Anybody knows what the plans are for the future of Orica-GreenEdge, stage racers-wise? Do they have ambition in eventually having riders battling the mountains, or will they remain a mostly sprinting team? |

If they want to go for stage races and Grand Tours then they should sign Cadel Evans |

I believe it was stated at some point that they will in the future but for the moment they want to be a classics/sprint team. Porte would be the best fit IMO. BMC was designed with Evans in mind and he would never leave there.

I think that Porte would be a good signing for GE. He has the potential to do very well in a race like the Giro, and maybe the Tour in a couple of years. Maybe.

HTC was absed ion sprinting, but they had some GC guys. Velits was 3rd in the 2010 Vuelta a Espana

Bannan said they would look for a GT specialist after about 3 years. But now he says it could be even sooner because they didn't expect to get a sponsorship so early.

Porte signed a 2 year deal and will be only available next year, although I don't think he will leave Sky, he feels good there. Same reason why Sutton and Hayman didn't sign to sign with GE this year and stayed with Sky.
The one to leave Sky for GE will be Micheal Rogers though, I feel he will leave Sky at the end of the year and not better team to go to then GE.
He's past his best but still good to produce show nice results as he's proving this year.

Agreed. I do hope Rogers heads to GE. He can maybe lead the team again in the Giro, or go for another California win! I loved his win in Cali a few years back...

He definitely should. At Sky he will be mostly domesitque, while at GE he will lead almost every stage race he enters.
But GE could do some nice signings this year. Their budget significantly increased with Orica and is now one of the highest in the cycling. Lower than BMC & Katusha but bigger than many others and on par with OPQS and Astana, Sky now would come just below those 5 teams.

Is there a chance GE could sign a superstar? Like Nibali? Or maybe someone like Kreuziger or Froome? I'm not sure about those last two guys contracts, but my real point is, with such a high budget, will the 2013 offseason be a spending spree?

I don't know much about GE's plans but there is definitely a chance of a really good transfers coming.
They almost got Tony Martin last year, but where out bided by OPQS. Nibali is going to Astana though and Froome signed 3 year deal last year. Kreuziger is a good shout and he should leave Astana this year, but again he's likely place to go is OPQS as well. But GE could definitely fight for him, maybe not best GC rider but capable of good performances as he shown over past.

Maybe they'll sign Evans one day, but how long will Evans be riding still? I hope they sign Caleb Ewan as a young rider next year! |
