Every 4 years the Olympic games rolls around and it's great for many sports. There is a general olympic thread somewhere, but this is the one for the sport we love. Cycling.
Cycling is on almost every day of the London 2012 games! I've made a handy guide for you all, download it and you'll get all the times you need to plan your trip to London, or TV viewing.
I'll upload another guide with a rider list when it's all confirmed.
Let the games begin!

How do you people rate the importance of the Olympic RR and ITT compared to, say, the World Championships, or Monuments, or random classics ?
A bit the same question : what's riders opinion on the subject ? |

Olympics more than random classics
Less than Worlds
Level with many major classics
Just behind monuments for some riders, more for others
Every rider i know would love to win the olympics, as shown by the number using the tour as a warmup

I would put it somewhere between worlds and monuments/GT in my eyes and of course it varies for different riders, especially home-grown riders.

I reallly don't see it as very important, as your award does not pertain to the real season. You don't get a jersey as in the world. You have to improvise like Sammy Sanchez did. It's an honor, but its kinda out there on its own.

Really looking forward to watching the mountain bikes. One of my favourite events.

In terms of cycling prestige, quite low.
But, a gold medal is a gold medal. The experience + media exposure is only comparable to the Tour de France (in cycling) so for the riders is quite important.

Agree with the second bit.
The first bit I disagree with somewhat. It started low, but has been getting a bigger and bigger deal with each games that passes.

For me, the most importance cycling race at the Olympics is the mens BMX-race. I used to be a BMXer and know most of these guys that race. It'll be pure excitement!!!

Id suggest a better viewing place. Try one that is actually on the course

Good luck with that. Don't think they will let you ride up, even if you have a Box Hill ticket.

Oh damm, any suggestions. I thought it would be a dead cert to be on the course giving it is a great landmark of London

Road race route: https://www.london2012.com/mm/Document...eutral.pdf
Mens TT: https://www.london2012.com/mm/Document...eutral.pdf
Womens TT: https://www.london2012.com/mm/Document...eutral.pdf
For the Road race test event, I watched it infront of Buckingham Palace at about 500 metres to go, which is a good as view as any you will get for free.
Obviously would need to get there fairly early in order to get to the front of the barriers.
