Does anyone knows who are the best payed cyclist in the peloton?

A lot of the exact wages are not public but it isn't hard to figure out, really. Contador, Cavendish, Schlecks, Boonen, etc. Some high calibre riders may accept pay cuts to stay where they want (Voeckler has done this I believe, though I could just be misremembering things).

If i remember it right, Contador earned a little over or was just short of 4 Million at Astana before signing with Saxo Bank.
Since Astana was prepared to increase his Salary to 5.5 Million (Source is l'equipe here), we can assume that Saxo Bank payed quite a bit more than Astana.
I believe i also read somewhere that Riis claimed to have less than cofidis which is "estimated to be between 8.5 and 9 million Euros," which is "3.5 million Euros less than what the team operated on when it was last in the WorldTour in 2009." (Source: Cyclingnews).
Add that to the fact that Riis also stated that Contador takes up about 2/3 of that budget, we can conclude that Conatdor earns something on the line of 5.5 to 6 million euros per annum, which would probably make him the best payed rider in the pro tour until being "released" last week.
Having said that, I am NOT counting in the revenues Conatdor received by Specialized which are one of his personal sponsors...
With Sponsor revenues sombody else might be best payed cyclist, considering his success and winning resumé there is little doubt about him having been on the top spot on the wage list in the cycling world.

BY the way: The above stated values and assumptions dont necessarily have to be correct, because, as it has been mentioned above, we dont get excact values for contracts...

It was written when Contador signed Saxo, that the salary would be 21 million DKK, which is around 4,5million euros/year.
However, as you write, I think it's slightly higher, as I've read somewhere that Boasson Hagen signed a new contract with Sky giving him around 4,5million/year aswell.
