The Eighth generation for consoles begins in a few months, with Nintendo bringing out the new "Wii U". It's said to have better graphics than both the Xbox 360 and PS3. But one thing needs to be asked. Will it have sports games.
I made the mistake 5 years ago to buying into the Wii's motion system instead of getting an Xbox. By 2008 all Wii sports games were cartoon party games and by 2010 the only one left at all was NBA 2k. Well the Wii was not good at all. I finally gave up complaining on forums and went to PC gaimng, but I'm afraid my PC can't take too many more of these. So here's where we zoom to present day.
The Wii U has already been leaked for Fifa 13 and Madden 13. For Fifa, it looks amazing. The graphics are definetly on par with the 360 and PS3 ones, and EA says that's only because they had to port it for lack of time. The gamepad looks cool with tons of features including drawing formations and stacking substitutions, yet out of touch, but I'll get to that later. All the features are there and it really looks great. But with Madden it's not so.
For the Madden version, it's almost an exact port of the Wii version, hcih stands to still be released at least through Madden 14, although I doubt that we will have another PS2 scenerio. At this point the PS4 will come out partnered with the PS2, not the PS3. Anyway, it's bad. The only difference is that it seems that the player models are not the cartoony crap, but they might as well be. They are, get this, the Madden 08 models. A game which was basically ported from another Nintendo system, the Gamecube. So this has Gamecube graphics. That's bad. You know it's bad when it's modeled form a 6th generation console not named the PS2. And it's even worse when you pair it with the gamepad, which brings no feature but nonsense to this. EA blame it on lack of time. Of course, as it is, the game will be released over 2 months after the rest of the consoles, including the Wii U's predesessor's, release.
The Nintendo Wii U Gamepad is the kicker. It would seem revolutionary, although if you looks closely, you'll notice in structure and use it is almost identical to that of the Nintendo DS, a system circa 2004. Oh boy, not another port. The only knowck is if the TV is unavailable, you can play the game exclusively on the gamepad, much like with the PS Vita connection. However, the gamepad looks big and bulky, not what you what when your gaming, more like what you want for the management aspect. Also, multiplayer would be pretty horrid with everyone needing a $100 unit. So there are other options.
In addition to the gamepad, there is a new versionof the clasic controller, whcih is virtually a copy of the Xbox one besides the fact that for some odd reason, the buttons are below the right analog stick. This seems really annoying at first look, but maybe they will change this going into the release. In addition to this you can you pretty much anything from the Wii. Every single game as of now covers it. So multiplayer is a go. Good news.
It seems to set up almost exactly like the Wii Shop Channel gives way to an Xbox Marketplace like setup. Maybe The TDF will make it's way there, who knows? Also, there will be an online feature like Xbox Live. I don't have any info to back this up, but I'm guessing it will use those weird "Miis". This seems to seel the deal that this is almost the same as the 360, exept with what I think is better motion. I say this because I find that the Kinect is really stupid when playing something that requires any sort of object, and feels simply awkward.
Overall, I think it would be the best console on the market, but I will only get it when ther eis confirmation of that. I will not repeat the mistake I made 5 years ago. I know it was prety stupid to make a thread about this on a cycling forum but I wanna know what you guys think about not only this corny console's successor, but the future of console gaming as a whole. Feel free to discuss if you want.

I voted "no". I admit I don't know much about it. All I know is that wii was extremely disappointing for me! So I guess I won't be crazy about this either.
Although the classic controller seems good. |

Seems like a worthy successor for the Nintendo 64.

As far as i can see that an Xbox360 controller there... with some minor changes
Also the graphics look the same as a 360, and the console itself has a feel of microsoft about it
hmmm, it seems nintendo are no longer just re-doing their own ideas any more.... cant say im surprised though
Actually the tablet link in with game and contoller deal seems quite nice, if entirly pointless for most games
oh and @fcanellara
nothing will ever be as awesome as the N64!!! unless it has tits

It really is as Madden has the Gamecube engine in it - the N64's successor. But at least you have inspired me to pull mine back out for some Mariokart64, which is unsuprisingly almost the same exact thing as the newest version.

Instead of being different, and being my alternate console choice, for those "different" games its becoming exactly the same as what I already have.
I personally dislike the motion of the normal Wii but the arcadey games such as Wii Sports and Winter Olympics and Mario are quite fun. I honestly think this will fail as a console. It looks too similar to what everyone already has (i.e an Xbox or PS3). And if people want the motion well not only do PS3 and Xbox have that now, but Wii does.
I'll have to see more before saying "no" but for now, I dont feel like I want it at all.

Well I agree with you, but I don't think anyone has really mastered motion gaming yet. That's up for grabs still. But whoever tries to do it can't overdo it. That's why I think Kinect is a fail. IMO.

Nothing will ever come close to that.
The big problem with the WiiU? All the big games on it are already on the other consoles and have been for at least a year in some cases (Batman). I doubt that it will last.
The other big issue (from a salesperson's perspective here...): The price tag is likely to be in the $550 range. That is NOT the price mark which Nintendo can afford to sell any of their consoles at.
Overall, I think it would be the best console on the market
Give me my PS3's blu-ray player any day over a machine which can't even play DVDs.

You don't have a DVD player?
And you know that only 1/5 of blue rays are actually remastered in HD, right?

Of course. I also like having an all-in-one media player.

Don't care. If I can watch Game of Thrones in all its glory then the investment is worth it. Particularly when that investment will save me $200 and have better games on it.

I doubt it will stay at 550$ for any amount of time. My local gamestore dealer prices it at 400$ for release and 350 by Christmas.
And bluerays are more expensive for nothing. That's not an investment. There is a reason they've been out for 6 years and still haven't become the sole movie disc.

Blu ray is better than HD, you must not have a capable TV I noticed big differences usually. Even on Laptops and computers.
And its not the sole movie disk, because people are cheap, dont care about the drop in quality, rent movies, see them in theatres or download them illegally.
There is no question that Blu-Ray is high quality though.
But back to the main point, in my honest opinion a PS3 is the best Blu-Ray player you can get! I dont really know a regular players price, but you get so much more with a PS3, and dont even get me started on the Wii. Crappiest resolution ever.

A DVD player is like 20 bucks, blue ray like 100.
And you understand that the Wii U has better res than both PS3 and Xbox 360, right?

And I feel it may be the opposite. My TV is brilliant so DVD's look fine on it.
Ummm... what do you mean Blu Ray is better than HD. Not following you here. That makes no sense.

Yeah, a piece of shit dvd player is 20 bucks. To get anything half decent you pay more than 60 bucks, I've found.
Blu-Ray players are about 100-300 here and obviously the lower down the ladder you go, the cheaper your player is going to be and vice versa.
I understand, but Wii graphics suck. Some games look only a small step up from 8-bit....
Dvds look "fine" on your tv? Doesn't sound "brilliant" to me
And you do realise that blu-ray has a much better picture. Thats my point. If you have a capable playback device, you'd notice the differences big time.

Yes, but very few movies are actually fully compatable. To do that you'd have to up the pixels for every single frame of the movie.
Some movies are much better in blu ray, but some are actually exact copies of the DVD version. That's why after 6 years, DVDs are still around. It's not worth spending $30 more on most movies for the exact same thing.
But I can't see what this has to do with anything. So let's end this discussion.

If a movie isn't fully converted to Blu-ray thats just that specific company chinsing you. Has nothing to do with Blu-ray.

Half of the companies chince you though. That's the point. If everything was fully compatable it would be great. But a lot of companies don't want to put in the work, which lowers its value as an investment as a whole.
Edit: About the price, they must just be cheaper here then.
And just for the record, I use a Blu Ray Player. I just make sure I'm not getting chinced before I buy, because if they are I can get it cheaper on DVD. That's all I'm sying.
