The spaniards are out in force in Mallorca for a challenging race in the hills. Alejandro Valverde is already in form, having won the Tour de San Luis, and when you consider his sprint stat, this race may be even more suited to him! Rivaling him from Spain though are the two Sanchezs: Luis Leon and Samuel, aswell as Juan Jose Cobo.
Theres no guarantee of a Spanish winner though! The surprise Tour Meditteraneen winner Cesare di Maggio is here, aswell as the Mont Faron stage winner Jeremy Roy. Nicolas Roche marks his season debut here, while Kolobnev and Weening may also pose a threat.
There are also two flat stages of course, though the first has a slight uphill slant. Double Meditteraneen stage winner Thor Hushovd will be a favourite, perhaps more so than Roman Maksimov, who has the speed, but does not like hills - or even speed bumps. Another recent double stage winning sprinter is also here though - Andre Greipel joining Valverde in taking the flight straight here from Argentina.
19 teams have entered the race - theres only one other C1 race with more teams (the Tour of the Czech Republic).

Well, there goes my chance to complete my first goal of the season ... There is no way Costa is coming out of here with a top 10. What is up with this strong start-list

Bobridge just won a hilly classic, so there is a chance Costa will finish in the Top 10

Didn`t expect such a start list. Hermans and Hesjedal won`t have any chance. Let`s go attacking. |

This is a great way to notice a win Didn't checked the results-page yet... exciting!
Strong starlist here in Mallorca. Can Valverde repeat his San Luis-victory? I will follow! And good luck to all teams!

Well... At least Sanchez can fight for a top 5... I'm just glad that Valverde only has 10 race days 7 in San Luis means he will drop out after stage 3 here, right?
Sanchez has the best dh ability of the top few favorites, so hopefully he can get back on after he is dropped.

That`s my tiny hope with Hesjedal, too.
No problem if these two can downhill attack then. |

One Top 5 here would be a great result for us, considering the strength of the startlist. Hopefully no teams will be interested in bringing back the breakaways.
Valverde should win this quite easily, seing his good form in San Luis.

Dam, the field here is strong.
On the bright side the season is moving very quick, it is hard to keep up. |

I entered here because it's not only necessary that Valverde wins. The rest of you must lose.

As long as Greipel performs good on the first stages, I would say I am happy. Valverde is here, meaning that I have little chance of success in the other parts.

It´s up to Hushovd to get some results here to
And get in some breakaway, maybe Salguiero.
Was I drunk when I picked a season goal as top 5 here?
Probably.. |

All we can really hope for here is a break gets away (Stage 4) with a Vespa rider in there and gets a good gap.
Biggest bonus is Valverde uses five race days and not taking on any of my leaders. |

Pretty tough startlist here. It will be hard to beat the spanish riders, but a top 3 is within reach!
Also hoping for a good performance by Marinangeli. The two first stages suit him quite well.

I hope Roche will do better than VDB did in his season debut, though it will be hard to end on the podium with that strong a start list.
Breaks in the two first days and then it's up to Roche - good luck everyone

*says goodbye to all his friends in a letter*

Damn it, loosing Busche is a huge loss for Roche since he was probably the only guy who could sit with the Irish rider for quite some time on the hilly stages.
Also a very unlucky day for Bianchi, Focus and Red Bull, I can only share my sympathy but what a nicely race by Ziegler, well deserved.

Great stage 1 for us, nobody crashed and Maksimov was actually still around for the finish.
