Suggestions: New Riders for the Game
SportingNonsense
Hey all,

As ever, when the season ends, a new wave of cyclists will of course be added to the database, to counteract the fact that older cyclists will be losing stats, but also to keep things interesting - ensure new talents are still coming through, etc. And I'm looking to get much of that groundwork done over June and July.

And its been a good year since any riders have been added to the DB, so Im sure in that time, various riders have come to your attention that are missing from the DB.

So Id like to take your suggestions please. It could be
- New young talents
- A request for more riders from certain countries
- A rider who has gone under the radar altogether
etc

If you can include details like DoB, and what the rider is good at, then that will help.

ALSO: If theres any riders in the database who are currently free agents, that you think should have better stats - point them out here aswell.

In my project with developing cycling in the middle arab countries, I will perhaps need some help in adding some cyclists. There are allready a good pot of Iranians in the database, along with some Israelians and a couple of Qataries, but I felt I could try to help the Man-Game in with some more exotic riders Smile

New candidates:

Hossein NATEGHI (IRN) - age 25 - Sprinter, Puncheur

Proving he was among the best asian sprinters in Le Tour de Langkawi, with getting f.ex 4th and 7th place in the mass sprints. Also he got another 7th placement on the quite hilly 3rd stage.

Hossein ASKARI (IRN) - age 37 - Stage Racier

Finished 3rd in GC in International Azerbaïjan Tour in addition to a bronze medal in Asian Cycling Championships ITT. He is a better TimeTrialer than Saeiditanha, but not as good in the mountains. Maybe 70TT, 65MO

Ghader MIZBANI IRANAGH (IRN) - age 37 - Climber, Sprinter

Another veteran, although way better in the mountains than Askari. He finishing 7th in GC in Le Tour de Langkawi, is pretty impressing. Only beated by the likes of Serpa, Rujano, Dyachenko, Rodriguez etc. He is on the decline because of his age, but he should still have MO-stats of over 72 I think.

Ali KHADEMI (IRN) - age 20 - Fighter, Sprinter

A decent domestique who should be able to compeat at a good level after being fully developed. Still young, but 7th after going in break in Asian Cycling Championships (Under 23) shows that he means business. Maybe 67-68 SP, 74,75 FI?

Hossein ALIZADEH (IRN) - age 24 - Climber

Finished 8th in GC in the hard stage race International Azerbaïjan Tour, only 15 seconds behind podium. Should have a decent climber, puncheur stat.

Payam SADIPOUR (IRN) - age 19 - Sprinter
Finished 12th in Asian Cycling Championships (under 23), and is a good sprinter compared with how young he is. Finished 4th in the bunch after the breakaway in Kuala Lumpur.

Nazir JASER (SYR) - age 23 - Sprinter

Very exciting prospect from Syria. He finished 13th in Asian Cycling Championships for the "adults" allthough he could qualify for the Under-23 race. To be that young, it's a great result, and to make it even better; there was a break ahead, and he actually sprinted to 2nd in the mass sprint. Great future sprinter. Maybe allready close to 70 in SP.

Yousef MIRZA BANIHAMMAD (UAE) - age 24 - Sprinter

Finsihed right behind Jaser (3rd in the mass sprint) and should also be a interresting sprinter prospect.

Ali Abdul AL RIKABI (IRQ) - age 19 - Time Trialer

Remarkably finished 4th in the ITT in Asian Cycling Championships (Under 23), the closest under-20 rider was 3 minutes behind him, certainly a future TT-star if we compare to Asian quality!

Allready in the database:

Arvin MOAZEMI GOUDARZI (IRN) - age 22 - Time Trial, Sprinter

Won the ITT in Asian Cycling Championships (U23) and took bronze in the road race. Definately the greatest Iranian talent there is. In the current database he is among the poorest talents, but he is actually the best placed Iranian on the Asian Tour Rankings according to UCI, and have had a great season. He could need a good upgrade I think Smile

Abbas SAEIDITANHA (IRN) - age 31 - Stage Racier

Finished 2nd in GC in International Azerbaïjan Tour, a quite montanious stage race, proving that he can climb some mountains. He is a good TTer Maybe up to 67. His MO and HI should be better though, around 68-69 I assume.

That was about all I could find for you. I have tried to be as honest as I could with the stats, but if you find some of them unreasonable, feel free to put your own stat there instead Smile

I am sorry that I couldn't find the date for the riders, just the age, the middle eastern region is a quite difficult place to research cyclists from Pfft
And finally, I don't expect you to add all the riders. They are just meant as proposals, but I would be happy if you included at least a couple of them, including to adjust the stats for the two who's allready in the database as free agents Smile

Thanks for the ideas - although Mizbani and Askari are too old. They were born in 1975, and any riders born in 1975 will retire and be removed from the database at the end of the current season. (Kloden, Backstedt and Sastre are the only 3 1975 riders to still have teams)

And Ill probably look to add most of them - always like strengthening the smaller cycling countries!

ZOIDL Riccardo (AUT) - 08/04/1988 - Good time trialist but also puncheur/climber. (Maybe a bit similar to Arndt)
(Austrian ITT champion)

BARTL David (GER) - 09/08/1991 - Good in sprints and not bad on hills
(9th Eschborn Espoirs, 11th Neuseen Classics)

BISSINGER Florian (GER) - 30/01/1988 - Decent timetrialist and puncheur
(1st Tour of Szeklerland, 3rd Paris - Mantes-en-Yvelines)

SCHÄFER Stefan (GER) - 06/01/1986 - Decent sprinter and time trialist
(1st Tour of Hellas)

Will try to find more riders

Enger, Sondre Holst (NOR) - 17/12/1993

One of the most promising norwegian cyclist. His edge is sprinting, but is really an allrounder.

He took three top 6th placements in the UCI race Tour du Loir-et-Cher this year, and sprinted to a 4th place in the first stage of Tour of Norway. He was 10th in the WC Time Trial in copenhagen (junior), and was 8th in the road race in the European Championchip in Italy (junior). He also won the points jersey in a World Cup race in Czech last year.

Hoelgaard, Daniel (NOR) - 1/7/1993

Another great norwegian talent. By Wikipedia described as an allrounder. Not so familiar with his abilities myself. (I'm sure ember knows a lot more about him than I.)

He won the National Championchip road race (junior) in 2010. This year he won two kermesse races in two days in Belgium in april, I think, and this week he is together with his brother Markus, attending the Omega Pharma - Quick Step youth training camp. In the WC in Copenagen he took the best placement for Norway ever in a junior WC road race by finishing at 7th place.

Bystrom, Sven Erik (NOR) - 21/1/1992

Another great Norwegian talent, and another allrounder. Can both climb and sprint. He says himself that when he grows older he need to play his cards by attacking and be an allround cyclist, because he think he won't be a clean sprinter nor a clean climber.

He won the National Championchip in kermesse last year. This year he won Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn-Frankfurt - Espoirs and was 6th at the first stage of Settimana Coppi e Bartali.

jt1109
Doull Owian (GBR) - 02/05/1993 - Slected for the Great British track team at 18 for a world cup event and riding for 100% ME at the moment strong TT and flat rider.
4 time Commenwealth Junior Champion on Track
Also Welsh Juinor RR Champion

viking90
Jonas Ahlstrand - Sweden 16/02/1990

I thought he already was in the DB but can´t find him now.
Anyway he is a sprinter with great potential who won against EBH and Petacchi in Norway some week ago. He was clearly the fastest in the stage he won and did take a 3rd place in one stage infront of Petacchi.
https://cqranking....erid=13382

Tobias Ludvigsson Sweden 22/02/1991

A rider with potential in TT`s and mountains, which he showed in Vuelta Burgos last year with a 16th place in the GC. And has a contract with Team Argos - Shimano IRL.

I would give Lawson Craddock a little stat boost all the way around. He was 37th in California, and 12th in the TT, beating many respectable time trialists (Leipheimer, Nibali, Sanchez, Bookwalter, Machado, Zirbel)

And I'm sure you're on top of it already, but Joe Dombrowski (12/05/1991) should be added, with respectable stats already. (70 MO, maybe mid 60's TT)

The main thing I'd like to see is more Swiss talents. The guys that make good team mates now will be declining in the next few years, and there is a real lack of youngsters to take their place. There are some, but none of them are really worth investing in, because their primary stat will only be 70 or 71, and their backup stats will suck. I'm not asking for superstars, just a some guys that will be good enough to be team mates to keep my team Swiss.

Climber/puncheur

Some good results in punchy/mountain routes. Even beating Markus Eibegger once Pfft Decent talent for this races.

Blaz Bogataj
17/03/1992
Sprinter

Junior european champion in 2010, stage winner in the Trofeo Karlsberg against a talent like Sütterlin too.

Jaka Bostner
05/11/1990
Puncheur

Another decent guy for the hills, showed decent performances in the Nat. Champs. and Banja Luka - Belgrade II, beating the likes of Kvasina and Eibegger (again Pfft)

Blaz Furdi
27/05/1988
Puncheur/Climber

Can't believe this guy has gone under the radar so far, had to check multiple times actually. The guy has podiumed the national championships, the GP Kranj, and the Trofeo ZSSDI. Also won the GP Palio del Recioto against Battaglin (!) and recently podiumed Tartu GP and Tallin-Tartu GP. The guy is also quite fast, and can ride decent prologues.

Marko Kump
09/09/1988
Sprint/Puncheur

Another great talent, very fast, and very good over the hills. 6th in Mendrisio Worlds U23, plus winner of RvV Beloften or Trofeo Zssdi, among others.

Luka Mezgec
27/06/1988
Sprinter

Good sprinter, and can get over the hills decently. Has several good results/victories in U23/2.2 races, and a 5th place in a stage of the Giro di Padania.

I'd also like to have more riders from Slovenia and Croatia available if possible. Smile

There's a thread on the CN forum I'll dig up and see who's not in already from the list of young talents that have been suggested. Will find some results to back up the claims as well. Wink

Tim Declerq (BEL) - 21/03/1989

Won the U23 Belgian Road Race last year and also has had 2 top 10s in the Roubaix Espoirs (in 2010/11). So he is mostly a cobbled rider, but he has also showed decent results in some hilly races.

Tom Van Asbroeck (BEL) - 19/4/1990

Some incredible results in national races in Belgium, and probably one of the biggest talents to be coming up from that country, I believe. He won the U23 Het Nieuswblad and is already showing his cobbled pedigree in his first year as a professional rider (with Topsport Vlaanderen), with 28th at Dwars door Vlaanderen, 29th at the Driedaagse de Panne and 13th at Scheldeprijs. Not only that but he has won several races from a bunch sprint and has a handful of top 10s in bunch sprints this year, in addition to last year's national results. Finally, some of his race results have also indicated that he is decent on the hills (though that is obviously not where his future lies).

Looked into a few more baltic riders, as they'll likely be the base of my team next season.

LIEPINS Emils (i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc62/jolly_anutnes/daily/LAT.pngLAT) - 29/ 10/ 1992
I believe he's already in the DB (twice, actually Pfft ), but he's delivered a few top 10s this season. This includes a 9th in the Tartu GP (I assume the 70m of climbing was enough to play a part, as the winer, Mandri, finished a minute clear of most riders on the day) and 3rd in the Latvian, Jurmala GP, which was a pan-flat sprint race.

He should perhaps then, have his sprint stat raised, and his hilly stat raised a little, too. One of his versions in DB has potential 5, which is probably ideal, given his young age (the other has potential 2, and completely different stats Pfft )

VOSEKALNS Andris (i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc62/jolly_anutnes/daily/LAT.pngLAT) - 26/ 06/ 1992
Also already in the DB, but seemingly a little underestimated. Finished 4th in the Tallin - Tartu GP, which Said Haddou won, finishing ahead of Taaramae in the process. Only other notable result this season is a 15th place in GP Moscow.

Perhaps just a slight boost to sprint needed.

PUUSEPP Martin (i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc62/jolly_anutnes/daily/EST.pngEST) - 08/ 02/ 1988
No results recorded this year, but consistent Top 10s in the national championships over recent years. Finish 2nd in the RR in 2011, and 5th in the TT the same year.

Dug out the thread, if anyone wants to read it: https://forum.cyclingnews.com/showthre...hp?t=17068

Will look for some more riders later, hopefully that helps. The guy who did the list did a great job, I have to say. Smile

Stuyven should certainly be added, if he wasn't already!

He showed his talent in the AtoC!

And he went to the same school as me! Pfft

He is riding as a stagiare for my team.

Giro dispatch

Gianluca Brambilla - Italy - 22/08/1987

13th at this years Giro D'Italia in his second Giro. Seen as more of a punchaer before the Giro and now can be counted as a good mountain man too.

He has a younger brother of course...

Giorgio Brambilla - Italy - 19/09/1988

Looks like more of a sprinter with an ability on cobbles.

Sonny Colbrelli - Italy - 17/05/1990

Nabbed a top ten on stage 13 of the Giro, as will as some top tens in Langkawi and San Luis. A pretty decent Italian sprinter.

Manuel Belletti - Italy - 14/10/1985

Journeyman Italian sprinter. Three top tens in the Giro though, suggest that he would be worth adding as a low level sprinter type.

Pierpaolo Di Negri - Italy - 05/06/1986

Top ten sprinter at the Tour of Blighty in 2009 and 2010 with ISD. Completed the Giro with Farnese-Vini after doing some cobbled stuff with Pozzato in the spring.

Elia Favilli - Italy - 31/01/1989

Another decent Italian fastman. 5th on stage 13 of the Giro behind the Manx Express in his second Giro, managed some decent results in Farnese Vini's Belgiam touring in the spring - 6th at Scheldprijs for example. His 9th place at Strade Bianchi and 21st at the Tour of Flanders suggests some good punchaer/toughman style talents.

On the subject of the Giro, Roberto Ferrari is a free agent and could do with some slightly increased sprint stats.

Some Australians:

Caleb Ewan - Australia - 07/11/1994

Junior world champion - no doubt on SN's radar another off the sprinting Australian treadmill.

Nathan Haas = Australia - 12/03/1989

Decent punchaer - all rounder, currently rides as one of Vaughters domestiques at Garmin Barracuda.

Michael Hepburn - Australia - 17/8/1991

Not quite Jack Bobridge - but a strong Time triallist nonetheless. Finished fourth in this years Australian Time trial.

William Clarke - Australia - 11/04/1985

Spectacular winner of second stage at the Tour down Under this year, also finished 8th in the Rund um Koln. Your classic Barouder.

Steele Van Hoff - Australia - 31/12/1987

In the chipoltle developmental team now following a good record in crit stages. 5th in the Cancer Classic and some decent sprints at the Tour Down Under.

Random ones

Sep Vanmarcke - Belgium - 28/07/1988

Talented Belgian cobbled rider. I keep checking, I don't think he is there!

Maarten Wynants - Belgian - 13/05/1982

I don't think this strong cobbler is in the database either.

Francisco Lasco - Italy - 29/03/1988

Getting some sprint results - including a win at the circuit de Lorraine and finishing just behind Hagen in Algarve.

Daniel Ricardo Diaz - Argentina - 07/07/1989

The guy that nearly held off Contador on the Mirador del Sol in the Tour de San Luis this year. A good climber of his local hills!

Pieter Selly - Belgium - 21/11/1988

Belgian punchaer, 3rd at this years Brabantse Pijl did pretty well on the hilly stage at the Tour of Norway (4th) this year as well. Finished fairly high up in La Doyenne.

Jake Keough - USA - 18/06/1987

Useful American Sprinter - who couldn't quite bring home a win in Langkawi.

French dudes

Geoffery Soupe - France - 22/03/1988

Conned a few people thinking he was Demare on stage 2 of the Giro when landing 3rd place. Clearly a good sprinter as he managed another couple of top tens. Sprinter who can climb hills pretty well.

Adrien Petit - France - 26/09/1990

Second behind Demare in last years U23 worlds - highly likely SN has got this guy on his list. 3rd at Le Samyn this year, but not really mixing it with the big boys as yet.

Jonathan Hivert - France - 23/03/1985

After the Wiggins wins a sprint farce, decided to surprise the unlikely sprinters by nicking the second stage at Romandie. Solid results at the 2011 Tour and 2012 Paris Nice. A good punchaer type who isn't quite as good as Coppel, but is certainly improving.

Pierre-Luc PÉRICHON - France - 04/01/1987

Won the Paris Camembert big cheese. Looks like a breakaway sort of rider.

Justin Jules - France - 20/09/1986

A top ten sprinter type.

Yannick Martinez - France - 04/05/1988

Another French sprinting hope - not really hitting the big results yet though.

Thomas Lebas - France - 14/12/1985

8th up Green Mountain in Oman this year and 5th on the Mount Fuji time trial(admittedly two minutes down on the winner, but ahead of all the Japanese!). Looks a decent climber though.

Meanwhile we have the missing tests man Sébastien Turgot in the database as a free agent with a cobbled stat of 69. A stat increase is some areas perhaps?

Two riders i can remember from the top of my head who aren't in yet: Daniel Oss and Fabio Felline. Both good in sprints and decent on cobbles. Both can handle tougher courses to, with Felline being the slightly better.
