man and his dog!
What am i doing wrong? or do i just need better riders/sprints?

If your main sprinter is tired then your train is working too hard.
Its not about being ahead, but level with the front (for me anyway)
It does depend on fitness, quality of your rider and the others though.
What sort of riders are you struggling with, and against who?

I play on Normal level, i started with a custom team on a small budget in the bottom Div. I got promoted and now in my 2nd season.
I'm using riders like G.Thomas, Ventoso & Renshaw |

Are they at full fitness or varying levels?
What you are doing in terms of procedure seems ok. Did you have the same problem last season?

They are between 85-95 for fitness levels. I had similar problem last year but i won a few Mountain GC's with Poels, Pozzovivo, Quintana.

I believe your issue is with your sprint timing. When the option is available to sprint on flat stages at 3km to go, you should do so ! (To clarify, either your 3rd or 2nd leadoutman should be on sprint at 3km with the others in his wheel, your main sprinter should come out from anywhere from 1800m to 800m. There's 2 reasons for this:
1)You actually go faster in sprint mode than 99 dot.
and more importantly ...
2)because of the way the AI works if someone comes out of the peleton (sprint or attack) that they don't want to let get away they latch on the wheel (you can see this effect in early breakaway attempts when too many riders attack). The lead rider goes faster than he would normally on 99 dot but blows his energy super fast (faster than actually attacking) to try to keep pace with the attacking/sprinting rider in front of him. This is what happens to your little train when you're not sprinting with 3km to go, they're trying to follow all the others who are sprinting and kill themselves off, hence you get passed by everyone as you have no red left. (Also explains why your main man sprints so late).
I'm not sure I explained the 2nd point very well, but basically just have your train sprint at the earliest possible point rather than dot, should fix the problem. |

It depends on the rider and the terrain, but if he has almost full bars his sprint should last 1-1.5km on flat. Try to time it so that he runs out just as he crosses the line.
I'm not an expect by I usually only use 1 or perhaps 2 as lead out (if the last lead out is also a fast sprinter). At about 8km-10km I organize the train and put the front man on 80 dot and regulate him to try and keep him level with the furthest rider. At 4-5km I'll up it to anywhere between 90-95 to get my sprinter first in to the area. At around 1.5-2km I'll hit sprint, but depending on his bars I might hold off a little bit. If the 2nd lead out is a fast sprinter I usually start him at around 2.5-3km.
If it's downhill you can start sooner and uphill obviously a bit later.
