My point in creating this thread is to discuss what will be of Contador future.
As everyone knows Alberto Contador is banned until August. There is no doubt that he will go for the Vuelta with everything he as got.
The big question is who will sign him?
Is contract with SaxoBank is terminated so he will have no help from them.
I would like to see him go to Euskatel. I have read a news that said that Euskadi (which is a foundation, meaning that they don't care for profit) will leave the team. Lets not forget that Euskatel-Euskadi is like Astana, is controlled and financed by the government. With this Euskatel would find a new sponsor to fill Euskadi role, which enable them to have a bigger budget and sign foreign riders.
Sorry in advance for my english.

Euskaltel doesn't have the money.
Either Riis somehow finds a sponsor for next season and Contador stays there, or he goes to Movistar like he's always said he will eventually go.
One option demands that Riis finds a sponsor. The other option demands that Contador breaks off with Specialized.

I think there's a gentleman's agreement between Contador and Riis about this season - that Contador will ride the Vuelta for Saxo Bank. However, anything can happen in 2013. |

The chances of Euskaltel going bust as not being able to find a sponsor are much higher. That is as there is not much interest in a basque outfit for any companies outside the basque country, so they are severly limited in who will offer them a deal. This is in comparison to Astana who have the full and mighty force of the Kazakstanian goverment behind them. Yet admittedly they are a spanish outfit so will not care about his past and as they have already signed dopers in Astarloza and as they have now said they are not only taking in basques there is a very minimal possibility, yet it is much more probable we'll be seeing sanchez riding in non orange in 2013
Much more likely is the possiblity of Riis resigning Contador, especially as he has already pledged his support of Contador. The only reason that Riis wouldn't resign him is as by then Saxo Bank will have pulled their sponsorship due to contador not being there previously as they have the option to pull it at any time. Or Saxo Bank may be demoted to Proconti and so wont be able to lure Contador back.
Finally there is Movistar who have already signed Valverde a former doper and as they are spanish will not mind signing another one due to the popularity in their country will outweigh the bad press from other places. They also seem to have the money as they have just got Valverde, cobo, visconti and guys like moreno etc. Yet their primary problem is that with Valverde already being their leader and then Contador coming in, with both of their UCI points not counting they may be in deep water when it come to applying for a UCI licence. Though they should be safe with guys like visconti, rojas, ventoso, cobo, costa and plaza etc.

I think he'll end up leaving Riis in 2013.
On the other hand, it's only very few teams that would/will be able to afford Contadors wage, so i dont know. I dont think a team like Movistar would be able to pay him 4-5 million euro/year.
As for the contract of Contador, it could be to save money, in order to sign new riders. If they keep Contador after 2013, he probably wouldn't mind skipping 6 months wage, in trade for better teammates.

I think he will continue with Saxo for the rest of 2012.
But then he'll probably end up with Movistar. Then again, that would make 2 leaders for Movistar that aren't able to score points for them so it's not that easy.

Contador contract would end this season anyway. Maybe it is time for Fernando Alonso to invest some money in a team like he said he would some years ago.
There are teams that I exclude, those being: Garmin, Quickstep, Sky, Radioshack, Movistar, Lotto and BMC, since this teams already have extremely high budgets; and them AG2R, FDJ, Vacansoleil for lack of funds; finally GreenEdge, Lampre and Liquigas because this are more turn to national riders and I don't see them signing spanish riders to help Contador.
This leaves us with Astana (I have my doubts), Katusha (they are already spending lots of money but they have lots of spanish riders with them and Contador gives lots of importance to that), SaxoBank, Euskatel (for the reasons I said in the first post), and Rabobank (which I would like and they have lots of spanish riders and always have a big budget). |

Contador can't go Movistar as Valverde may become his domestique for the TDF, Valverde has won a GT before in the Vuelta, Im hoping it will give him the confidence to win the TDF.

Garmin won't touch him after the positive. GreenEdge, Rabobank and BMC probably don't want the baggage.
Radioshack and Sky probably don't have budget left after their massive signings. Lotto is committed to Vandenbroeck. AG2R, FDJ and probably Vacansoleil don't have the money.
Astana will make an offer but he'd probably rather retire than be with Vino again. Saxo Bank will likely not have a sponsor next season. Euskaltel are struggling to even exist next season and if they do manage to exist they will have an EXTREMELY reduced budget.
Liquigas have made Contador big offers in the past but that was before. Now they're struggling to find a new sponsor for next season and the team might very well end because the current sponsor is leaving, so they won't be able to make any offers.
Katusha has way too many leaders.
So it's Movistar and QuickStep who have both made him offers before.

Valverde would love having Contador there and would work for him at the Tour. He's admitted as much.

Dekker pretended to be sorry and confessed to some small things. Contador says he's innocent.

Huh? Last I heard about Euskaltel was them stopping the Basque-only policy and actually increasing their budget?
Edit: This

Of course, nowhere near enough to pay AC anyway.

I think Contador will end his season with Saxo Bank this year. And as issoisso pointed out, either Movistar or Quickstep, will take him for 2013.
Especially Quickstep would be a great match i think. They have no real GC man apart from Leipheimer (who's getting older every day), and the relationship between Leipheimer and Contador seems to be okay enough to be working together. And then Quickstep definitely got the money for him, if they really want him

Well no doubt about that Contador loves being with Riis/Saxo Bank and Riis love having Contador. Not only because he is the best rider, but also because they are a FANTASTIC match.
But Riis does not have the money to have Contador and other riders at a really high level. So unless he finds some sponsors who are going to be pay much more than Saxo Bank, he have to decide if he wants to keep Contador and use almost all budget on that, or if he wants to have the budget to get other good riders, which could mean that he in 2013 also can have a WorldTour Team (he cant have that if he keeps Contador obv, unless miracles happens).
So my guess would be that Contador is not a Riis-rider in 2013. Well, if Riis have a team, that is. Riis have been in really shit situations before, but this one.. Hard one. If he have a team on highest level (WorldTour) again next year i have to give some respect to the man (well more than i have now, and thats much btw )
My guess: Contador 2013 = Quick Step or Movistar.

They have Velits, who is able to get better results on GT's than olding Levi (of course not the results Contador can achieve) and Levi, Martin who can win almost every week-long stage race, so i think they are o.k with stage-racers.
And they have Stybar, who is going to pawn everybody in few years
But i agree now it is only Movistar and OPQS who can afford him.
