This is the story all about how, Cataldo will be competing in the Giro. This will include any tune up races. Cataldo will try and get a Top 3 at the Giro and finish as the Top Italian in the race! It will not be easy for someone like Dario, but he won the GiroBio before, so he knows what its like to win a big race in Italy.
Do you think he can do it? Can he do even better and win the Giro? Or will he fail his goals?

Dario is an Italian Road Cyclist from Laciano, Italy. He is 26 years old (start of season) and to this day has not found the potential that many teams saw in him a few years ago. He has always been a rider with lots of potential.
Cataldo was a very good rider as a junior, winning the GiroBio 2006, ahead of favourites like Dmytro Grabovskyy, Geraint Thomas, Marco Cattaneo, Matthew Lloyd and Zagorodny. This victory put him in the spotlight of many teams, as the winner of this race usually goes on to show themselves as a top Stage Racer in the Cycling world.

At the end of the season he joined Liquigas, one of the best Italian teams at the time, where he continued to show a lot of promise. However in 2007 in one of the biggest U23 races of the season he really disappointed. The Tour de L'Avenir he finished a mediocre 10th overall in the GC behind riders he should have beaten like Andre Steensen, Frederik Wilmann and Guillaumme Levartlet. However he managed to win one stage during the Tour, so it was not a complete failure. Also in this season, Dario had a major crash with a car, that hampered his season, and some say stunted his growth, as a cyclist.
In 2008 he remained with Liquigas, but had another poor season. He began showing good results as a Time Trialist, even more so with two great TTT results and a few ITT results to back that up. His poor showing, meant he was moving on from Liquigas...
For the 2009 season, Dario moved over to QuickStep where it was possible for him to lead the Giro Squad a major attraction for him. He ended the season without a victory, and also finished 58th at the Giro, but he did well at the Tour of Missouri. He also had his best season as a pro, despite not having a win.

In 2010, Cataldo focussed more on his attacking riding, and that allowed him results in other races, but he crashed out of the Giro and had a poor Vuelta, once again diminishing his hopes as a GT rider.
2011 we saw Cataldo have his best season to date! He finished well at some early season Spanish classics, then fought hard to win the Pais Vasco Mountain Classification, but came up short. He entered the Giro d'Italia on great form, and had a few Top 10 finishes, but best of all he completed the race in 12th overall, finally showing glimpses of his past as a dominant stage racer on the Junior Level.
He improved his TT and got 7th at the NCs. He had another poor Vuelta, but did well in Beijing and finished 9th overall there. But his final result of the season was 13th at Lombardia, one of the biggest Hilly Classics of the season, and he finished near some very big names! Does this mean he's evolved into a strong puncheur too, or just a strong all-round climber?

Are you going to edit his stats? With his current stats it will be hard to get on the final podium
But, good luck either way |

I can't wait to see next Italian rider fighting for the win in GT's because Basso, Cunego and Scarponi are all above 30 |

Dario is a great rider, I hope to see him on the podium.
Cataldo will be my co leader in the Giro, so maybe I can learn from you
Good luck.

Monk - Yeah, only slightly. I'm giving him 77 Mountain. Thats probably what he deserves anyway.
baseball Go figure what
Pelli Thanks! I really like him too! I hope it doesn't got wrong anyway. The story will be a filler for now, but I may even keep it as a full story, rather than mini story.
Miguel Thanks. Glad he's one of your favourite riders too! He's my 3rd favourite.
TomC Me too! I was hoping he would become the next Giro winner, but he doesn't look strong enough to be, unless he goes to Sky
PCM rulezz Thank you. I agree I hope to see him there too, with Hesjedal winning
Co Leader? He should be your full on leader! Remmeber its his goal IRL and he will get a nationality bonus

Rico Thanks!
Freitas Indeed! Thanks, glad you like him too
Teddy Thanks! It will. I have only a few stages
baseball okay, thanks for the clarification I am quite a big fan
And everyone, I've been doing some testing and the realname db has better gameplay, should I just stick to that for this story?
Actually, I think I might just take a day and go thru all the stats and lower them.

Thanks a lot everyone!
I have been testing out different db's for optimal mountain gameplay and I think the Cyanide DB is slightly better than PCM.daily due to lower RES however there is the possibility that I keep this story going, instead of keeping it a mini story (atleast I want the option to be open) but that isn't really possible with the CYA db.
I think the best idea would be to lower the RES in the Daily db but that seems like a lot of work, unless theres something like the CLEditor that can mass reduce stats for every rider.
Anyway, thats why nothing has started the past few days, I did not think of this when I started.
And who knows, I might have my new laptop by the time I start this. WHich will hopefully be today or tomorrow. Thanks for everyones patience.
(Lots of writing :lol

Can`t you just open the PCM Daily with Excel?
Full Editor or so.
Then go the RES stat and make the whole coloumn 5 lower or so. Shouldn`t be that hard. |
