For all who don´t understand it: Coeman (OmegaPharma-Lotto manager) says that Gilberts contract is still valid in 2012 as he has a contract with the firm running the team, the Belgian Cycling Company which will still be the same in 2012. So he can only leave for at least 1,000,000€. Gilberts manager says that´s wrong as the sponsors split up and he can join any team for free.

That's the link to a good interview with Mark Cavendish that was broadcast (live) this morning on 5Live.
There are a number of questions phoned in, and at 30 mins there is a break for Weather and news.
Not sure if it is available from outside the UK.
He announced that he HAS made a decision about next season, that he made that decision on Saturday (30th in Eindhoven), and that he can't/won't tell us what it is yet. |

That pretty much settles it then. Why would he have to wait to say he's continuing with HTC? So its Sky then.

He did say that he's lucky that he's a 'known cyclist'. That means he's not restricted to a national team and it also means he has a 'Value'.
Having a 'Value' means that he'll get paid approximately the same amount, no matter which team he joins - so for him the decision is NOT about the money, but whether he will fit in and enjoy the team. He says if he doesn't enjoy it, then there's no point racing...
He also said there were a lot of offers....

Mark Cavendish makes decision over HTC-Highroad as Team Sky switch stays alive
Tour de France green jersey winner Mark Cavendish, reportedly a target for Team Sky, has decided which team he will ride for next year but insists that could mean staying put.
By Telegraph staff
4:18PM BST 02 Aug 2011
Cavendish became the first British cyclist to win the sprinters' green jersey at the Tour last month, and he has been linked with a move away from HTC-Highroad to Team Sky.
The British team is already home to national team-mates Bradley Wiggins and Geraint Thomas so would be a natural fit for Cavendish in an Olympic year.
But the Manxman said: "I want to go to the best place to help me win and that might me staying where I am now."
He added: "I have decided. I decided on Saturday, I was in a hotel in Eindhoven. You just know. You know when something's right
Cavendish, who is among the favourites to win the World Championship in Copenhagen in September, was free to sign for another team for next season from yesterday.
And his decision could have consequences for his current team-mates.
The future of HTC-Highroad may depend on Cavendish's presence - any sponsor would like a prolific winner in their team - and he has a strong bond with his colleagues in the American squad.

Well, the only reason that Gilbert has more wins than him is that they haven't met in a race... yet

I've heard so many people saying - "Bring Vuelta to Canary Islands" or "There're so many extremely hard climbs in Canary Islands".
In 2013, after 25 years, Canary Islands may again host Vuelta's stages.
Mt Teide and Pico de los Nieves are the possible climbs.

I'd love if they used the Roque de los Muchachos as well:
Anyway, I wouldn't build my hopes up about this. Until I see an official Vuelta profile with a stage in Canarias I won't belive it. And even then, I think they can find a way to screw up and totally miss the chance to create stages so awesome that RCS would have a lot of troubles to match and that ASO couldn't even dream about having them in the Tour.

When I saw Canarias I thought "Roque de los Muchachos". Then I was disappointed.
Anyway, as said above, until (and if) we get an official confirmation, I'm filing this under the same folder as their attempts to finish a stage on the Pico Veleta two years ago: "Nice idea, shame about the reality".

Astarloza makes his return to cycling at the Vuelta a Burgos for Euskatel.
But is highly unlikely he will feature in the Vuelta a Espana.
