Next BMC Leader?

Just observing the overall GC Classifications of the Tour de France and saw that Tejay Van Garderan ranked very high. Will he takes the reins of Cadel when he is suspected to retire after next year? Or was the placing of Van Garderen a fluke? 5th is very good for a young rider and I just wanted everyone's thoughts on if you think Tejay will be the next leader of BMC or where you think he'll come in next years Tour.

Yea I agree. I think Evans said he'll retire after this contract is up. Anyone think he's got a chance at next years Tour? and also what are you're predictions for Evans' and Van Garderan's places next year?

We know that Van Garderen can TT and in the Tour we could see how well he can climb as well, so BMC should build there team around him for next year |

Yes, but only when Cadel retires. If next year Cadel is still in BMC i wuold like to see Cadel trying another shot a TDF and TGV winning at Giro |

Tejay has been climbing steadily up the rankings through the past couple of years, increasing his climbing and TT abilities, so I reckon we will see much more from him in the future. He seems like a very talented rider, who takes the right steps in order to progress the best he possibly can.
I don't think he will be 5th or better next year, as the competition is stronger, and there will probably be more mountaintop finishes, and less TT km, but he is certainly a top 10 bet, and perhaps a rider for the Giro.

Evans his time is over. Tejay will lead the team in next years Tour. If BMC does not buy a new leader.

Evans is leading the team next year at the Tour.
As for TVG. Before the Tour I thought he was immensely overrated but he has started to convince me. He had one bad day, which he can't afford to do if he wants to win but if he irons that out then he could be a great GC rider. I'd like to see him have a crack at the Giro next year.

Giro climbs might be too steep for Van Garderen. And most likely there will be too few TT kilometers for him, he'd better focus on the Tour, imo.

True, true but next year's Tour isn't likely to have a lot of TT kilometres either.

i think the giro will suit him less since it has more climbs and less TT.
Tejay is not a bad climber of course,but there are better and i dont think he can limit his losses in the climbs to be able to take it back in the TT's.he might do a good GC ride and win the young jersey but i think thats it.if i were him i would go to the tour and if cadel cracks again he will be the leader,if not he gets the white and a good chance for a top 10. |

Van Garderen definitely needs to develop consistent form if he wants to lead a team at a Grand Tour. He improved as this year's TFD progressed, but a GC rider needs to be riding at their best every stage.
I'd also like to see him ride the Giro as leader, and then help Evans at the TDF. |

I hope you're wrong, but even if this is true, odds are that the Tour will still have more ITT and the Tour climbs will suit him more anyway.

how is this even up for debate?
obviously (if he stays) TJ will be their next leader
Cadel's saying in the media over here that he wants a next-year assault on the TDF, before handing over the reins to TJ
wouldn't surprise me to see VanGarderen lead at the Giro next year or the Vuelta in order to get leadership experience at a GT |

Cadel to lead the team. TJ in a free role. Simple as that. After Cadel's gone, TJ should be ready to lead.

I think Cadel might have one more shot at it - he clearly seemed out of sorts this year, between the stomach problems and bad luck. He's not quite over the hill yet. Having said that, I don't see him winning again. If all are present next year will be Contador/Schleck/Zroome, perhaps.
Van Garderen certainly seems like one for the future and why not at BMC.
It was eleven more than necessary.

One race and you already changing stats and fast.
I still think top form ..injury free Evans will beat TVG on any tour classification..
at least year or two.
And BMC is ambition team..I would be surprised if they buy new ace with big money

Definite yes.
Van Garderen suprised me a lot in this Tour de France. Hes climbing in some other races has never been convincing, not even in his goals like the ToC and Dauphine (where he even lost the young rider jersey to Kelderman...).
But in the Tour, he was very consistent for 3 days. Only had 1 bad day early in the Tour. And in the final week he was at his strongest. That's a real GT rider for me.
Although it has to be said the Sky-train (1 tempo) suits Van Garderen really well. It has to be seen how he handles a race with Contador (rythm changes) |

I think I agree with most on here, TJ will probably lead BMC in next years Giro, then come and be the help for Cadel in the TdF. The following year TJ will lead BMC in TdF. But we are assuming BMC doesn't go buy someone.
Looking at that though, who is in their prime as a GC contender for BMC to go buy? I don't think they would go after either Schlek, or Contador. Froome maybe, but he is already linked to other teams. Sanchez, Gesink, Nibali and Wiggens won't be leaving their teams. And are riders like Taaramae, Kruijswijk, De Gendt, Kreuziger or Velits anymore ready than TvG?
Also a concern for me with TvG, is the tempo, like Evans he seems to like a steady pace, but even Evans would attack from time to time (though not that great), I haven't seen TvG ever attack on a climb.
