I'm going to be in the Vuelta thanks to a wild card and I'm wondering who I'm going to take with me. I have a decent sprinter in Guardini so I could be able to clinch a stage win here and there, but I might be able to get a top 3 with my created rider if I devote my entire team to the task.
Basicly, should I go with a team full of sprinters and punchers who can win stages from a breakaway or should I go with a team full of climbers? |

If I have a stronger team, I usually try to mix it because otherwise half of the stages would be boring 3-4 riders as a sprint train, 4-5 riders for the mountains, 0-2 breakaway riders. But that only makes sense if you have the fitting riders. In the end, you have to decide where your priorities are.
Another point: As you seem to be in Continental Tour, if you want to get promoted, you would get way more points for a nice GC ranking than for one or two stage wins.

My GT squad is usually composed by a GC leader, 3/4 mountain domestiques, 2/3 punchy breakaway riders and a punchy sprinter (the likes of Bole, Sagan, Freire etc). But that's because I dislike sprinters and their goddamned trains.
Basically, it depends on your roster and what do you want.

My current usual GT team would be:
GC Leader
Sprinter (no train - just latch onto someone elses)
punchy breakaway rider
good climber who could target the KOM
3 decent climbers for GC protection and mountain help
2 general domestiques for protection and water carrying detail

My usual GT team for TDF:
2 Leaders
5 Climbers (1 for each leader, 3 for relay and water carrying. One of the climbers might also be a Leadout man if he is good on the flat)
1 Sprinter
1 Leadout man
In the Giro and Vuelta i usual let 2-3 talents get a chance and a pair of TT-specialists along with a leader, sprinter, leadoutman and a few climbers.

I'd be inclined to go for the GC as it will get you more points.
Plus you can also win mountain stages with a GC rider |

Depends on your team. No point taking a sprinter and a train if you have no chance of top 3s/5s. May as well take a team of climbers and go on the offensive all the time! |

Usually i prefer to go all in for my GC guys and guys who can go hunting for a stage win. But I'll also take my sprinter in the team, but without any leadout men - Only one who is dedicated to protect him on the last part of the sprint stages.
I always think it's funny and challengeing to find the perfect wheel in a sprint and to win stages like O. Freire and R. McEwen used to do.
