Back in 2003 (or maybe 2004) I bought a cheap race bike as a fun way to cycle the 15 odd kilometers from home to uni (and back again in the afternoon). That was good fun but then I finished uni and got a job so the bike went in the basement for 4 years. Now I have a job where it will be possible for me to cycle and I want to get the race bike back on the road. Of course it needs a little refurbishment.
The bike has the Shimano Sora 8 speed group and it's pretty much worn down. I was wondering how much do you think it would cost to get a new gear system, cassette, chain and front toothed well (I'm sure thats the incorrect name)?
Another think the bike just has normal pedals but I was thinking it would fun to get click pedals. I am assuming I can just by some pedals and screw into the pedal arm or?
Just made a quick search and found this Sora group: https://www.all4bike.com/shop/shimano-...1416p.html
Imo i think buying a whole new group would be better than buying the parts separatly. If you aren't capable of install the parts on your own, you can get a bike mechanic to do it for you, but that isn't very cheap...
Before doing anything, agree with yourself wheter the best solution for you is to buy a new group, keeping the already existing group, or buy a new bike. Many bike which is already used, can sometimes be cheaper than installing a new group.
About the pedals, it is much better to have click pedals and you'll love it. There's okay cheap pedals on the market, but then you'll also need cycling shoes, but also there you buy that for a good prize.
Just "screw" it...........
Yeah, the click pedals is installed as any other pedal on the market
