Tour of Qatar Discussion

Sun? Check.
Wind? Check.
Flat? Check.
TTT? Check.

Right then, lets get this ProTour season underway!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/2012%20Routes/qatar.png

Believe it or not, a lot of sprinters have turned up to this race! Bewley, Castaneda, Roelandts, Swift, Rowe, Vanderbiest, Lo Cicero, Van Stayen, Goss, Vanoverschelde, Mohs, Guerao and Avelino are just some of them. And expect some strong time trialists also. Jack Wolfskin hope to dominate TTTs, but I notice the likes of Dave Zabriskie are here. Lets not forget defending champion William Ford! He will return afterall, as Oz Cycling Project become the 2nd Wildcard to the race, alongside Pokerstars, as a last minute replacement for Domina Vacanze.

Whoever has the fastest team, can sprint fastest, and can dodge the wind, will win this race. Probably.

I hope i can limit the losses in the TTT, and i hope for a stage win although that will be hard.

Thanks again for the opportunity to participate! It came by surprise to me and it's great to see last year's winner William Ford back in Qatar this year and to be part of a ProTour-race earlier than expected Smile

Santander are bored by the flatness of this race.

However we still want Guerao to win it, this increasing our mockery

Hopefully this time my big guns will take relays so we won't repeat last year's fiasco.

Can't wait for the PT racing to start!

Exactly my thoughts. Not a very intereting race in general, but the TTT will make it exciting after all

for me, it´ll be interested to see, if my team will be seen in front like in CT, chasing breakaways Smile

how´s approximate schedule?

I think it depends more on reporter than race profile, if race is interesting or not Wink

My best TTT squad is here with my best sprinter. Hopefully Bewley's starting number equals his finishing position. Smile

Good luck to all!

Anyway, why Domina Vacanze aren't here? No race planner sent from them or they didn't want to take part in this race?

Race planner. No need to hassle Setzel though, much more preferrable to have an extra CT team in a PT race than a team that cant be bothered.

There are no climbs here, Lo Cicero. You just have to raise your fat butt and sprint as fast as you can.

I'd like to offer Nibali a ride at Vespa for the rest of the season. Pfft

I hope Rogers gets a turn on the front for Colombia in the TTT and Castaneda does as well here as he did last year. Duque too, could hopefully do well too - and if the race is decided by splits in the wind, I hope he's the kind of rider to benefit.

You dont need hills to make it interesting, when you have stroooooooong wind. Read last year's Tour of Qatar for a taster.

Some may see this as a leg warmer upper but reading Gustav's interview with Sony Ericsson's team boss Matthais you realise that it is important for any ambitious team to try and master this course. Certainly the four teams I consider to be contenders for the Overall team award have sent strong TTT squads Jack Wolkskin, Vesuvio, Festina and Sony Ericsson themselves.

For the sprints I see the two young guns Swift and Bewley, Swift will well know about Luke Rowe and Matty Goss from last season's Autumn sprinting battles. We also have Van Stayen, Roelandts and Vanderbeist two of the best Protour men behind the absent Boonan and of course the CToured Bennati.

Bewley all the way for the win for me though, this guy looked like a real tough nut last year and I think milka have bought in that Auber charm.

Keeping an eye out for the Columbians, they could do with some good news following that amazing Giro exclusion.

Thing with the TTT, it's only 7 or so kilometeres which I don't think is enough to give everyone a turn on the front. If the wrong team members start things off, then whoever it is will be up against it.

This race was a very good one for Castaneda last year - one of the few he had. Smile

Agreed... I was actually thinking about setting a team with only 5 riders or so but all of them with 76-78 TT... That way I would have no bad riders and should stand a good shot at winning the TTT, but again, if I wouldn't win the TTT then the race would've been wasted.

Interesting to see a few people just cant look past Bewley. A dominant performance would be a bit of a surprise, there are so many top sprinters here. Milka werent the experts of sprint trains last year either!

Also, if you have him as favourite, there cant really be much in common with Auber, who were very much the 'underdogs'!

I just hope for Vesuvio, that Swift can deliver a stage win, and a decent GC placing, with hopefully help from a respectable TTT. The first action will come tomorrow.
